50 Cent and Michael Rainey Jr. explain why Tyriq can be "redeemed" and "forgiven" in 'Power Book 2: Ghost'

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of Starz(NEW YORK) — Power Book 2: Ghost star Michael Rainey Jr. and executive producer 50 Cent are weighing in on the future of troubled Power character Tyriq now that he’s leading his own Power series.

After viewers took their frustrations out on Rainey Jr. after discovering that his character Tyriq had killed his father Ghost, both Rainey Jr. and 50 Cent are assuring fans that they’ll start to like Tyriq a lot more this series.

“They didn’t appreciate Kanan either,” 50 tells ABC Audio, referring to his Power character. “Ghost killed somebody in the first episode… and they forgave him because they [saw] him internally struggling with things that they… could identify with.”

“I think until they see you love something, you’re just a bad guy,” he continues. “And the Kanan character clearly was that… It was actually the relationship between Kanan and Tyriq that made them begin to like Kanan.”

Rainey Jr. agreed he “could care less” if his character is forgiven by fans, but believes this series “could be a redemption for Tyriq.”

“Because he’s grown up now,” he explains. “He’s not just acting off of anger towards his family. He has to make sure his family is good… To really make decisions for for people, not just himself.”

It’s those “right decisions” that his character will make that Rainey Jr. believes will “definitely.. resonate” and make him relatable to fans.

“Like, ‘OK, Tyriq is not as bad as [he] used to be,'” he says. “He’s growing up…he’s definitely going to be improving himself.”

50 also believes that fans will “start to like” Tyriq because of his new love interest and connection to his mom.

“They’ll forgive him for those things that already happened with his character,” he says.

Power Book 2: Ghost airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on Starz.

Robert Voets/2020 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — Anna Faris is departing Mom after seven seasons.

The news was revealed today that Anna, who played the role of Christy Plunkett — daughter of Bonnie Plunkett, portrayed by Allison Janney — is leaving the CBS show ahead of its eighth season

“The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career,” Faris says in a statement provided by producers.  “I’m so thankful to [showrunner] Chuck [Lorre], the writers, and my amazing cast mates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family,” she concludes.

Co-created by The Big Bang Theory showrunner Chuck Lorre, Mom centers around the mother-daughter duo, both of whom are recovering addicts, following Christy’s journey as a mother of two children and working toward a law degree.

“From the inception of Mom, Anna was the first and only choice for the role of Christy,” says Lorre and CBS in the same statement.  “We are so proud of the stories we have been able to tell during Anna’s seven years with us. We wish Anna all the best, and we thank her for her beautiful portrayal.”

So far there’s no official word on how Faris’ exit will be handled on the show.  Production on Mom‘s eighth season is set to begin on September 14.

The super-suit makes the man…a jerk, says 'The Boys'' Homelander, Antony Starr

No Comments Entertainment News

Jasper Savage/Amazon Prime(NEW YORK) — Today, Amazon Prime unveils the second season of its skewed-view superhero show The Boys. The series centers on an Avengers-like group of superheroes who, for the most part, are anything but heroic.

The leader of The Seven is the super-powered red, white and blue-clad Homelander, and while his public persona projects everything righteous about the good ol’ U S of A, privately, he’s is a murderous, sociopathic mess.

Antony Starr plays the anti-heroic hero, who this season tries to bond with his son, go after the show’s titular superhero hunters, and deal with his own flagging popularity thanks to the arrival of a new member of the team: the mysterious Stormfront.

Starr tells ABC Audio that just getting on his muscled super-suit is enough of a motivation to get into character.

“Yeah, I mean honestly, you just get that suit on, and it makes you look like you’re carrying watermelons under your arms, and my boobs go out. It’s just becomes this ridiculous frame, and then I got the American flag on my back [as a cape].”

He adds with a laugh, “I feel like I should just be walking around like I’m at a Bruce Springsteen concert going, ‘USA! USA! USA!’ So yeah, I feel like the outfit makes me Insta-Idiot. More than any other costume, it just sort of sets you up to be a douche.”

Season 2 of The Boys, which also stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid and Giancarlo Esposito, is now available for streaming.
