'SNL' unveils first look at Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph as Biden and Harris

No Comments Entertainment News

NBCUniversal(NEW YORK) — Get ready!  Saturday Night Live returns with a bang over the weekend right as election season hits full swing.

With Saturday’s premiere airing just days before the highly anticipated Vice Presidential debate between current VP Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, fans finally got their first look at SNL‘s version of the Democratic ticket.

It was previously announced that Maya Rudolph would reprise her Emmy Award-winning role as Harris while comedian Jim Carrey will join this season to play Joe Biden.  The two transformed for their roles in an 18 second teaser, posted Thursday.

The clip shows Carrey donning a convincing head of white hair while Rudolph adjusts her own brown bob before both suit up and stand back to back, officially revealing their look when SNL returns for season 46.

Fans are already remarking on Carrey’s uncanny resemblance to Biden, as the comedian has already replicated the former VP’s wide grin and other mannerisms.

It was also announced that Alec Baldwin will also be returning to portray President Donald Trump once more.

Chris Rock and Megan Thee Stallion were previously announced to ring in the season as host and musical guest, respectively.

Catch the explosive premiere Saturday, October 3, at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

Jay Ellis says he was "shocked as everyone else" with the season four finale of 'Insecure'

No Comments Entertainment News

Photograph by Merie W. Wallace/HBO(NEW YORK) — Jay Ellis says he had no clue how season four of Insecure was going to end.

Like many fans who shared their surprise online, Ellis tells ABC Audio that he, too, was blindsided when he learned that his character, Lawrence, was going become a father right as he was getting back together with his estranged girlfriend — played by Issa Rae.

“I was just as shocked as everybody else, to be honest with you,” Ellis says. “I remember when we read it in the table read and I just screamed, ‘Dios mio!’ I was completely shocked at the end and didn’t see it coming at all whatsoever.”

What Ellis didn’t see coming was that his character had to be the one to break the news to Issa that he had gotten another woman pregnant. With such a bombshell ending, Ellis says he’s “super excited to find out” what will happen in season five.

“We’re just starting to get into our table reads now,” he reveals, noting he’s unsure what will happen to Lawrence. “We’ll pick up shooting at the top next year. But, you know, this show is known to play with your emotions a little bit and really make you think, and have conversations, and argue, and find different points of view. And I think that’s one of the fun things that that finale did.”

While Ellis is more than ready to get back on set as Lawrence, he’s admits he’s interested in going behind the camera as well.

“I would love to direct another episode,” Ellis says. “[But,] COVID kind of changes everything. Protocols are changed… and schedules… I don’t know how it’s all going to work out next season.”

“[But,] if Issa and Prentice [Penny] will have me back… I’d be happy to do another episode for sure,” he adds.

Sacha Baron Cohen tackles COVID-19, American politics in trailer for 'Borat' sequel

No Comments Entertainment News

Amazon Studios(LOS ANGELES) — Sacha Baron Cohen is back — and as outlandish as ever — in the trailer for the Borat sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

Following the 2006 debut of the loose-cannon character that is Borat, mastermind Cohen is stepping back into his famous “mankini,” now made out of surgical masks, to journey from Kazakhstan to America during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the just-released trailer, Borat reveals that he’s returning to the United States to carry out a secret mission. “I here to give my daughter as a gift to someone close to the throne,” he says in a voiceover, the camera panning to a shot of the White House.

Plenty of shenanigans await the father-daughter duo, ranging from staying at a stranger’s cabin in the woods to quarantine from COVID-19, to bursting into a Mike Pence rally wearing a Donald Trump mask with his daughter thrown over his shoulder, yelling through the crowd, “I brought the girl for you!”

The film, which in its entirety is titled, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was filmed in secret earlier this year.

Deadline reports that Subsequent was the first movie made during the mass production shutdown due to COVID-19. Cohen flew to America as COVID-19 restrictions were being lifted this summer to shoot the film with a limited crew.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm debuts on Amazon Prime on October 23.
