'The Bachelorette' recap: Tayshia's journey ends with and engagement to Zac

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Craig Sjodin(LOS ANGELES) — The two-part season 16 finale of The Bachelorette concluded on Tuesday with Tayshia getting engaged to Zac.

But first, Tayshia had to figure out how to handle Ben’s surprise return and his bombshell announcement that he was in love with her.  We got an indication of what her answer would be when, against her better judgement, the two shared a long, passionate kiss.

Sure enough, Ben surprised Ivan and Zac by showing up for what would be a shocking rose ceremony.

It began with Tayshia pulling Ivan away for a private conversation, where she revealed that while they meshed on so many levels, their religious differences posed a problem.  That, coupled with Ben’s return, left Tayshia with no other choice than to send Ivan home.

Next, it was time for Ben and Zac to meet Tayshia’s parents.

Both suitors earned her parents’ approval, each convincing them that they were truly in love with Tayshia, and leaving the Bachelorette confident with the choices she’s made.

Unfortunately, the high Tayshia felt after the meetings, was short-lived, when she received a surprise visit from her dad, who felt that while he “liked Zac” and Ben “was a good guy,” he didn’t want to see a repeat of her past mistakes.

“You’ve learned from every step from since…your divorce,” he said, “and what I wanna make sure is that we can do whatever we can to not go down that path again.”

The conversation left her a little less certain about whether she was really ready to tie the knot.

One more date with Zac — the last before making the biggest of her life — restored her confidence a little bit, though she tried her best not to let the moment cloud her judgement.

Later, Tayshia opened up to Zac about her fear that his feelings for her might change if down the road she just wanted “to be like, a mom,” and he thought, “But you were once this one, ambitious, like, girl.”

“I understand the word commitment. I understand the word loyalty…I understand what these things mean,” he assured her, adding, “whether or not in five years you’re gonna be a stay-at-home mom or waitress…it doesn’t matter to me, as long as you’re happy, because that’s not the reason…I love you.”

That reassurance brought Tayshia the clarity needed, along with the realization that Zac was her true love.  When she and Ben met for what was to have been their final date, Tayshia broke the news to him that, “I care about you so much, but I just feel like my heart is with somebody else.”

The only remaining question was whether Tayshia was ready to accept Zac’s proposal.

After a long buildup, Zac popped the question, to which Tayshia, wiping tears from her eyes answered, “Yes! Yes, yes, yes! I love you.”

The couple then rode off — or rather walked off — in the same toy cab Zac had brought to their hometown date. However, this time, it was adorned with a “just engaged” sign and tin cans dragging tin cans dangling from the rear as Zac and Tayshia hummed “New York, New York.”

The Bachelor season 25 kicks off January 4 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Margot Robbie hopes her "left of center" live-action 'Barbie' movie will "surprise people"

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Rick Rowell(LOS ANGELES) — The words “Barbie” and “thought provoking” might not always fit together like the blonde bombshell did into her pink Corvette, but that’s exactly what Margot Robbie is going for with her live-action Barbie movie.

The Oscar-nominated actress is an obvious choice to play the flesh-and-blood incarnation of the popular Mattel toy, but as a producer she deliberately chose less obvious choices to, respectively, write and direct it: Lady Bird‘s Greta Gerwig and Marriage Story’s Noah Baumbach.

“Something like Barbie where the [intellectual property or IP], the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,'” Robbie tells The Hollywood Reporter, “but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”

She says of her production company LuckyChap, “We like the things that feel a little left of center.”

Robbie says, “Now, can we truly honor the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.”

The film, in which Barbie enters the real world, is still in development.

'Jeopardy!' announcer Johnny Gilbert remembers "friend and colleague" Alex Trebek

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC(LOS ANGELES) — “Part of me left here when Alex left, really.” That’s the word from longtime Jeopardy! announcer Johnny Gilbert, on the passing of his “friend and colleague” Alex Trebek.

The affable, Emmy-winning quiz show host died at the age of 80 on November 8 following a lengthy battle against pancreatic cancer, which he was first diagnosed with in March 2019.

