'The Bachelorette' recap: Clare Crawley finds her husband, but it may not end well

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Craig Sjodin(LOS ANGELES) — After all the starts and stops, season 16 of ABC’s The Bachelorette, which kicked off on Tuesday, will go down as the craziest in franchise history, but if host Chris Harrison’s hunch is correct, “It doesn’t end well.”

The new season almost never got off the ground, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, which, like many other shows, saw production come to a halt in March. So how did reality dating show ensure that Clare Crawley found her soulmate in spite of the pandemic?

Harrison says much careful planning went into taping the show in accordance with California’s strict COVID-19 protocols.  The franchise, known for sending contestants to exotic locations, limited filming to just one location this time: La Quinta, California.

Prior to shooting the series, all the contestants, including Clare, were required to spend time in isolation, and tested regularly for the virus.  The entire season was shot in a bubble, so that Crawley and the men could kiss and hug, just as they would in a regular season.

Finally, it was time for Clare to meet her suitors, each of whom pulled out all the stops, using clever opening lines and even elaborate props, to make a memorable first impression on her.

She was impressed by them all, but Dale, the 31-year-old former pro football player from San Diego, became the early frontrunner.  Dale literally had Clare, 39, from “Hello,” making her gush into the camera “I think I may have just met my husband.”  Their conversation at the cocktail hour later on seemed to seal the deal, and he walked off with the first impression rose.

Another potential suitor, Blake Moynes, a 29-year-old wildlife manager from Ontario, Canada, made an impression on Clare, even before the two met face-to-face.

Upon hearing that Crawley’s mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia was injured in a fall, Moynes — in a blatant violation of the rules — contacted Crawley to send his best wishes.  While acknowledging that it was wrong, Clare was genuinely touched by Blake’s willingness to risk getting tossed from the show in order to check up on her.

As Clare, who put Juan Pablo in his place on the memorable, 18th season finale of The Bachelor, tells Harrison, “I’m a woman who knows what I want and I follow my gut.”  That became evident than when Tyler C., a 27-year-old lawyer, had some “dirt” on 30-year-old medical device salesman Yosef, whom Tyler claimed had sent a flirtatious video message to a woman while quarantining.

Clare sat both men down and listened patiently to both men’s stories, before declaring, “There’s still a lot of men that I haven’t talked with…I’m gonna continue chatting.”

Later, at the rose ceremony, Clare delivered swift justice, sending Tyler C. packing, along with eight other guys.

Here are the remaining men:

Ben, 29, an Army Ranger veteran from Venice, Calif.
Bennett, 36, a wealth management consultant from New York City, N.Y.
Blake Monar, 31, a male grooming specialist from Phoenix, Ariz.

Michael Kovac/Getty Images for Champagne Collet(LOS ANGELES) — It looks like the highly anticipated Coming to America sequel may not end up in theaters after all.

Variety reports that Paramount Pictures is in the process of selling Coming 2 America — the second installment of Eddie Murphy’s 1988 cult classic — to Amazon Studios for $125 million.

If the deal goes through, the film will bypass theaters and instead launch on Amazon Prime on December 18.

The sale of this project follows other notable films sold by Paramount to streamers, including Aaron Sorkin’s Trial of the Chicago 7 and the action comedy Lovebirds, both of which went to Netflix. The studio also sold the Michael B. Jordan led film, Without Remorse, to Amazon back in July.

As previously noted, Coming 2 America will bring back original cast members Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Garcelle Beauvais, Shari Headley and Paul Bates to reprise their roles in the sequel.

In the original film, Murphy stars as Akeem Joffer, the crown prince of the fictional African nation of Zamunda. In an effort to find a wife, Akeem, along with his trusty assistant Semmi, played by Hall, decide to travel to Queens, NY.

In the sequel, Akeem, who is set to become king, learns about a long-lost son and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.

Cliff Lipson/CBS via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Two and a Half Men actress Conchata Ferrell has died at age 77, according to Deadline.

She reportedly passed away peacefully on October 12 of complications following a cardiac arrest. She was surrounded by family at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, California.

Ferrell played Charlie Sheen’s housekeeper Berta on CBS’ Two and a Half Men, a role that earned her two Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy nominations, in 2005 and 2007.

Sheen tweeted following news of Ferrell’s passing, “an absolute sweetheart. a consummate pro. a genuine friend. a shocking and painful loss. Berta, your housekeeping was a tad suspect, your ‘people’ keeping was perfect.”

Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer also tweeted of Ferrell, “She was a beautiful human. Berta’s gruff exterior was an invention of the writers. Chatty’s warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths. I’m crying for the woman I’ll miss, and the joy she brought so many.”

Ferrell’s other TV credits included roles on L.A. Law, Good Times, E/R, Grace and Frankie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and BJ and The Bear. She also appeared in films including Heartland, Network, Mystic Pizza, True Romance, Erin Brockovich, Edward Scissorhands and Krampus.

'Mad Max' prequel casts Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger Furiosa

ANGELA WEISS/AFP via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has officially found its cast.

According to Variety, Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking on the title role in Furiosa, about a younger version of the character played by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Fury Road.

Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth and Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have also joined the cast.  Mad Max franchise creator George Miller will write, direct and produce the film.

Back in May, Miller spoke to The New York Times about the challenges of casting a younger Furiosa. He said he had considered using de-aging technology so that Theron, 44, could reprise her role, but he decided against doing so.

Taylor-Joy, 24, has most recently starred in the film Emma. She also appeared in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and Glass.

No word yet on when Furiosa begins filming.

Dominic West claims his “marriage is strong” after he’s spotted kissing Lily James

GlosPics/MEGA/GC Images (L-R: Dominic West, Catherine FitzGerald)(LONDON) — The Affair star Dominic West is hitting back after accusations he’s been having, well, an affair with actress Lily James.

After West and James were photographed kissing and canoodling in Rome this weekend, West and his wife of 10 years, Catherine FitzGerald, put on a united front to show everything is just fine in their marriage.

On Tuesday, West and FitzGerald posed for a photo opp outside their home in England and shared a kiss of their own for photographers. They also held up a written sign that read, “Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together. Thank you.”

U.K. tabloid The Daily Mail had published photos of West, 50, and James, 31, riding an electric scooter together in Rome on Sunday. They were later spotted at a restaurant where West was snapped with his arm around James and kissing her neck. Sources said they also spent two nights at Hotel De La Ville together.

The two are set to co-star in the TV series The Pursuit of Love and while some initially thought they could be filming scenes for the show, the series is a period piece and they were not in costume.

West and FitzGerald share four children together: Dora, 14, Senan, 12, Francis, 11, and Christabel, 7. West also has a 22-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
