DC teases casts of 'The Suicide Squad', 'The Batman', and more in preview of DC Fandome

No Comments Entertainment News

© 2018 WARNER BROS. ENTERTAINMENT INC.(LOS ANGELES) — While the box office track record of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics universe has been uneven at best, a brand-new tease of its 24-hour virtual convention called DC Fandome is generating a lot of buzz.

The tease was introduced in a tweet from Matt Reeves, the director of the upcoming The Batman, and he promised to share details about the upcoming movie.

The taste of the August 22 event is nothing more of a scroll of names, but they include dozens of big ones — including the casts of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 including Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, cast members from upcoming sequels to Aquaman and Shazam!, Dwayne Johnson, who stars in the upcoming spin-off Black Adam, and more.

Unlike San Diego Comic-Con and other like events, fans will have the best seat in the house for all the DC Fandome action, which likely will include the first look at dozens of small- and big-screen projects.

Beverly Johnson explains why her 'Girlfriends Check In' was "really important" to her during this time

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of OWN(LOS ANGELES) — Supermodel Beverly Johnson is joining her real-life girlfriends on the upcoming episode of OWN’s new quarantine series, Girlfriends Check In.

The new show, which virtually brings together different groups of female celebrity friends to laugh, support, and share gossip with each other, has Beverly joining her three galpals which include Greenleaf star Lynn Whitfield, activist Tina Knowles Lawson and actress Vanessa Bell Calloway. Johnson tells ABC Audio that joining the chat was an easy decision given that it was an opportunity to let her hair down and have fun with her friends.

“Well, Tina Knowles asked me to participate in this show, and — of course, I love Oprah Winfrey — and I know the other young ladies,” she said referring to Whitfield and Calloway. “[But,] it was a chance just to be myself and they were themselves.”

“And so a lot of it, I’m sure, didn’t get aired, because we were being ourselves a little too much,” she laughs. “But it was just a time to relax and have fun… [and] get a little gussied up to go on Zoom.”

While Johnson describes the soon-to-be aired virtual chat as “better than FaceTime, or talking on the telephone, or texting back and forth,” the fashion model admits that the candid conversation also served another purpose.

“It was a time that we really connected, you know, as girlfriends,” she says. “And as we all know, girlfriends are really, really important. And they’re very important to me… They’re my support and they’re my inspiration.”

Beverly Johnson’s episode of Girlfriend’s Check In airs Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET on OWN.

Father, son suspects in Ahmaud Arbery killing want bond set, 2 charges dropped

Glynn County Sheriff’s OfficeBy EMILY SHAPIRO, ABC News

(COBB COUNTY, Ga.) — The white father and son accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, who was Black and was jogging down a Georgia street, are looking to have bond set and two charges dropped, according to new court documents.

Attorneys for the son, Travis McMichael, 34, called him an “excellent candidate for low bond.”

He was never charged with a crime until this case, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Travis McMichael has a 3-year-old son who lived with him every other week until his arrest, the documents said.

“Travis is an extremely devoted father who dotes” on his son, the defense attorneys wrote.

Travis McMichael has lived all of his life in the Brunswick, Georgia, area and was living with his parents at the time of his arrest, the documents said.

His attorneys said he isn’t a flight risk because he doesn’t have a passport “and most importantly, his family, including his parents and three-year-old son are here in Georgia,” the documents said.

Travis McMichael’s father and fellow defendant, former police officer Gregory McMichael, also “meets the conditions for pretrial release on reasonable bond,” his attorneys said in documents filed Thursday.

Gregory McMichael’s attorneys asked the court to set a hearing within 20 days.

Gregory and Travis McMichael were arrested in May and face charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment

A third suspect, neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan, faces the same charges as the McMichaels. Bryan’s bail was denied last month.

All three have pleaded not guilty.

Arbery was on a jog in Brunswick when he was shot and killed on Feb. 23. Prosecutors claim that 25-year-old Arbery tried to run for his life before he was struck by a car, gunned down and then called a racial slur by one of the suspects.

The three arrested told police they thought Arbery was a suspect in a series of break-ins. They were charged after video showing the deadly struggle appeared online.

The McMichaels and Bryan also want the charges of malice murder and criminal attempt to commit a felony dropped.

The malice murder count “charges two crimes in one count, making it duplicitous,” the McMichaels’ attorneys claimed. “It does so by trading on vague and uncertain allegation regarding ‘unlawfully chasing’ in pickup trucks, which inserts an unspecified separate crime from malice murder, namely, ‘unlawfully chasing [Ahmaud Arbery] through the public roadways.'”

The McMichael’s attorneys argued that the criminal attempt to commit a felony count is also duplicitous because the count “alleges both a completed crime — ‘unlawfully chase Ahmaud Arbery in pickup trucks’ and an attempted crime ‘attempt to confine and detain Ahmaud Arbery without legal authority on Burford Road using Ford F150 pickup truck and Chevy Silverado pickup truck.'”

Bryan’s attorney filed a motion Thursday looking to adopt the claims made by the McMichael’s attorneys to also get those two charges dropped.

ABC News has reached out to the Cobb County District Attorney’s office for comment.

Kane Brown and Nelly get “Cool Again” in tropical beach music video

No Comments Country Music News

Matthew BerinatoKane Brown invites rapper Nelly on a tropical beach vacation for his remixed “Cool Again,” which Kane originally released as a single back in April.

In the new version of the song, Nelly layers a breezy new verse onto the track, adding extra fun-loving flavor to a song that was already a summertime anthem.

“Cool again / I really wish that I was kickin’ back with you again / At top the penthouse, somewhere checkin’ out the view again / ‘Cause every time we do it, it’s like new again / It feels like new again,” Nelly sings in his portion of the song.

The music video amps up the summery vibes even further. The clip begins with Kane hanging out solo on a tropical island, kicking back and enjoying a drink or two as he soaks up the sun. As the song continues, Kane holds his binoculars up to the ocean to reveal Nelly pulling up on a jetski, just in time for his verse.

“Cool Again” isn’t the only out-of-genre collaboration that Kane scored this spring. His recent single “Be Like That” is a joint effort with pop and R&B star Khalid and rapper Swae Lee.

Kane is set to drop a new EP later this month.
