Alec Baldwin defends his return as Trump on 'SNL'

No Comments Entertainment News

Will Heath/NBC(NEW YORK) — In a lengthy Instagram video posted Sunday, Alec Baldwin defended his decision to reprise his role as President Donald Trump on the Saturday Night Live season premiere this weekend.

After receiving criticism for poking fun at the president while he’s in the hospital with COVID-19, Baldwin says he does not believe SNL was out of line.

“If there was ever the suggestion that Trump was truly, gravely ill, and people said, ‘Trump is really in trouble,’ then I would bet you everything I have that we wouldn’t even get near that, in terms of content of the show,” Baldwin shared in the nearly 15-minute long video, which is soundtracked by classical music.

“They would have done something else. I’ve seen that happen before.”

However, he continued, “We only have the words of the White House itself and the people who work there themselves to go on, and all of them have all been saying he isn’t in any danger…And if their word was that he was in serious trouble, then we probably wouldn’t have done it.”

Baldwin adds that the SNL sketch focused mainly on the debate.

“We thought the debate was something topical, and we didn’t have anything with him in a hospital bed, but we had the debate,” Baldwin said. “You’d have to have a very good reason to avoid that, topicality-wise, and nobody thought that they were mocking somebody’s illness by doing that.”

On Monday, Trump revealed he would be leaving Walter Reed Medical Center later in the day.

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Busy Philipps is popping out of acting retirement for Tina Fey.

Deadline reports the Cougar Town star and podcast host is joining the cast of Fey’s Girls5Ever comedy series on Peacock. She’ll star opposite singer Sara Bareilles and Hamilton star Renee Elise Goldsberry.

The show follows the members of a 1990s girl group who reunite for another chance at pop stardom. Philipps will play Summer, who’s described as “the most bubbly but least talented member of the group.”

According to Deadline, Summer is “now a Real Housewives reject in yoga pants living in a New Jersey McMansion.”

Last week, Philipps had teased she’d be returning to acting for an opportunity she just couldn’t pass up.  “And yes I’m coming out of acting retirement for the one person in this business who I would never say no to,” she wrote on Instagram, referencing Tina Fey.

Busy will tell the whole story of how the role came her way on this week’s episode of her podcast, Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best.

Philipps hosted the late-night talk show Busy Tonight on E! until May of last year.

Raise your cup of coffee! 'Gilmore Girls' turns 20

No Comments Entertainment News

Amanda Edwards/WireImage(NEW YORK) — Exactly 20 years ago today, on October 5, 2000, TV lovers were introduced to Gilmore Girls and the quaint utopia of Stars Hollow, a fictional town filled with fast-talking, pop-culture savvy and genuinely kind people.

Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show focused on the relationship between coffee-loving mother-daughter duo Lorelai Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham, and Rory Gilmore, played by Alexis Bledel.

The series ran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007. A four-part miniseries continuation, titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, streamed on Netflix in 2016, and will get its network debut on The CW with a four-night event beginning Monday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. ET.

Gilmore Girls was famously overlooked in the awards department, winning just one Emmy for makeup in 2004 and garnering a single Golden Globe nomination for Graham in 2001. Despite this, it was a hit with critics and viewers alike, back then and to this day.

For the show’s 20th anniversary, Good Morning America caught up with a few of the series’ stars to discuss its legacy.

“It’s unique,” says Keiko Agena, who played Rory’s best friend, Lane Kim, adding it “exists in this slightly different universe” from our own. “[It’s] a comforting, fun show to go back to and I think, especially now and at times where our lives feel stressful, it can feel almost like a home base, like a safe space.”

“I certainly think there’s a heart and a center to the show that is around kindness and community,” adds Sean Gunn, who played Kirk. “We could certainly use a little bit more of that in the world.”

So will the cast ever revisit Stars Hollow?

Rose Abdoo, who played Gypsy, says, “There are people who I think still want more. People ask me all the time would I do more? Of course I would do it again. That would be great.”

Sonia Recchia/Getty Image(LOS ANGELES) — Don’t get it twisted, Eva Mendes is perfectly happy at home with Ryan Gosling.

On Sunday, the 46-year-old actress posted a throwback pic of herself running on the beach on Instagram and joked, “Went for a run on the beach this morning,” before adding, “No I didn’t.”

“This picture was taken at least 15 years ago,” she clarified. “Haven’t seen a beach this year. Haven’t been on a run this year.”

In response to the post, someone commented, “You need to tell Ryan to get you out more,” which garnered a swift reply from the Ghost Rider alum which was captured by Comments By Celebs.

“No thank you, I’m good,” she wrote. “Rather be home with by man than anywhere else in the world.”

Mendes and Gosling have been together for nearly a decade. The pair first met in 2011 while filming The Place Beyond the Pines, which they both starred in. Since then, they’ve welcomed two daughters — Esmeralda Amada, 6, and Amada Lee, 4.
