South slammed by second dangerous storm: Latest forecast

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBy MAX GOLEMBO and EMILY SHAPIRO, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — The South, still digging out from snow and ice that brought the region to a standstill this week, is getting slammed by a second winter storm on Wednesday.

This new storm already brought up to 9 inches of snow to Amarillo, Texas, and up to 6 inches of snow near Oklahoma City.

Freezing rain is falling in both Austin and San Antonio, Texas, where everything is covered in a layer of ice.

Later in the day, the ice and snow will move into Louisiana, Mississippi, northern Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Little Rock, Arkansas, along with Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, could see 6 inches of snow.

Wednesday evening, severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama.

The winter weather has left over 2.9 million in Texas without power on Wednesday. Outages also extend to Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana, Virginia, Mississippi and Ohio.

At least 22 states have delayed or canceled some vaccinations due to weather.

Houston’s COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, officials said. Houston schools will also be closed Wednesday and Thursday, with no virtual or in-person instruction.

President Joe Biden had a phone call with several governors of the states affected by the weather, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, the White House said Tuesday evening.

Biden said the administration was “prepared to assist and stands ready to respond to requests for Federal assistance from the governors and will deploy any additional Federal emergency resources available to assist the residents of their states in getting through this historic storm.”

Thursday morning, the storm moves to the East Coast.

Heavy snow will begin in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City Thursday morning and continue into the afternoon.

An icy mix with freezing rain and sleet is expected from Richmond, Virginia, to Raleigh, North Carolina.

Philadelphia and New York could see 5 to 7 inches of snow. D.C. and Boston are expected to get 3 to 6 inches

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — Sharp viewers of Kristin Wiig’s movie Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, which premiered on Friday, may have noticed that the actress subtly revealed the names of her Avi Rothman’s twins, born last year.

Kristen and her co-star Annie Mumolo thanked their friends and family in a “special thanks” section, and the Wonder Woman 1984 star’s list included Rothman’s name on the list, as well as “Luna & Shiloh.”

Wiig, 47, and Rothman, 48, got engaged in August 2019 after three of dating.  The SNL vet let slip earlier this month on The Howard Stern Show that she and the actor had tied the knot

The couple welcomed Luna and Shiloh via surrogate in January 2020.

Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, which also stars 50 Shades of Grey‘s Jamie Dornan, debuted in limited theaters and On Demand this past Friday.

(MELBOURNE, Australia) — Rafael Nadal’s chance at setting the record for the most men’s major titles will have to wait until the next Grand Slam tournament.

The 34-year-old Spanish tennis player, ranked No. 2 in the world, was defeated by fifth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open quarterfinals Wednesday. Tsitsipas upset Nadal in five sets, 3-6, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-5.

Nadal was on his quest to break the record for the most men’s major titles with 21. He is currently tied at 20 with Roger Federer, who withdrew from the tournament at Melbourne Park because he was recovering from knee surgery.

Tsitsipas will now go on to face off against fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Medvedev also advanced to the next round of the tournament Wednesday after his three-set win over Andrey Rublev, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

Cole Swindell comes clean about the pros and cons of a "Single Saturday Night"

No Comments Country Music News

Robby KleinIn his latest hit, Cole Swindell may be longing for his last “Single Saturday Night,” but truthfully, the bachelor admits flying solo can be fun.

“I can tell you, I’ve had a lot of experience on single Saturday nights,” he smiles. “They’re not all bad, no.”

“Do I really want ’em to end?” Cole ponders. “I’m kind of on the fence on that one. You know, before corona[virus], no. Now the virus is [here], I might need to settle down. I don’t know.”

Cole’s female admirers needn’t worry, though. Upon further consideration, he shows his romantic side and admits he’s looking forward to finding a longtime love.

“Hopefully someday,” he reflects. “I mean, that’s the thing about this song, that, you know, even though I hadn’t had my last single Saturday night, but like a lot of other people out there, hopefully it’s someday soon.”

“Single Saturday Night” is the follow-up to Cole’s chart-topping “Love You Too Late,” and is likely the first taste of his upcoming fourth album, the follow-up to 2018’s All of It.
