Rockin' around the "Isaiah tree": Carrie Underwood's decorations have "a lot of heart"

No Comments Country Music News

Joseph LlanesCarrie Underwood‘s a superstar with a lush new holiday album titled My Gift and an elaborate HBO Max special to match.

But if you imagine she has a glamorous department-store-worthy Christmas tree at home too, you’re wrong. It turns out hers is probably a lot like yours, especially if you have two little boys.

“Our decorations started out being very silver and gold,” she explains, “simple, but not super colorful. And then Isaiah starts bringing home the things that they make at school, and that all went out the window in the best way.”

The prolific nearly-six-year-old is upstaging his brother Jake, who’ll soon be two.

“We have a ton of pictures of Isaiah on the tree,” Carrie continues. “It’s basically the Isaiah tree with like two pictures of Jake thrown in there. I just ordered some new ornaments off of one of the picture apps, so Jake can actually get on the tree as well.”

It’s exactly the kind of tree the Oklahoma native loves.

“We had the same decorations every year, but there was something so nice about the familiar, just having that comfort…” she recalls. “By the time I was in my teens, they were gross-looking, but I did not want any new ones.”

“Any time mom would ever suggest getting new ornaments… I was like, ‘No! I love that 1980 ornament that one of your students… that you probably don’t even remember who it was brought you,'” Carrie admits.

It’s a Yuletide tradition she plans to continue with her boys.

“I want them to see their pictures from when they were little or that thing they made in kindergarten hanging on the tree. It won’t be Pinterest-worthy, but it’s definitely got a lot of heart,” she adds.

Luke Bryan taps Tim Tebow for day one of Pranksmas

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/Stewart Cook The Christmas season just got a whole lot sillier in Luke Bryan‘s household with the arrival of Pranksmas

The annual tradition sees Luke and his wife Caroline pranking each other, with day one of 2020 Pranksmas involving Tim Tebow

During a fundraiser last year for the couple’s charity auction for the Brett Boyer Foundation, Caroline won Tim’s Heisman Trophy for six months.

To kick off Pranksmas this year, Tim shares that he and Luke teamed up to convince Caroline that the Heisman got damaged during travel and arrived at their home in pieces, sending her into a panic.

In the video, Luke can be seen telling his wife that he got a text from the NFL star saying that the Heisman had been shipped to their house days prior and he wanted to come see it. The country singer then grabs a box from outside, pulling out a shattered glass case that Caroline believes is housing the trophy.

“Y’all, this is not funny, I’m shaking. This is not okay,” she says.

But before she can react any further, she looks in the case to see a decoy trophy inside, just as Tim walks in with the real Heisman in hand, the room bursting into laughter.

“Luke convinced me that Tim Tebow’s Heisman was trashed and it was pretty much my fault! I think my blood pressure went to an all time high!!’ Caroline shares alongside the video. “I still reign king of pranks in our house,” Luke adds

Kelly Clarkson reveals Garth Brooks-inspired lyrics of song about her divorce

No Comments Country Music News

Weiss Eubanks/NBCUniversalKelly Clarkson is putting the emotions surrounding her divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock into song — with some inspiration from country music legend Garth Brooks.

When Garth appeared on her talk show recently, Kelly told him that despite all the advice she’s received about how to handle her divorce, it was one of Garth’s signature songs that really helped her understand what she was going through.

“There’s been a lot of books and people always give you stuff to help,” she said. “There’s so much shame and guilt, and everybody sends you stuff, and I was just kind of working through it and I couldn’t quite nail down the feeling.”

“You don’t want to crap on [the marriage] — you don’t want to say that didn’t count or matter, but you don’t know what to put in it because it didn’t work out how you wanted,” she added.

Kelly said it wasn’t until Garth’s 1989 hit “The Dance” came up on her playlist that she said to herself, ” ‘No, that’s the thing. That’s it.'”

The song is about being glad that you experienced something, even if it ended painfully.  The lyrics say,”I’m glad I didn’t know/the way it all would end/the way it all would go/our lives are better left to chance/I would have missed the pain/but I’d have had to miss the dance.”

“All of the books were helpful, but it’s so funny, I guess because I’m a musician…I was listening to ‘The Dance’… and I got the point,” she said.

As a result, Kelly said, she’s written her own “therapeutic” song, which will be on her next album, and then sang a bit of it.  The lyrics include the line, “Even though my heart is broken/It was worth the dance anyway.”

No Comments Country Music News

Scott StemScotty McCreery is sharing the latest honor for his hit song “Five More Minutes” with the Grand Ole Opry.

During his appearance on the Opry on Saturday, Scotty presented representatives from the venue with a plaque commemorating double platinum certification for the song by the RIAA.

Scotty debuted “Five More Minutes” at the Opry in June 2016 and credits the institution for releasing the video of his performance that generated the initial buzz that eventually led the song to become his first #1 single.

“The Opry played a major role in the success of that song, and I will always be thankful to them for that,” Scotty praises.

The American Idol winner dedicated his performance of “Five More Minutes” on Saturday night to Charley Pride, who passed away from complications due to COVID-19 the same day. Coincidentally, Charley was also performing on the Opry the night Scotty debuted “Five More Minutes.”

“Charley was always kind to me,” Scotty says. “Whenever we saw each other, we’d talk baseball, music, and more, and he treated me like he had known me forever. Country Music lost a giant this weekend.”

“Five More Minutes” is the lead single off Scotty’s 2018 album, Seasons Change.
