Ellen DeGeneres, Miley Cyrus and more show support as Elliot Page comes out as transgender

No Comments Entertainment News

GEOFF ROBINS/AFP via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — The love and support is pouring out for Elliot Page.

After the 33-year-old actor came out as transgender, he has been flooded with positive messages from his celebrity peers.

Among the first to comment was Miley Cyrus who wrote, “Elliot rules” with a string of black heart emojis.

On Twitter, Ellen DeGeneres shared, “Sending love to my friend, @TheElliotPage. You inspire me with your strength, courage and honesty.”

Others who applauded Page were Olivia Munn, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Arquette, James Gunn, and Anna Kendrick, to name a few.

The Twitter pages for Netflix and The Umbrella Academy, where Page stars in the role of Vanya Hargreeves, a cisgender woman, also cheered him on with the same message.

“So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT!!!” the accounts wrote.

However, even though there was an outpouring of support for the Juno star, some thought that his role in The Umbrella Academy should be recast, but sources told Variety that there are no plans to change his character’s gender.

The X-Men alum announced that he is transgender in a lengthy social media post on Tuesday, December 1.

“Hi friends,” he wrote. “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot.”

'The Bachelorette' recap: Increasing tension between two men leaves Tayshia with a tough decision

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Craig Sjodin(LOS ANGELES) — On Tuesday’s episode of The Bachelorette, the ongoing tension between Barrett and Noah got out of hand, leaving Tayshia with a dilemma — one of them had to go, but who would it be?

The show kicked off with former Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher filling in for Chris Harrison, who temporarily left to accompany his son to college.  Fletcher delivered the first of two one-on-one date cards to Zac, with the message that Tayshia was “looking for a man I can picture a future with.”

The date accidentally stirred up bad memories for the previously married Bachelorette star because it involved Tayshia and Zac posing for pictures dressed in wedding attire.  The two bonded after Zac brought up his own failed marriage and helped her see her divorce in a different light.

Later, Zac opened up about his traumatic past, which began with emergency surgery for a brain tumor, followed by years of drug and alcohol abuse, troubles with the law and, finally, a couple of stints in rehab.  The 36-year-old Haddonfield, New Jersey native ultimately straightened out his life and pays it forward by working as an addiction specialist.

Zac’s honesty was rewarded with a rose.

Next, Spencer, Ivan, Ed, Blake, Brendan, Riley, Demar, Bennett, Ben and Noah were invited on a group date, the invitation of which teased, “Express yourself.”

They entered an art studio to find live male and female models posing nude together.  The men, expecting to have the get naked themselves, were relieved to hear they’d be putting their artistic skills to work by “sketching from the human form in a romantic embrace.”

The artistic challenges got increasingly harder and more personal, until finally, the men were asked to create a self portrait that revealed something deep inside them.  All 10 bachelors performed well, but it was Ben who proved to be the bravest by baring his body as well as his soul for Tayshia.

“This is me showing up for you,” he explained.  Ben’s willingness to let his guard down left Tayshia “overwhelmed” and reduced her to tears.

Later, during a private moment with Tayshia at the after-party, Ben opened up even more.  He explained that he battled eating disorders for 10 years, sparked by insecurities about his weight that started in high school and lasted into his 20s.  Ben told Tayshia that, aside from his sister, she was now the only other person who knew.  Tayshia rewarded the 30-year-old Army vet with the date rose.

What could have been a perfect day, however, was spoiled by Bennet and Noah, who spent the date throwing shade at each other in full view of Tayshia.

The second one-on-one date went to Eazy, who accompanied Tayshia on a ghost hunt through parts of the resort that, legend has it, were haunted.  Looking to take a “monumental step” in their relationship, Eazy told Tayshia at dinner that he was falling in love with her, only to find out that she was “not there” with him.

In one of the most shocking eliminations of the season, the devastated bachelor was sent home.

Meanwhile, the drama between Bennett and Noah became too much for Tayshia, who decided one of them had to go and set up an impromptu two-on-one date to help her decide.

