Beverly Johnson explains why her 'Girlfriends Check In' was "really important" to her during this time

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of OWN(LOS ANGELES) — Supermodel Beverly Johnson is joining her real-life girlfriends on the upcoming episode of OWN’s new quarantine series, Girlfriends Check In.

The new show, which virtually brings together different groups of female celebrity friends to laugh, support, and share gossip with each other, has Beverly joining her three galpals which include Greenleaf star Lynn Whitfield, activist Tina Knowles Lawson and actress Vanessa Bell Calloway. Johnson tells ABC Audio that joining the chat was an easy decision given that it was an opportunity to let her hair down and have fun with her friends.

“Well, Tina Knowles asked me to participate in this show, and — of course, I love Oprah Winfrey — and I know the other young ladies,” she said referring to Whitfield and Calloway. “[But,] it was a chance just to be myself and they were themselves.”

“And so a lot of it, I’m sure, didn’t get aired, because we were being ourselves a little too much,” she laughs. “But it was just a time to relax and have fun… [and] get a little gussied up to go on Zoom.”

While Johnson describes the soon-to-be aired virtual chat as “better than FaceTime, or talking on the telephone, or texting back and forth,” the fashion model admits that the candid conversation also served another purpose.

“It was a time that we really connected, you know, as girlfriends,” she says. “And as we all know, girlfriends are really, really important. And they’re very important to me… They’re my support and they’re my inspiration.”

Beverly Johnson’s episode of Girlfriend’s Check In airs Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET on OWN.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Garner beach date stirs dating rumors

No Comments Entertainment News

Bertrand Rindoff Petroff/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — After reportedly splitting with her boyfriend John Miller after nearly two years of dating, Jennifer Garner spent Wednesday chilling on a Malibu beach with her longtime friend and former Alias co-star Bradley Cooper, according to The New York Post.

A photo of the couple shows a shirtless Cooper sporting a man bun and red swim trunks, while Garner, wearing a sweater and skirt, made herself comfortable in the sand.

Cooper’s three-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk, was reportedly there as well.

A source, however, tells the newspaper that Cooper, 45, and Garner, 48 “are friends and have been forever,” adding that there is “no truth to anything else.”

Oh well, maybe that’ll change now that they’re both single.

Play ball! Amazon rebooting 'A League of Their Own' as a series

No Comments Entertainment News

Abbi Jacobson – ABC/Eric McCandless(LOS ANGELES) — Amazon has announced that a reboot of the beloved 1992 film comedy A League of Their Own will become an hour-long series for the streamer.

Created by Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson and Mozart in the Jungle‘s Will Graham, the “reinterpretation” of the film centers on the wartime version of America’s pastime: the women who made up the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

This version “evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball,” Amazon’s announcement explains. “The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it.”

Jacobson will star in the show, as well as produce.

Jacobson and Graham explain it took three years to get the project going. “We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else,” they say.  “With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life.”

They add, “It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities.”

The 1992 movie grossed more than 132 million dollars at the box office, and spawned a short-lived TV series of the same name in 1993.

'John Wick' gets a fifth chapter

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Alex Scott(LOS ANGELES) — A fifth installment of John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, is in the works.

John Wick fans boosted the most recent go-round, Chapter 3 — Parabellum, to a $326.7 million globally, making a fourth film a no-brainer, but the announcement of a fifth go-round was a surprise.

Deadline reports that Lionsgate confirmed that they hope to film both John Wick 4 and 5 back to back sometime in early 2021.

John Wick 4 currently has a release date set for Memorial Day weekend in 2022, however, a premiere date for John Wick 5 has not been released.

Back in June, stuntman-turned series director Chad Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter, “[A]t some point, when we think Mr. Wick has run his course, I’m sure his demise will be epic, but until then, we’re going to keep doing chapters and just tell the story…”

No Comments Entertainment News

Best Possible Screen Grab/CBS 2020 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved(LOS ANGELES) — It looks like Stephen Colbert and James Corden will be following Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon’s lead and moving their respective CBS late night shows back into the studio, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Both hosts have been taping their shows remotely since the COVID-19 outbreak –Colbert’s Late Show coming from his house, with his family serving as his production crew, and Corden’s Late Late Show originating from his garage, joined virtually by his co-host and band leader Reggie Watts.

However, it’s not clear whether Colbert and Corden will be returning to their respective studios at CBS Studios lot in West Hollywood and The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.

Colbert, who’s currently on vacation, reportedly hinted as much, joking that he “won’t be in the Ed Sullivan Theater,” but “also won’t be sleeping where I work.”

Fallon returned to his digs at 30 Rockefeller Plaza back on July 13, joined by his house band The Roots, and a trimmed-down production crew that all remain socially distanced.  There’s audience and Fallon still conducts his interviews via video chat.
