'Dancing with the Stars' season 29 recap: Weir makes magic on the ballroom, Jesse Metcalfe sent home

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Eric McCandless(LOS ANGELES) — Dancing with the Stars moonwalked into the 80s Monday night to celebrate the era that brought us Flashdance and Madonna.  Despite a last ditch effort to finally break away from the crowd, actor Jesse Metcalfe was sent home.

With the competition narrowing, Metcalfe put his best foot forward during his tango to “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears For Fears.  While the actor markedly improved from last week, the audience felt he wasn’t progressing as quickly as the other competitors and sent him to the bottom two.

The decision to cut the Desperate Housewives alum’s DWTS journey short was especially difficult for all three judges, who felt the actor was just starting to tap into his potential.  However, when compared to Vernon Davis, who was also in danger of being sent home, the judges felt the Super Bowl champ made better progress.

Many competitors were praying Monday would be their breakout night and that moment finally came for Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, who in Judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s own words, crushed his contemporary to “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

Weir’s fluid and graceful routine, expertly choreographed by his dance partner Britt Stewart, dazzled on the ballroom floor thanks to an impromptu visit to an ice-skating rink before the show.  Stewart succeeded in showing Weir the many similarities the contemporary shares with skating, which translated to absolute magic on the ballroom floor.

Weir earned the highest score of the season so far, a 29 out of 30.

Two other routines of note came from One Day at a Time star Justina Machado and The Real‘s Jeannie Mai, whose risky stunts translated into high praise from the judges.

Machado’s energetic and daring jazz routine to Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” from the movie Flashdance ended with a splash — literally — with the actress paying homage to the film’s most iconic scene.

Meanwhile, the judges raved over Mai’s incorporation of a bathtub into her frisky jazz routine to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” which sealed her place as the season’s most entertaining competitor.

As for the buzziest moment of the night, aside from Machado recreating the Flashdance water scene, was Davis sporting a full head of hair for his tango to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” which resulted in judge Derek Hough remarking that the NFL star looked like the child of Earth, Wind and Fire, Steven Tyler and Lenny Kravitz.

Dancing with the Stars returns next Monday — as will Derek Hough to the ballroom for the first time in years — on October 19, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Here are the current standings:

First Place:
Johnny Weir, Olympic figure skater, with Britt Stewart — 29/30

Chris Harrison can't confirm or deny "crazy rumors" about Clare Crawley's season on 'The Bachelorette'

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/John Fleenor(LOS ANGELES) — After a small break, The Bachelorette is back tonight and with it comes a whirlwind of rumors about what’s in store for fans this season!

For those who have scoured gossip sites for tidbits about the upcoming season have probably heard some wild stories and theories, which is why host Chris Harrison sat down with ABC Audio to clear the air before the big premiere.

“There’s some crazy rumors. I think people have an idea of of what happens this season,” noted Harrison.  “I can assure you they don’t.”

In fact, he says fans need to buckle up because this season is going to be “a wild ride.”

The biggest rumor hanging above The Bachelorette this year is all about Crawley herself and whether or not she even finishes the season.

“What I can confirm is it is Clare’s season. It is 100 percent her season. And it’s all about her journey to find love,” Harrison maintained, but, true to his style, let something slip to build up the suspense.

“What happens after that? Everybody will have to wait and see… it’s explosive,” The longtime show host smirked.

Beyond the rumors, Harrison also elucidated ABC Audio about how the show kept everyone involved safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, such as filming in a “bubble” at a resort in Palm Springs, California.

Despite those added precautions, fans won’t notice that much of a difference from season’s past.  To put it bluntly, Harrison promised that fans will not see Crawley and her suitors making out with masks.

“You could kiss and be in a hot tub and do all those crazy things,” he allowed.

Meaning, this season is not a COVID-version of the show.  “This is The Bachelorette. It’s back,” says Harrison.

The Bachelorette premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

“You are being considered for the amazing opportunity of life,” he says in the promo.

Beetz, Benedict Wong, Bill Skarsgard, Tony Hale, Arianna Ortiz and David Rysdahl are all seen as some of those potential candidates.

However, the group soon learn that will have to undergo a nine day process to see if they are worthy to be in the real world.

Luke James says he had a "slight reservation" about his 'The Chi' character, but saw opportunity for something meaningful

No Comments Entertainment News

Brendan Wixted for CRUSHfanzine(NEW YORK) — Luke James is getting candid about his recent role on The Chi as the boyfriend of Imani, played by transgender actress Jasmine Davis.

James tells ABC Audio that he initially had some concern taking on the role of Trig — the estranged older brother of Jake — but soon realized it was a great opportunity to shine light on an important and authentic story.

“I had a slight reservation, but not totally,” he says. “Because at some point in your life… you have to live for you, and you have to do what makes you happy, regardless of whomever.”

“And this is art,” he continues. “This is something beautiful and brilliant. These stories are needed.”

James says his desire to share those meaningful stories made him “grateful to be a part of it.”

“I love the writing and the intention,” he says, noting that the cast was also “wonderful.” “And so, I had maybe a slight reservation, but not totally. I just looked at it [as an] opportunity to really do things — what I prayed for. To do art that means something that motivates the world.”

James explains that he also wanted a project and role that made people think and “have a conversation.”

“If you can sit there and watch it and have a conversation, then that’s the start,” he says. “We can have a conversation and we can get to a better place. Because at the end of the day, it’s about love, and more than ever in this time we need unity and we need true love.”

“And to still be in a place where we hate somebody for something that isn’t our business,” he continues. “It’s ridiculous… And so you need shows like this to help us see ourselves and help correct, in a positive light.”

Are Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds reuniting for new film?

No Comments Entertainment News

Steve Granitz/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) — Are Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds planning to share the screen again?

The two actors, who starred together in the 2009 rom-com The Proposal, may be reuniting for Paramount Pictures’ action-romance The Lost City of D.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Bullock is attached to star in the film and will also be producing, with Reynolds eyed for a co-starring role.

“The idea that Paramount is willing to return to a genre we haven’t seen in a while, makes us incredibly excited,” Bullock tells EW in a statement. “…We all need some action, escapism and love right now. And if I have to humiliate myself on screen to do it… then so be it!”

The story centers on a romance author, played by Bullock, who learns that the fictional city she’s been writing about may actually exist. It’s set to be directed by sibling filmmakers Adam and Aaron Nee.
