In op-ed, Jerry Seinfeld fires back at comedy club owner who called New York City "dead"

No Comments Entertainment News

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Jerry Seinfeld, whose eponymous sitcom dealt in large part with the minutia of life in his adoptive home of New York City, has written a New York Times op-ed in response to a comedy club owner who recently declared the city “dead forever.”

James Altucher, owner of the venue Stand Up New York, wrote a piece for The New York Post, published last week, in which he detailed the very real flight from the city amid skyrocketing crime rates, remote work opportunities, and the loss of the city’s cultural hubs like Broadway because of COVID-19. Altucher himself moved out of the city recently.

But Seinfeld wasn’t having it. “[T]his is one of the toughest times we’ve had in quite a while,” the Long Island, New York native admitted in his published response. “But one thing I know for sure: The last thing we need in the thick of so many challenges is some putz on LinkedIn wailing and whimpering, ‘Everyone’s gone! I want 2019 back!’

Jerry said of Altucher’s list of things about that city he claims are now gone, “Wipe your tears, wipe your butt and pull it together.”

Seinfeld continued, “You found a place in Florida? Fine. We know the sharp focus and restless, resilient creative spirit that Florida is all about. You think Rome is going away too? London? Tokyo? The East Village? They’re not. They change. They mutate. They re-form. Because greatness is rare. And the true greatness that is New York City is beyond rare.”

“This stupid virus will give up eventually. The same way you have,” Jerry declares.  “We’re going to keep going with New York City if that’s all right with you. And it will sure as hell be back.”

PG/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images(LOS ANGELES) — Legendary talk show host Larry King revealed on Saturday that two of his five children, Andy and Chaia King, have died within weeks of each other.

King, 86, shared the news on Instagram, along with a series of photos of Andy and Chaia.

“It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King,” he wrote. “Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.”

Andy, 65, “passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 28th,” he explained, while Chaia “passed on August 20th, only a short time after having been diagnosed with lung cancer.”

“Losing them feels so out of order,” wrote King. “No parent should have to bury a child. My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes. In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.”

King, who has been married eight times to seven women, shared Andy and Chaia with former Playboy bunny Alene Akins, who died in 2017.

King also has a son, Larry, 58, with Annette Kaye, and sons Chance, 21, and Cannon, 20, with actress Shawn King, whom he divorced last year after 22 years of marriage.

Rose McGowan accuses Alyssa Milano of making 'Charmed' set a "toxic" environment

JOHANNES EISELE/AFP via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — (NOTE LANGUAGE) Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano have gotten into a Twitter feud over last week’s Democratic National Convention, with the former accusing her Charmed co-star of creating a “toxic” environment on the set of the show.

McGowan and Milano went at it on Friday after McGowan criticized Democrats for “achieving nothing” after the final night of the convention.

Milano fired back at McGowan in a series of tweets, listing the Democratic party’s accomplishments over the years, while calling McGowan’s comments, “the kind of thing an ACTUAL fraud would do.”

“Thousands of people are dying a day but you go on with your hyperbolic attention-seeking tweets,” she furthered.

McGowan responded by accusing Milano of stealing the #MeToo movement from founder Tarana Burke.

“You stole #metoo (a brilliant communication tool, not a movement) from Tarana. You co-opted my movement, the Cultural Reset, for fame, jealous of me for outing my rapist. You made 250k per week on Charmed,” she tweeted.

McGowan then accused Milano of being difficult to work with on Charmed, claiming Alyssa “threw a fit in front of the crew” and yelled, “They don’t pay me enough to do this s***!'”

“I cried every time we got renewed because you made that set toxic AF. Now, get off my coattails you f****** fraud,” she concluded.

ALBERTO PIZZOLI/AFP via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — It’s been over a month since the world learned the unexpected news that actress Kelly Preston passed away after a quiet battle with breast cancer. Now, her husband of nearly 28 years, John Travolta, is sharing with the world how he’s continuing to honor his wife’s memory.

The Grease actor broke his social media silence on Saturday to update fans how his family’s been adjusting to life without their beloved matriarch.

Sharing a video of a sweet father-daughter dance with his 20-year-old Ella, Travolta revealed that’s just one way the family is keeping Preston’s spirit alive.

“My daughter @ella.travolta and I dancing in memory of momma,” the 660year-old actor penned. “One of Kelly’s favorite things, dancing with me.”

The video shows the two waltzing to a jazzy piano performance before Travolta lifts his daughter’s arm and spins her forward and backward before they clasp hands again.

Travolta and Preston wed in 1991 and had three kids together, Ella, Jett and Benjamin, who is nine.

Jett was 16 when he died in 2009 after suffering a seizure.  He would have turned 28 in April.

Upon announcing Preston’s death on July 13, Travolta wrote “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”

The Saturday Night Fever actor also vowed that “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”

It was later revealed through a family spokesperson that Preston opted to keep her cancer battle a secret.
