Comedy Central sticking with '90s vibe with 'Ren & Stimpy' reboot

No Comments Entertainment News

Nickelodeon(NEW YORK) — Everything old is new again.  Weeks after announcing that Beavis & Butt-Head are getting the reboot treatment on Comedy Central the network has announced it’s bringing back The Ren & Stimpy Show.

The Emmy-nominated series that debuted on Nickelodeon in 1991 quickly found an adult audience, thanks to its rapid-fire humor and groundbreaking animated style. Its five seasons introduced fans to bizarre characters like Muddy MudskipperHorsePowdered Toast Man and, of course, every kid’s favorite toy, Log.  It’s style strongly influenced subsequent shows, including Beavis & Butt-Head and SpongeBob SquarePants.

The new version is clearly targeting that adult audience of a certain age.  “Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including South ParkBeavis and Butt-Head and Clone High as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP [intellectual property] for new generations,” according to Chris McCarthy, president of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group.

The network also recently announced that Tracee Ellis-Ross would voice the lead character in another animated series, Jodie, a spin-off of the ’90s MTV series Daria, which itself was a spin-off of Beavis & Butthead.

Photo: CW(LOS ANGELES) — Masked heroes are a staple in the comic world, and the CW Network has made a clever series of posters showing its super-people wearing surgical masks to promote the importance of wearing them.

The network, home to the so-called “Arrowverse” of DC superhero shows, has released a series of public service announcement-like posters, each showing a hero — The Flash, Supergirl, Superman, Stargirl, Black Lightning, White Canary, and Beebo — wearing the blue surgical face coverings that have become ubiquitous in the age of COVID-19.

Each poster, which Deadline.com’s gathered in one place, features the slogan “Real Heroes Wear Masks.”

'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' music booker fired over allegations of sexual misconduct

©2015 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved(NEW YORK) — The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s music booker Giovanni Cianci, has been fired after a woman accused him of sexual misconduct in a 2010 incident, according to Variety.

Cianci’s exit comes on the heels of an Instagram post from musician Paige Stark, who alleges Giovani, while working at Lookout Management, where he was employed from 2002 through 2014, “harassed and attempted to assault” her at the CMJ Music Festival in 2010.

“Immediately after this event he would not leave me alone,” recalls Stark. “He followed me and my band mate to a nearby bar and kept touching me and being in my personal space.”

“I told several friends and my boyfriend at the time but was too scared to come forward publicly,” she continues. “I blamed myself despite the fact that I did nothing to warrant Gio’s advances or aggression.”

Stark adds that in 2017 she emailed Cianci’s former boss at Lookout, and included a screen shot of the email in her Instagram post, but got no response.

Shortly after the Instagram post, lawyers from ViacomCBS reached out to Stark directly for her account, a source tells Variety, insisting that the company takes such matters very seriously.

Cianci had been a music producer on The Late Show since 2017.
