Report: Johnny Depp's home targeted by burglar

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Johnny Depp’s home was the target of an alleged burglary but thanks to a trusty alarm system, neighbors and authorities, the suspect was nabbed.

TMZ reports that law enforcement sources say that a potentially homeless woman broke into the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s Hollywood Hills home over the weekend, triggering the alarm system which alerted the cops.

The woman then fled the scene before officers arrived, according to the outlet, but she didn’t make it very far as she was found nearby. Turns out, it seems this wasn’t the woman’s first break-in and they were able to connect her to another recent burglary.

Depp was not home at the time of the intrusion and it is unclear if anything was taken from his residence. The investigation is ongoing.

Hailee Steinfeld loves "sinking [her] teeth" into 'Dickinson', as actor and producer

No Comments Entertainment News

Apple TV+(NEW YORK) — Today, the first three episodes of the anticipated second season of Peabody Award-winning original comedy Dickinson drop on Apple TV+.

The show takes a “fresh” look at rebellious American poet Emily Dickinson, played by star — and producer — Hailee Steinfeld.

The singer and Oscar-nominated actress tells ABC Audio what it’s like working double-duty on the series, which uses popular music and a modern sensibility to put a new spin on the groundbreaking writer’s life.

“It’s been a ride!” she smiles.

“Every little five minute break I’ve had is literally on phone calls or respond to emails, which, you know, I like, now, it’s cool…”

Hailee laughed when asked about what a larger level of commitment it takes to produce a show she’s also starring in. “It definitely is,” admitting, “I might not have known that in its entirety before I got into it.”

The actress said, “I knew I wanted to obviously be involved as an actor when I read these scripts, it felt so different and so fresh and unique. The idea of being a part of this show in more than one way and in helping it come together…I couldn’t…have thought of a better first project to experience this [producer] role on.”

The second season of the show deals with Emily’s newfound fame as a poet, something her conservative family doesn’t take well.

Getting a second season — and the news a third season was greenlit even before the sophomore season debuted — was freeing, Hailee says. “It’s been a really fun character…for me just to sort of…sink my teeth into.”

She adds, “It’s a blast.”

Returning for the new season are ensemble cast members including Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss and rapper Wiz Khalifa, who returns as “Death.”

'The Ellen Degeneres Show' returns after COVID-19 break, with skeleton crew

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — The Ellen DeGeneres Show will resume production Monday, after pausing its scheduled return to production this week because of the surge in coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County.

The chat show will go back to the studio with a skeleton staff and crew, Warner Bros., the studio that produces it, said in a statement obtained by Variety. The goal is to minimize the number of employees that will be needed to work in person at the show’s offices at any given time.

The studio added that all of the show’s crew members will be paid during the modified production schedule.

Ellen’s show was one of many that paused over the post-holiday surge of cases in the county; health officials there implored studios to temporarily halt shooting if possible, even though they were technically exempt from strict lockdown orders in Los Angeles.

As of this week, California has recorded more than 2.5 million people who tested positive for coronavirus and some 28,045 deaths.

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Elon Musk is officially the richest man in the world, CNBC reported on Thursday.

The 49-year-old Tesla CEO, who has a net worth of over $185 billion, moved ahead of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos to grab the title.  Bezos, the richest person since 2017, is currently worth about $184 billion.

Musk reportedly kicked 2020 with a net worth of about $27 billion and was barely in the top 50 richest people, according to the cable news channel.  However, Tesla’s rocketing share price — which has grown more than nine times over the past year — along with his generous pay package, have added more than $150 billion to his net worth.

Tesla’s shares closed Thursday at $816.04, up nearly 8 percent.  The company’s market value has grown to more than $760 billion.

Ian McKellen applauds his former 'X-Men' co-star Elliot Page's coming out as transgender

Rich Polk/Getty Images for IMDb(NEW YORK) — When actor Elliot Page came out as transgender in November, many fans, famous and otherwise, spoke up to applaud them.

One of those is Page’s former X-Men: The Last Stand‘s co-star Ian McKellan. The acclaimed actor, who is also out and proud, tells the UK magazine Attitude that he’s “so happy” for Elliot’s decision.

The Lord of the Rings and X-Men series star says, “Everything gets better [after coming out],” explaining those who do often see a boost of confidence. “So you get better in terms of relationships, friends of all sorts, family, if you’re lucky. And in my case, I think in every case, your acting is bound to change and improve.”

McKellen recalled difficulty he had shooting a scene with Page, before they found this confidence. “I remember Elliot Page [was sitting] as close as we are now. And I had to speak when they’d finished, and I couldn’t hear what they were saying,” McKellen said of Page, who played mutant heroine Kitty Pryde.

“So, I said, ‘Look, if you can’t speak up, would you mind when you’re finished speaking, just dropping your hand so I know when you’ve finished speaking?’ And then they came out [as gay] years later and suddenly you couldn’t stop them talking. You heard everything.”

He says, “And now… they’re Elliot. And I’m so happy for Elliot. And so disappointed in myself that I didn’t detect what their difficulty was with communicating.”

Page took to Instagram last month to thank everyone for the support of their announcement. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self,” Page wrote in part. “I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community.”
