When it comes to his top ten hit, “Lady,”Brett Young admits he was pulling a bit of double-duty, playing both doting father to his daughter Presley and adoring husband to his wife Taylor.
“We didn’t do it on purpose this way,” the California native explains, “but I knew once the song was written that I was gonna get credit for this song in two different stages.”
“I knew that I was gonna immediately get credit from my wife for a love song,” he continues. “And then years down the road, when my daughter was old enough to understand, I’d get credit for that one, too.”
So how did Taylor respond to Brett’s emotional lyrics like “Look at her, baby girl, and you’ll learn to be a lady?”
“I got a text back with all the emojis of her bawling her eyes out,” Brett reveals. “You know, you never really wanna make a woman cry, but in a situation like that, I think it’s okay.”
There are likely many more happy tears on the way for Brett and Taylor, as they’re expecting their second child this summer.
Pimentel/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) — iCarlystar Jennette McCurdy confirmed she will not be a part of the beloved Nickelodeon’s show reboot. In fact, the 28-year-old actress furthered that she will never return to acting.
Speaking recently with Anna Faris on her podcast Empty Inside, McCurdy said she was “done” with acting.
“I quit a few years ago because I initially didn’t want to do it. My mom put me in it when I was six,” she said, referencing her late mother Debra McCurdy, who died in 2013. “By sort of age, I guess 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family.”
Admitting that acting has “always” been difficult for her because of her anxiety, McCurdy furthered, “Once I started to get the nerves under control was when I started to actually get some traction, but I ultimately quit after my mom passed away.”
“With her death kind of died a lot of her ideas for my life,” said McCurdy before referencing her last stint, a one-woman-show titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died.”
“I wrote this one-woman show, and I performed that, and I really did not want to because of the nerves… Because of feeling like I don’t want to f***ing act anymore,” she explained. “I’m done.”
When reflecting on her successful career with Nickelodeon and the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat that also starred Ariana Grande, McCurdy confessed, “I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past. I resent my career in a lot of ways.”
“I feel so unfulfilled by the roles,” she added, calling her past acting gigs “cheesy” and “embarrassing.”
“It was embarrassing. And I imagine there’s a very different experience to be had with acting if you’re proud of your roles, and if you feel fulfilled by them,” she confessed.
(AUSTIN, Texas) — Gov. Greg Abbott ended Texas’ statewide mask mandate and announced an executive order to allow all businesses to reopen at full capacity.
“It is now time to open Texas 100%,” Abbott said at a news conference Tuesday.
“COVID has not suddenly disappeared,” he added. “But it is clear from the recoveries, from the vaccinations, from the reduced hospitalizations, and from the safe practices that Texas are using, that state mandates are no longer needed.”
Abbott’s executive order is effective March 10, overriding a previous executive order issued in October. The new order mandates that if hospitalization rates exceed 15% hospital bed capacity for seven days, county judges may use mitigation strategies in their jurisdiction, according to Abbott.
The state’s mask mandate had been in effect since July.
Abbott spent the last week teasing the announcement during press conferences and on Twitter, hinting at “exciting news.”
Health experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, have cautioned against states reopening too quickly. At a White House briefing on Friday, Fauci warned against easing restrictions until the U.S. baseline average of new infections is lower.
“We have to carefully look at what happens over the next week or so with those numbers, before you start making the understandable need to relax on certain restrictions,” Fauci said. “Watch it closely, and be prepared to react according to what actually happens.”
White House senior COVID-19 adviser Andy Slavitt told CNN Tuesday night he hopes Abbott will rethink lifting restrictions, especially the mask mandate, though he stopped short of suggesting President Joe Biden should call the governor to ask him to change course.
“We think it’s a mistake to lift these mandate too early. Masks are saving a lot of lives,” he said. “The president has been clear about the fact that in the first 100 days of this administration, we could save 50,000 lives if we stick to this. I’m hoping that the businesses, and the community and people in Texas, the mayors, the county, will rethink this. I hope the governor rethinks this. It’s only a small piece of cloth that’s needed.”
As of Tuesday, Texas had reported 2.6 million infections and 43,918 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
During the Tuesday press conference, Abbott touted the state’s positivity rate as being “under 9%,” still nearly double the 5% threshold recommended by the World Health Organization.
In Texas, 6.8% of the population has received both doses of the vaccine, slightly lower than the national average of 7.9%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
