Vince Gill responds to Morgan Wallen’s use of racial slurs: “It’s derogatory, dismissive and hurtful”

No Comments Country Music News

Jason Kempin/Getty ImagesVince Gill was among the country artists weighing in on the genre’s race reckoning during a special CBS feature this week.

The conversation was structured in part as a response to Morgan Wallen’s recent use of racial slurs, including the N-word. Morgan’s music was subsequently removed from many country radio stations, and his record contract was suspended by his label.

“It was just sad,” Vince said, when asked what his reaction was to the incident. “It was just disappointing, because I knew that everybody was gonna massacre country music.”

The singer also pointed out his frustrations at hearing the argument, from many white country fans, that it should have been okay for Morgan to use the N-word, since they hear rap artists using it.

“I go, ‘Have you not been paying attention to the last 400 years? How that word has been used by the white community?’” Vince continued with an exasperated shrug. “It’s derogatory, dismissive and hurtful. It doesn’t have a place.”

Also during the feature, Vince gave an acoustic performance of an original new song that grapples with this issue, called “March On, March On.”  “Four hundred years of history couldn’t be more wrong / A reckoning is coming, march on, march on,” he sings in the chorus.

Other artists participating in the conversation include Maren Morris, Ryan Hurd and Rissi Palmer, who each offered their own perspectives on the state of country music as well as their reaction to the controversy surrounding Morgan Wallen.

Despite the backlash he’s facing, Morgan’s January album release, Dangerous, remains at the top of the Billboard 200 chart for the fifth week straight.

Jordan Davis might be sporting a shocking new look in his upcoming “Almost Maybes” video

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/Image Group LAJordan Davis is set to drop his “Almost Maybes” music video on Friday, and the singer just might unveil a dramatic change to his appearance in the clip.

Ever since rising to fame with his 2017 radio debut, “Singles You Up,” Jordan’s signature feature has been his long, thick beard. In interviews, he’s hinted a time or two that he might be open to shaving the beard, but he’s never pulled the trigger: At least, until now.

Ahead of his “Almost Maybe” music video release at the end of his week, the singer shared a couple of pictures that seem to suggest he’s made a change. While Jordan has his hand over his face in both shots, obscuring the full look, it’s clear that he’s shaved the beard and is instead rocking a light scruff.

“#AlmostMaybes video coming soon…might be showing off a new look,” Jordan wrote alongside the pictures. “Les Geaux.”

Though Jordan’s been rocking the beard for as long as most of his fans have known him, he has previously given them an idea of what he looks like clean-shaven. The music video for his song “Detours,” which came out back in April 2020, includes a montage of pictures from over the course of his relationship with his now-wife, Kristen. Some of those are snapshots of Jordan from his pre-beard days.

The change is pretty dramatic, and Jordan told People at the time that even some members of his own management team didn’t recognize him clean-shaven.

“I sent over the pictures of me with no beard and some people were like, ‘Who is this guy?’” he remembered.

Ashley Judd opens up about near-fatal accident in Congo and how she was saved

No Comments Entertainment News

Mike Coppola/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — (NOTE CONTENT) Actress Ashley Judd claims she nearly died after breaking her leg in four places last week.

The Double Jeopardy star was visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo when she had an accident Talking on Instagram Tuesday, the 52-year-old Judd shared photos of her “grueling” rescue and independently honored those who spent countless hours keeping her safe.

“Friends. Without my Congolese brothers and sisters, my internal bleeding would have likely killed me, and I would have lost my leg,” the Emmy nominee stated. “I wake up weeping in gratitude, deeply moved by each person who contributed something life giving and spirit salving during my grueling 55 hour odyssey.”

Judd named those who located her, set her leg and transported her to safety.

“Dieumerci stretched out his leg and put it under my grossly misshapen left leg to try to keep it still. It was broken in four places and had nerve damage,” she described before turning to a man named Papa Jean, who “calmly assessed my broken leg” and began resetting it.

“How he did that so methodically while I was like an animal is beyond me. He saved me,” she confessed before shouting out the six men who spent three hours gently carrying her out of the forest.

“Didier and Maradona: Didier drove the motorbike [to a doctor,]” continued Judd, saying Maradona sat in the back with her and kept her from passing out.  “Together we did this for 6 hours,” she added.

Judd was injured on February 12 when she was hiking in the Congo to research the bonobos chimpanzee, an endangered species.

She said in an earlier interview that she was taken to South Africa and is resting in an ICU to treat her “massive catastrophic injuries.”
