Jeannie Mai shares post surgery update after 'Dancing With The Stars' exit

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Laretta Houston(LOS ANGELES) — It’s all thumbs-up for Jeannie Mai, who recently was forced to exit Dancing With The Stars for a medical emergency which required surgery.

On Thursday, the cohost of The Real shared an Instagram Story of herself in front of a hospital room mirror giving a thumbs-up and rocking a “Vote Jeannie” top.

“4 DAYS POST SURGERY,” she wrote. “no chewing no speaking no bad tshirts.”

On November, 2, Mai explained to Good Morning America that she was diagnosed with epiglottitis — a potentially life-threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling in the flap of tissue that covers the windpipe, blocking airflow to the lungs, according to the Mayo Clinic

The diagnosis led to her early exit on the current season of Dancing With The Stars, where she was paired with pro dancer Brandon Armstrong.

“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” she revealed in an exclusive statement. “I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here.”

“I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come,” she added.

'The Bachelorette' recap: Clare "blows up" 'The Bachelorette', and Tayshia makes her debut

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Craig Sjodin(LOS ANGELES) — After weeks of hype, Tuesday’s episode of The Bachelorette finally confirmed our suspicions; Clare found true love with Dale and opened the door for Tayshia Adams.

Thursday’s episode opened with the 16 remaining men, feeling confused and a bit angry about where they stand with Clare, pondering their next move.

Meanwhile, host Chris Harrison paid Clare a visit to warn her that “the path we’re on right now… we can’t continue.”  There, she makes the stunning revelation that she’s in love with Dale and that he’s the one with whom she’d like to spend the rest of her life.

That led Harrison to respond with the phrase that’s been teased for weeks, “Congratulations, you’ve blown up The Bachelorette.”

Harrison then informed the remaining men that both the cocktail party and rose ceremony had been cancelled.  Afterwards, he asked Dale to step outside and the other competitors become all the more confused when neither man returns.

Dale, as it turned out, had been invited on a one-on-one date by Clare, who professed her love for him.  After happily returning her feelings, the two share a slow dance while being serenaded by Chris and Brie, winners of The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart.

Later, Dale proposed to Clare and she excitedly accepted.

Their whirlwind romance sparked controversy though, amid rumors the two were secretly in contact with each other prior to the competition — which Clare and Dale vehemently deny.

Back at the villa, Harrison delivered the news to the others that Clare would be departing the show, but offered the men a “historic” proposition.  The competitors, should they choose, would be allowed to continue their journey with a brand new Bachelorette —  Tayshia Adams from The Bachelor season 23.

The guys were divided on whether to accept or not, but most seemed grateful to get a fresh start due to never really having the chance to forge a bond with Clare.  However, Blake, Zach J., Jason and Riley aren’t so sure that this is the route they want to take.

After some thought, they all eventually agree to try their luck with their new mystery woman, but, as next week’s coming attractions seemed to imply, Adams and the guys are all in for a bumpy ride.

“Tayshia,” warns Harrison as the episode wraps, “unfortunately everything’s about to change.”

Also next week, Clare and Dale “return to tell all,” and address the rumors that they lied to Bachelor Nation.

The Bachelorette returns next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Jeremy Piven says his new film 'My Dad’s Christmas Date' proves "The romantic comedy form is not broken"

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of MSR Media(LOS ANGELES) — Jeremy Piven stars in My Dad’s Christmas Date, a feisty romantic comedy that opens in theaters and on-demand Friday.

Piven’s plays a single father reeling from the loss of his wife, when his 16-year-old daughter hatches a plan to get her dad back “out there” and goes as far as impersonating him on dating sites to find him a match.

While Piven definitely does not recommend children impersonating their single parents on dating sites, he tells ABC Audio that, in the movie, it’s all in good fun.

“That’s what is so cool about this movie is it’s funny and heartfelt, and awkward, and dangerous and all these different things,” the Emmy Award winner gushed. “The romantic comedy form is not broken.”

Piven’s character is certainly a 180 from his days playing Ari Gold on the hit HBO show Entourage, which he says was an exciting challenge.

“I never played a role like this,” the comedian admitted, but said he was able to draw inspiration from his family to nail the part. “I had a great father – my mother is still around and my sister has kids.”

He also believes that, due to the current political climate, “we need to see more” lighthearted films.

But, when it comes to Ari Gold, whom he played for eight seasons on Entourage, he believes 2020 has room for the beloved uber-agent, too.

Noting that fans have been begging for Ari, Piven joked, “I mean I could just start doing YouTube videos of me as Ari Gold rolling calls! You know that would be funny.”

As for how Ari would last in a 2020-version of Entourage, Piven says he wouldn’t “last a solid 11 seconds” because he’d fail to navigate “political correctness, performative behaviors [and] cancel culture.”

'Twas the night before Life Day…Disney unveils trailer to 'LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special'

No Comments Entertainment News

Disney+/Lucasfilm(NEW YORK) — While the original Star Wars Holiday Special lives on — if you can find it online — in infamy, Disney and Lucasfilm have built an all-new celebration of the Wookiee holiday Life Day with its LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

The adventure takes Rey on a cross-timeline adventure when her journey to celebrate the Star Wars universe’s special day — for the uninitiated, it’s November 17 — puts her face to face with all the heroes and villains from that galaxy far, far away.

The trailer shows Rey and BB-8 entering a mysterious Jedi temple, where she finds a crystal that transports them right into Luke Skywalker’s cockpit during the Battle of Yavin, which ended with Skywalker destroying the Death Star.

Apart from some stunning, CG-LEGO recreations of some of the original trilogy’s most famous scenes, the teaser shows Rey literally crossing swords with Darth Vader, and not surprisingly crossing paths with The Mandalorian and his cute charge, Baby Yoda.

The special features the voices of Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams, as well as Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Star Wars sequel star Kelly Marie Tran, Star Wars: The Clone Wars vets Matt Lanter, who voices Anakin Skywalker, Tom Kane, who plays Yoda, James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Dee Bradley Baker, who voices all the clone troopers.

Alas, it doesn’t feature the original trilogy’s main stars, or Bea Arthur or REO Speedwagon as did the original — which George Lucas had nothing do with, and which he publicly admitted he’d erase from the planet if he could.

The special airs on Disney+ on November 17.

Personal pain leads 'How I Met Your Mother' creators to Kristen Bell/Jonathan Groff movie musical

No Comments Entertainment News

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney(LOS ANGELES) — Frozen series voice cast members Jonathan Groff and Kristen Bell& will reunite onscreen for the musical film Molly and the Moon, from How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

Deadline broke the news, and explained the musical was born of a personal struggle of both Thomas and his wife, as well as their baby. “[L]ife served up an enormous curve ball to us,” Carter explained. His son, Elliot, was diagnosed with a genetic defect that left the baby fighting for his life.

“And what it meant for Elliot is that he had several heart defects and needed open-heart surgery at only two weeks old…[T]his little tiny baby, was going through this epic life or death battle, lying in this plastic box, this small incubator,” Carter continued.

Through this pain, and their love of music, Deadline notes, Bays and Thomas crafted a musical tale, “about a baby struggling to survive to go home with its parents and start life.”

Bell plays the baby Molly’s mom, Kate, and Groff plays Brian, Molly’s dad.
