Rosamund Pike says becoming her devious 'I Care a Lot' character "was actually quite liberating"

No Comments Entertainment News

Seacia Pavao / Netflix(NEW YORK) — Rosamund Pike says she felt a sense of freedom in her I Care a Lot role as Marla Grayson, a calculating entrepreneur who turns her business as a legal guardian into a successful scheme to cheat seniors out of their life savings.

“I think I’ve played some really wonderful women in the last few years…  sort of soulful, admirable, courageous, morally, like, centered women,” Pike tells ABC Audio. “And so to kind of escape from that and not have the burden of such greatness on my shoulders was actually quite liberating.”

Pike, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her icy portrayal, says getting to “play outside of the constraints of niceness and goodness and morality” was actually quite “fun.”

“I mean, it’s escapism of a different sort,” she explains.

While the actress admits the film does shed light on a horrific aspect of the guardianship industry, Pike still believes viewers will find the humor in her devilish character’s behavior.

“I think people will laugh. I think people [will] laugh very uncomfortably at this film,” she says. “It’s darkly funny. It’s a dark satire. It’s appalling in its humor. But you have to laugh because if you didn’t laugh, it would be too tragic, you know?”

In fact, Pike is banking on the fact that those who loved her in 2014’s Gone Girl — as the cunning Amy Dunne — will come back to support her once again.

“I do like working in this space and I’m hoping that a lot of the same audience who really sort of gravitated towards Gone Girl will find something in this film that they really relish again,” she adds.

I Care a Lot, also starring Eiza González, Peter Dinklage and Dianne Wiest, premieres Friday on Netflix.

'Normal People' star Daisy Edgar-Jones is "so excited" for 'Conversations with Friends'

No Comments Entertainment News

David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The cast was announced Wednesday for Hulu’s Conversations with Friends, an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s debut novel and a follow-up to Hulu’s previous Rooney adaptation, Normal People.

The series, featuring much of the same production crew that worked on Normal People, will star newcomer Alison Oliver as 21-year-old Frances, a college student and writer who gets entangled with an older married couple played by Jemima Kirke and Joe Alwyn. Sasha Lane plays Frances’ best friend. Bobbi.

It’s enough to give Normal People star and recent Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones major FOMO.

“I am so excited to see what they’re going to do with it, because I love that book and I was saying to them, like, I would be happy to come and be a runner, like, I’ll make the tea!” she tells ABC Audio. “I just want to be involved in some way.”

Conversations with Friends may have a lot in common with Normal People behind the scenes, but Edgar-Jones points out it’s a completely different story.

“Yeah, I think they’re going to do something amazing with it, and it’s kind of a different style to Normal People in terms of, like, the story’s a little bit darker and things, and it’s more complex subjects and stuff,” she says. “So I’m really excited to see how they’re going to do it.”

Production will begin later this year in Ireland, with the show scheduled to debut in 2022. Edgar-Jones, meanwhile, is set to star in yet another book adaptation, the Delia Owens bestseller Where the Crawdads Sing.

'Buffy' star Nicholas Brendon explains why he's not ready to speak about Joss Whedon

No Comments Entertainment News

Gilbert Carrasquillo/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — As more Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel alums speak out against the alleged misconduct disgraced director Joss Whedon displayed on set, one voice was noticeably absent —  Nicholas Brendon.

Brendon, who played the affable Xander and was a critical member of the “Scooby Gang,” broke his silence about why he hasn’t publicly spoken out about the controversy.

Taking to Facebook Live recently, the 49-year-old actor revealed that he is about to undergo emergency surgery to repair some residual nerve damage in his back.

“If you don’t mind, I’m going to get some spinal surgery tomorrow and heal and come up with a statement that represents me,” he said while reclined in a hospital bed before reflecting on how social media has changed things for celebrities.

“When things happen like this, with social media and stuff, it’s hard for me — it makes me sick,” said Brendon, who explained why he didn’t jump at the opportunity to speak out. “I don’t owe you a God-damn thing… So stop treating any celebrity like they owe you anything statement-wise. They just don’t!”

The Criminal Minds alum touched upon former co-star Charisma Carpenter’s allegations of misconduct against Whedon, furthering in a separate Facebook Live video, “While some people think that I owe them a statement, I don’t really owe them a statement right now. This is my life, and these are two people that I love very much.”

“Yes, I do love Joss, and I love CC more than most, and so I’m not just going to give you a statement that says ‘my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the victims,'” Brendon explained. “I’m not going to do that. I’m going to think about it.”

However, he did add that he “supports” Carpenter, but maintained that is all he’s willing to say for now.

SNL's Colin Jost was no help planning his wedding to Scarlett Johansson

No Comments Entertainment News

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — Colin Jost is well aware of his strengths and his weaknesses, so when it came to planning his October wedding to Scarlett Johansson, the Saturday Night Live star put her in the driver’s seat.

“I don’t pretend to know much about things or have taste in things. I’m very happy to rely on someone who has a lot better taste and knowledge of things,” Jost tells Entertainment Tonight.  “That’s sort of what I’ve learned in general in my life. I’ve never been like, ‘Oh, should I wear this shirt?’…I never know, so I always would rather someone else tell me.”

Jost says, instead of imagining his dream wedding, he focused on finding his “dream partner.”

Colin, 38, adds that it was a “way bigger decision” to make the 36-year-old Black Widow star his wife than the actual ceremony itself.

“I was much happier about getting [that] right than any of the other,” he explained.

Needless to say, spending their first year of marriage amid the COVID-19 pandemic has tested the strength of their relationship. The union, says Jost, “seems like a good one.”

“If you can make it through this situation, it seems like a very good sign,” he jokes.

Jost and Johansson, who confirmed their engagement in May of 2019, announced the wedding in a post on the Meals on Wheels America Instagram account.

“We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and loved ones, following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC,” a statement on the account read.

Here's why Drew Barrymore hasn't gotten plastic surgery

No Comments Entertainment News

ViacomCBS(LOS ANGELES) — A lot of celebrities are no strangers to a little nip and tuck but that’s not the case for Drew Barrymore.

On a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 45-year-old actress and host revealed why she hasn’t undergone any sort of procedure.

“I’ve never done anything to my face and I would like to try not to,” she said, before adding, “Never say never.”

“The thing that I do care about and I do feel is still relevant to my life is the face,” she continued. “I know myself. I’m a highly addictive person. I do one injection, I’m going to look like Jocelyn Wildenstein by Friday.”

Wildenstein, for the record, is an American socialite known for her extensive cosmetic procedures.

Elaborating on why she made the decision to avoid plastic surgery, Drew shared, “I think because I’m so rebellious that I saw of that pressure and all of those women pressuring themselves to look a certain way and I thought ‘You miserable people.’ I just wanted to never be afraid of what life would do to me.”

“I would love if there was some way that we could let go and give into the ride of life a little bit more,” she added. “We’re gonna age, things are gonna go south and it’s okay. And it’s a part of life.”
