Not even Michelle Obama can make Jimmy Kimmel's daughter eat her vegetables

No Comments Entertainment News

Disney Junior/Fred Watkins(LOS ANGELES) — It was a battle of wills on Tuesday when former first lady Michelle Obama squared off against Jimmy Kimmel’s six-year-old daughter, Jane, in an attempt to get the picky eater to try some vegetables.

Obama tried — and failed — to persuade Jane to diversify her diet on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“So Jane, why don’t you like vegetables?,” the Waffles + Mochi creator started off as the child and her nervous dad sat at the kitchen table.

The six-year-old responded, “Because I don’t really like to try new things.”

Obama, who made healthy eating in schools a priority during her husband Barack Obama’s tenure in the White House, tried to reason with Jane by revealing a little-known secret about herself.

“Do you know… the only thing I’d like to eat for breakfast every morning until I was 19?  Peanut butter and jelly,” the former first lady deadpanned.

The story interested the picky eater, but Michelle quickly lost her when redirecting attention back to veggies.

“Here’s what I learned. If you try something new — just try it —  that you open up your taste buds and then you’ll like a whole bunch of new things,” coached the Becoming author as Kimmel whipped out a plate of carrots.

Of course, Jane immediately grimaced as Michelle encouraged her to take a small bite.

“No way, I can’t,” the little one declared despite both Kimmel and Obama’s best tactics, and she further fell into her seat when she stared down a plate of green beans.

Jane even rebuked the former first lady’s attempt to play the “small bite game” with her.

Hilariously enough, her little brother Billy saved the segment by proving that he loves eating carrots — leading Obama to declare the experiment “an epic fail” and “a complete set up.”

'The Talk' extends hiatus, Sharon Osbourne accused of racist behavior

No Comments Entertainment News

Sonja Flemming/CBS via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — The Talk will remain on hiatus for another week after show co-host Sharon Osbourne found herself in hot water for defending Piers Morgan, whose comments about Meghan Markle have been deemed racist.

Osbourne ignited an intense debate with Sheryl Underwood about racism versus freedom of speech, which didn’t sit well with fans of the show.

Following the explosive episode last week, CBS told ABC Audio that the show will remain on hiatus until Wednesday, March 17.

However, in light of new accusations against Osbourne, CBS said the show will stay dark until next Tuesday, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re also very mindful of the important concerns expressed and discussions taking place regarding events on The Talk.  This includes a process where all voices are heard, claims are investigated and appropriate action is taken where necessary.”

Several former Talk cast members have taken to social media to speak out against Osbourne’s previous behavior, claiming she created a “toxic” work environment.

Holly Robinson Peete, an original host of the show, retweeted a 2011 video where the British personality told fellow co-host Leah Remini on air that she was “ghetto” because of the way she spoke.

Remini later joined journalist Yashar Ali on Substack and, along with 10 other The Talk sources, levied more allegations of racist, hateful behavior against Osbourne, saying she has been “getting away with” it for years.

Among the damning claims is a report that Osbourne used homophobic language against executive producer Sara Gilbert, who is a lesbian, and referred to then-co-host Julie Chen as “slanty eyes” and “wonton.”

The report also revisited past bigoted statements from Osbourne, such as a 2011 remark against Justin Bieber during his rebellious phase where she criticized, “I think he doesn’t realize he’s white and not Black.”

Osbourne and her team denies the accusations.

Getty Images/Getty Images for Easterseals(LOS ANGELES) — Former Cruel Intentions star Selma Blair has been public with her battle with multiple sclerosis since she revealed her diagnosis in 2018, and now her experience of living with the autoimmune disease is the subject of a new documentary called Introducing, Selma Blair.

The star, who has been open about her trails and tribulations with her more than 2.4 million-follower strong Instagram feed, is taking her journey to the SXSW Film Festival, where the doc will debut.

“Selma says in the beginning of the film, ‘Now I just want to be a better person,'” director Rachel Fleit tells Deadline. “The way that she is a better person is really by being of service to the world, by sharing what she’s going through with specificity and honesty.”

The filmmaker reveals she bonded with Blair immediately over a Zoom call, during which she confessed to the actress that she has lived with an autoimmune disease of her own, alopecia universalis.

“Selma was like, ‘You’re bald and I have MS! And so, what are we going to do about it?’ We just sort of had this instantaneous bond…I can’t explain it.”

Fleit tells the trade, “The thing that I learned from her, you know we have to embrace ourselves…We’ve got…one life in this body and whether or not you have an autoimmune disorder or disease or not, we must embrace ourselves….She shows us what it means to just be grateful for what we have.”

The documentary will run at the festival, and later on the streaming service Discovery+.

Stanley Bielecki Movie Collection/Getty Images(PHILLIPINES) — Yaphet Kotto, who played everything from a deep space miner in the seminal sci-film Alien to a dogged police lieutenant on TV’s Homicide: Life on the Street, has died. He was 81.

The actor, who also played the James Bond villain Mr. Big in Live and Let Die, among many roles over his three decade-long career, reportedly died Monday night in the Philippines, according to a Facebook post from his “saddened and shocked” wife of 24 years, Sinahon Thessa.

“You played a villain on some of your movies but for me you’re a real hero and to a lot of people also,” Thessa wrote. “A good man, a good father, a good husband and a decent human being, very rare to find. One of the best actor [sic] in Hollywood a Legend.”

Kotto was memorialized by fans online, including filmmaker Ava Duvernay, who tweeted, “My Mom’s favorite. He’s one of those actors who deserved more than the parts he got. But he took those parts and made them wonderful all the same. A star. Rest well, sir.”

Kotto, also known for his distinctive voice, recently reprised his Alien character Parker in the video game Alien: Isolation in 2020, and according to his wife had other projects on the horizon, including a book.