Which of the archenemies will receive a rose?  We’ll get the answer when The Bachelorette returns Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Hollywood ending: Hugh Grant says he and 'Bridget Jones's Diary' co-star Renee Zellweger are still close

No Comments Entertainment News

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — For fans of the beloved romantic comedy, there’s a happy ending for Bridget Jones’ Diary co-stars Hugh Grant and his onscreen love, Renée Zellweger.

“I love Renée. Uh, she’s one of the few actresses I haven’t fallen out with,” Grant confessed on the SirusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. The actor adds, “…[W]e got on very well together and, we still exchange long emails.”

The pair not only starred in the 2001 hit, but also its successful follow-ups Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004 and 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby.

Grant adds of the email exchanges between he and Zellweger, “Hers in particular, at least 70 pages each, interesting stuff, but quite hard to decipher.”

He adds of the two-time Oscar winner, “she’s a properly good egg and a genius.”

Grant’s affection for Zellweger also extends to her work. “Did you see her…Judy Garland? About as good as acting gets,” he declared, referring to Zellweger’s Oscar-winning performance in last year’s biopic, Judy.

"The Force was at play": Rosario Dawson says a fan's tweet led to her role in 'The Mandalorian'

No Comments Entertainment News

Disney+(LOS ANGELES) — Fans are still freaking out about Rosario Dawson’s debut as former Jedi Ahsoka [ah-SOH-kah] Tano in the latest episode Disney+’s The Mandalorian — and she says they have an unknown fan to thank.

Way back in 2017, a Twitter user posted a now-deleted split-screen photo that showed Dawson hugging her Shattered Glass co-star Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in two of the Star Wars prequels.  Next to it was an image of Ahsoka and her master Akakin from the animated Clone Wars series.

In the new issue of Vanity Fair, Dawson says when she saw the pic, “I retweeted back and I was like, ‘Absolutely, yes please’ and ‘#AhsokaLives.'”

Long story short, her tweet caught the attention of the Clone Wars producers, with the casting idea years later making its way to The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, who knew Dawson personally.

Dawson, an admitted Star Wars fangirl, confessed she was “freaking out” during the audition, “trying to play it cool, but I was sweating.”

Dawson got the part she loved, and the rest is history — or, as she puts it, “[I]t just felt like the Force was at play.”

Colman Domingo recalls the "moment" when Chadwick Boseman broke down during 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'

No Comments Entertainment News

David Lee / Netflix(NEW YORK) —  (NOTE LANGUAGE) Colman Domingo is sharing a powerful scene from Chadwick Boseman’s last film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

In the August Wilson adapted feature, Domingo plays Cutler, one of Ma Rainey’s band members. Colman says he experienced an emotional “moment” on set with Boseman, who plays Levee, after Cutler tells the story of a Black pastor being confronted by a group of white men.

“And then Chad comes in,” Colman tells ABC Audio. “And he stopped in the middle of some words… which was about God’s will and basically why do terrible things happen to people who believe. It touched him deeply, whatever it was.”

Colman says he didn’t want the scene to be cut so he started yelling at Boseman to, “‘Tell me, tell me, tell me!'”

“And he finally exploded with those lines, “God hates n***** as much in his heart. God takes n***** wishes and throws them in the garbage. God don’t care about your Black a**,'” he recalls Chad saying.

“And that strikes fear in the heart of Cutler because it’s… like, ‘What if he’s right?,'” Coleman continues. “And all Cutler can do is… throw blows at him. So we go to blows [and] George [C. Wolfe] calls ‘Cut!” And we looked at each other and we just started crying and holding each other.”

“And we were not only crying and holding each other as Levee and Cutler, but it was Chad and Colman,” he explains. “And I think it was those things that touch us as Black men in the world.”

Although Colman notes that he and Boseman are “very hopeful people…[who] believe in humanity” he admits he’s not always sure.

“But I think there’s also that little question… in the back of [our] mind that hurts us deeply to the core: ‘What if it’s all a lie?'” Colman adds.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom premieres on Netflix December 18.
