Mark Ruffalo, Tiffany Haddish and more celebrities strip down to talk mail-in voting

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/CRAIG SJODIN(NEW YORK) — If you’ve ever wondered what some of your favorite celebrities look like naked, you’re in luck because they just stripped down to deliver a message about voting.

in a short video released on Wednesday, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Tiffany Haddish, Naomi Campbell, Josh Gad, Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler, and more appeared in the buff (from the waist up) and delivered a step-by-step on how to complete a mail-in ballot.

The entire act was also an amusing play on the term “naked ballot,” which the celebrities explain in the clip.

“Do you know that your ballots can be naked?” Ryan Michelle Bathe asks.

Later in the clip, Schumer shares, “There are two envelopes you have to stuff your ballot in otherwise it’s called a naked ballot.”

The stars sign off with a reminder for everyone to go vote.

“Everyone’s voice matters in this election,” Handler declares and Silverman adds, “America needs you.”

Tyra Banks teases 'Coyote Ugly' sequel

No Comments Entertainment News

Buena Vista Pictures/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Coyote Ugly may be getting a sequel after two decades.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Tyra Banks, who played Zoe in the original 2000 cult classic, revealed, “I literally was supposed to be on a conference call today about…doing Coyote Ugly 2 or a series.”

Banks, 46, went on to describe her audition for the original film, recalling, “They asked me what song I wanted to play…I was like, ‘OK, I’ll take Prince’s ‘Kiss.'”

“The whole song I ended up dancing.  Then after I’m out of breath, and then they all just started laughing,” The host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars continued.  “They’re like, ‘We are so sorry, but we were enjoying that so much, we kept the music going.'”

Adds Banks, “I was kind of mad, but I ended up getting the part, so I wasn’t mad.”

Coyote Ugly centered on Violet Sanford, played by Piper Perabo, who moves to New York to pursue a singing career and starts working at the titular bar — based on the Coyote Ugly Saloon founded in New York City in 1993 by Liliana “Lil” Lovell — to make some money.

The film grossed $113 million worldwide.

The Kelly Clarkson Show airs weekdays on NBC.

Macaulay Culkin shares selfie in 'Home Alone' mask

No Comments Entertainment News

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Macaulay Culkin is relying on nostalgia to convince people to wear protective masks.

Culkin, who became famous as a child for playing prankster Kevin McCallister in the Home Alone movies, is perhaps best known for the scene in which he slaps his cheeks while putting on aftershave and screams while looking directly into the camera.

On Wednesday, he recreated the moment with a selfie — though the bottom half of his face and his hands were printed on a mask.

“Just staying Covid-safe by wearing the flayed skin of my younger self,” he quipped in the caption. “Don’t forget to wear your masks, kids.”

Culkin, 40, told Esquire earlier this year that Home Alone director John Hughes was inspired to write the movie after seeing his performance in the John Candy comedy, Uncle Buck.

Home Alone premiered in 1990; the sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York came out two years later.

“That scene [in Uncle Buck] where I’m looking through the mail slot? Hughes saw that and he got the idea: Kid defends house! And he wrote Home Alone for me,” Culkin, who goes by “Mack,” said.

Immediately after the release of the film, Culkin became a household name, though eventually he began to act in films less frequently.

These days, the actor, who runs a comedy website, Bunny Ears, and is slated to appear in the next season of American Horror Story, said that although he may “act like a curmudgeonly old man,” he still likes the spotlight occasionally.

“It’s still fun to get back in the saddle once in a while and play around,” he told the magazine.

'The Right Stuff' cast discuss the impact of the Mercury 7 astronauts

No Comments Entertainment News

National Geographic/Gene Page(LOS ANGELES) — The Right Stuff takes flight on Disney+ Friday, inspired by Tom Wolfe’s bestselling novel about the original Mercury 7 astronauts, the early days of the Space Program and NASA. Although much is already known about this heroic and brave group, there is also still much to learn.

Patrick J. Adams, who plays pioneering astronaut John Glenn in the series, told ABC Audio that thanks to his research, he discovered a side to the American hero that many didn’t know about — a penchant for poetry — which was handwritten in journals.

Additionally, Nora Zehetner who portrays Annie Glenn — John’s wife, who struggled with stuttering — explains that the impact and message of Annie’s story shouldn’t be lost to us today.

“She went around the country giving speeches and helping people and I thought it was really interesting, it’s been really interesting watching Joe Biden,” she begins. “He had an incredibly bad stutter… And you have the President of the United States making fun of Biden’s stutter.”

“I can’t imagine what she went through and the fact that she persevered and she pushed past it, because she was the woman that she was, you know?” Zehetner concludes.

While all of the astronauts played instrumental parts in getting the U.S. into space, Gus Grissom — an astronaut who died in 1967 after a fire broke out in the capsule during a pre-launch test for the Apollo 1 mission, was described as “a different cut.”

Michael Trotte, who plays Grissom, told ABC Audio, “If not for Gus’s sacrifice, we don’t go to the moon.”

The Right Stuff may be premiering decades after the original events occurred, but, Executive Producer Jennifer Davisson says that the production team strived for “authenticity” in recreating the era.  (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

The Right Stuff debuts on Disney+ this Friday October 9.

'Remember the Titans' stars Wood Harris and Ryan Hurst reflect on a racist encounter during filming

No Comments Entertainment News

Buena Vista/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Remember the Titans actors Wood Harris and Ryan Hurst have reunited to discuss their classic film, and how it remains relevant to the ongoing fight against racial injustice.

The duo played real-life football players Julius Campbell Jr. and Gerry Bertier in the 2000 film, which you may already know is based on the real-life integration story of the 1971 T. C. Williams High School football team in Alexandria, Virginia, under its first Black coach, played by Oscar-winner Denzel Washington.

In an interview with GQ, Hurst, who is white, and Harris, who is Black, remembered different encounters with an unnamed white woman while filming, noting how they were treated differently in her presence.

“We went in there, I sat down, and I was talking with her and she was on her elbows leaning close to me,” Hurst recalled. “Then Wood walked over and she moved her chair back a little, leaned back, crossed her legs, crossed her arms and Wood looked over at me and nodded at me.”

In that moment, Hurst says he understood the intentional discrimination against his co-star and friend. But more importantly, the encounter taught him about racism.

“It just showed me, it doesn’t matter how socially aware [you are]. Experientially, as a white man, you’re born to be ignorant,” Hurst said.

Harris said he was “glad” to have created a film that is “apropos to the times” and today’s Black Lives Matter movement.

“We told the right story. It’s like perfect vision. You can rub your eyes and see clearly if you want to,” the Empire actor said. “I feel like Remember the Titans is a contribution in some way to that path that’s undeveloped — it’s a film that gets to stick around and be a part of this developed country.”