“Everybody’s walking around in a little bit of a fog, shaken from the whole thing,” the 96-year-old Gilbert tells People.

The announcer expressed, “Jeopardy! has always been my life. I got married [to wife Sharee] right after the show went on the air, so our life together and the show’s life are all bundled into one.”

Gilbert met Trebek in 1984, and recalled, “he wasn’t the usual big-smiley-face emcee” and was someone who, “was quiet and listening to everybody and everything.”

He explained, “Alex has always been the same person. He was very introspective, he read a tremendous amount and traveled a lot. He was always doing crossword puzzles to keep his mind active.”

Gilbert also remembered how Trebek would answer their audience’s questions during commercial breaks — no matter how serious or silly they were.

“One gal asked him, ‘Boxers or briefs?’ Alex said, ‘Thongs!'” he laughed. “I told him a long time ago, ‘If this show goes away, you could be a stand-up comedian.'”

As for whoever carries the torch of Trebek’s legacy forward as Jeopardy! host, Gilbert has just one piece of advice.

Jeopardy! is a very special game,” he said. “If the person lets the show be the show, it will be fine.”

Trebek’s final Jeopardy! will air on Christmas Day. Guest hosts like all-time champ Ken Jennings have been filling in before a successor is named.

'Glee' alum Heather Morris apologizes to "victims of pedophilia" after defending late former co-star Mark Salling

No Comments Entertainment News

Salling and Morris in 2015 — Frazer Harrison/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Former Glee star Heather Morris is apologizing after she defended her former co-star Mark Salling, who died by suicide in 2018 after being convicted on child pornography charges.

Last week, Morris tweeted a Glee cast photo of the former Fox phenomenon to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the show’s Christmas special.  In response, one Twitter user reposted the picture with the “puking emoji” over Salling’s face.

“The vomit face on Marks face is offensive,” Heather commented in a since-deleted tweet.  According to People, the rest of that tweet referenced the deaths of Glee co-stars Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in 2013, and Naya Rivera, who drowned earlier this year.

Morris wrote of the three late Glee actors, “It is SO incredibl[y] tough to have to act like that 3rd one is invisible, because even though his actions are unjustifiable, he was a part of our family at one point and he was mentally SICK. Yes pedophelia [sic] is a sickness.”

But Morris returned to Twitter again Monday to comment, “Whether you, a friend [or] a family member has been a victim of pedophilia, I realize my words may have been insensitive. To all those who felt triggered by my message, I want to sincerely apologize for the harm I caused.”

“Whether you, a friend [or] a family member has been a victim of pedophilia, I realize my words may have been insensitive to your experience and for that I can’t express enough how sorry I am,” Morris concluded.

Salling’s suicide came weeks before he was to start a prison sentence for possession of tens of thousands of pornographic pictures and hundreds of videos investigators discovered following his arrest in 2015.

Comic Natasha Leggero says goodbye to quarantine parenting in 'Yearly Departed'

No Comments Entertainment News

Amazon Prime(NEW YORK) — Amazon Prime’s upcoming Yearly Departed is a series of eulogies for the dumpster fire of a year that was 2020, given by a line-up of all female comedians including Tiffany Haddish, Rachel Brosnahan, Sarah Silverman and Natasha Leggero.

Each very funny woman takes the podium at a funeral parlor and says goodbye to a different aspect of this year. Leggero is ready to bury pandemic parenting. “I mean, we’re not supposed to be spending all day with our kids,” she laughs to ABC Audio. “That’s why the women in the ’50s were popping pills all day, right? They all got divorces. This is like a new thing.”

She added with a smile, “I have a nanny now, but, you know, it was it was rough there for about nine and a half months.”

Leggero says, “It’s also challenging, your kids watching so much TV. And it’s like obviously in the same way that [appearing in] this show felt right, like every time I see my kid, like, watching something on YouTube that’s just on a loop, it feels wrong.”

Yearly Departed, which also features a show-stopping “In Memoriam” segment sung by a very famous singer — no spoilers — hits Amazon Prime on December 30.
