Mental health expert and 'Queer Eye' star Karamo Brown talks keeping connections through the pandemic

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of Karamo(NEW YORK) — The pandemic has taken a toll on our mental health, and with the socially distanced holiday season fast approaching, ABC Audio caught up with licensed therapist and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown to see what we can do to stay connected.

“What are other ways that we’ve forgotten about that you could still connect with people outside of just giving each other gifts?” asks Brown, who was a licensed social worker before becoming a media personality.

“I’ve been writing letters during the pandemic,” Karamo continues, “and it has been such a treat to write a letter and to get a letter back. I mean, you would swear it was 1983 the way I’ve been at my mailbox excited for letters, but there’s something more intimate and something about connecting through a letter where someone is actually taking the time.”

He adds, “It sort of helps you to step away from your television or your social devices. It’s been really great.”

“Though things have changed, doesn’t mean that they’ve changed for the worst,” Brown insists.  “[W]e we can still find new ways to connect to send cheer, to show people that — listen, we can still give back and be there for each other, even though things are a little bit difficult this time.”

With giving back in mind, the TV personality is hosting Karamo’s Holiday Spectacular. The Instagram Live event on December 17 at 7 p.m. Eastern is being presented by online payment company Zelle, and will not only see Brown giving advice on dating and mental health, but also awarding $75,000 to worthy winners of Zelle’s “Send Cheer” contest.

'Tenet' out on Blu-ray and DVD today

No Comments Entertainment News

Melinda Sue Gordon; ©2020 Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved. (LOS ANGELES) — Tenet, the time-bending Christopher Nolan thriller starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, finally comes out on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD today.

For millions of movie fans in the U.S., it will be their first chance to see the much-anticipated film, which was released in theaters overseas but had a very limited theatrical run in the U.S., due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was recently announced that the film will also be released on HBO Max later in the year.

The thriller film revolves around a technology that changes the flow of time. Nolan — who broke the visual mold with his 2010 film Inception, which saw three-dimensional objects like skyscrapers folding like origami — with Tenet is untethered from the fourth dimension, turning those action movie standards like gunfights and car chases into mind-bending action set pieces.

The DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD release contains an hour-long “making of” documentary appropriately titled “Looking at the world in a new way.”

Washington, a former college and pro football player, called Tenet “the most physical ask of his career,” telling ABC Audio about the complicated fight choreography, wire work, and other demands it took to bring the movie to life.

“I mean, I give a shout-out and respect to, like, The Rock and Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme…What they put their bodies through. So much more respect for them. And all the stunt guys out there, men and women that do it daily and put their lives at risk, their health at risk. It is quite a challenge. And I loved every moment of it…”

Tenet also stars Michael Caine, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh.

Anika Noni Rose teases what she'd like to see happen to Tiana from Disney's 'Princess and the Frog'

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC(NEW YORK) — Anika Noni Rose is celebrating with fans at the news that her beloved character Tiana, from Disney’s 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog, is coming to Disney+ as an animated series from Pixar.

Prior to the announcement on December 10, Rose told ABC Audio that she’d love to see her character come back in a “second cartoon.”

“I want… to see who she becomes,” she says. “She’s an amazing character. And she spoke to a lot of people and she continues to do so, which is a great honor to me.”

Although Rose easily says “yes” to lending her voice to her iconic character again, the Jingle Jangle star does have a few thoughts on what a new story about Tiana should entail.

“She clearly wouldn’t be in 2020,” she laughs.

“But I would want to see where she goes now that she opened her restaurant and she’s gotten her dream and she is a princess,” Rose says. “And Naveen found a way by the end of the movie to recognize what was important in his life and make some changes in there.”

Rose says there are also a lot of questions to be answered.

“How do they go forward? What do they do? How do they meld those worlds?,” she ponders. “What is life like in New Orleans? What is life in Maldonia? And how do they continue to invite that magic that they found when they were transformed into their lives?”

“I would love to see all of that,” Rose adds.

While Rose poses some valid questions, it may take a while for them to be answered.

Tiana, which is expected to feature original music and bring back some of the main characters, is set to launch sometime in 2022.

Sharon Osbourne announces she's tested positive for COVID-19

No Comments Entertainment News

Cliff Lipson/CBS @2020 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — A second cohost of The Talk has contracted COVID-19.

Sharon Osbourne announced late Monday that she has tested positive for the virus and was briefly hospitalized.

The British television personality assures she is on the road to recovery and fans need not worry about her or husband Ozzy Osbourne’s health.

“I wanted to share I’ve tested positive for Covid 19,” Osbourne, 68, shared.  “After a brief hospitalization, I’m now recuperating at a location away from Ozzy.”

The Emmy Award winner revealed that her husband tested negative for the virus and encouraged her followers to “please stay safe and healthy.”

It is currently unknown how Sharon contracted the virus.

On Thursday, Carrie Ann Inaba announced that she tested positive for the infectious virus and was experiencing a fever, bad cough and “lots of aches and pains.”  She is currently in isolation and is recovering at home.

The Talk is not filming new episodes as it is on a scheduled hiatus. At the time, it is unknown whether Carrie Ann’s or Sharon’s return will be in person or virtual when the show resumes filming.

This wouldn’t be the first time Osbourne had to film apart from her cohosts.  In September,  her two granddaughters, Minnie and Andy, tested positive for COVID-19 and Sharon was placed in mandatory quarantine.

When revealing Minnie’s diagnosis on the talk show on September 21, the Revenge author said at the time, “It just goes to show you, she’s three years of age, that children can get COVID” and that they were able to trace the infection to “somebody who works for my son.”

Andy contracted the virus two days later, to which Osbourne stressed, “Anyone can get this.”

The Talk airs weekdays on CBS.

David Crotty/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — 2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year for many, but that apparently didn’t stop the checks from rolling in for plenty of celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Kanye West.

The beauty mogul and rapper/fashion designer topped Forbes‘ list of the world’s highest-paid celebrities of 2020. As noted by the publication, Jenner, 23, nabbed the number one spot by raking in $590 million, largely due to selling a 51 percent stake in her cosmetics brand.

Meanwhile her brother-in-law, West, 43, followed in second earning $170 million, with a lot of the funds coming from his Yeezy sneaker deal with Adidas.

Together, the full list of Forbes‘ Top 100 highest-paid celebrities has earned over $6.1 billion, before taxes and fees and while there’s no denying that is a lot of money, it is a $200 million drop from the 2019 combined total.
