David Oyelowo and Felicity Jones explain how George Clooney "embraced" their personal narratives in 'The Midnight Sky'

No Comments Entertainment News

Philippe Antonello/NETFLIX ©2020(LOS ANGELES) — David Oyelowo and Felicity Jones are praising director and star George Clooney for “embracing” their personal narratives in his Netflix sci-fi drama The Midnight Sky.

In the film, Jones plays Sully, an expectant mother and astronaut on a mission in space. Jones, who was pregnant during the filming of the project, tells ABC Audio that it was “very cool of Clooney” to not “CGI [out her] bump” out of his film.

“[He] just made it a much more truthful experience to embrace what was actually happening,” she says, noting that Clooney thought it was “much more interesting to embrace [her] pregnancy, and not run away from it.”

“And [to] make it part of the story,” she continues. “And so, that definitely made my life much easier rather than… walking around hoping no one notices that I’m pregnant.”

Oyelowo, who plays Commander Gordon Adewale, a fellow astronaut and Sully’s partner, agrees, adding that both he and Felicity “are testament to George Clooney’s embrace of the people who he invites to work with him.”

“He embraced Felicity’s pregnancy, which was not in the script,” says Oyelowo. “[And] me asking him if I could change my character’s name to a Nigerian name because he was originally Commander Harper, not Commander Adewale.”

Oyelowo says having that representation was extremely important to him.

“I wanted to be able to depict someone of African descent who was being part of that in relation to this film, because I knew how much pride that would fill me with, how much I would have loved to have seen that in films in the past,” he says. “And how much that would speak to Africans and just people of color all over the planet to see that level of contribution depicted in this film.”

The Midnight Sky is available on Netflix.

Lori Loughlin released from prison after nearly 2 months

No Comments Entertainment News

JOSEPH PREZIOSO/AFP via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Lori Loughlin has been released from prison after serving nearly two months for her role in the so-called “Varsity Blues” college admissions scandal.

The actress, who surrendered to authorities at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California, on Oct. 30, left the prison on Monday morning.

Loughlin, 56, and her husband, 57-year-old fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy charges after they were accused of paying $500,000 to get their two daughters into the University of Southern California as crew recruits. However, neither Isabella Rose Giannulli, now 22, nor Olivia Jade Giannulli, now 21, had ever rowed competitively.

Giannulli began serving his five-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution, Lompoc, in Southern California on Nov. 19. He’s scheduled for release in April.

Federal prosecutors in Boston, who charged the couple, declined to comment.

Olivia Jade Giannulli told “Red Table Talk” hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris earlier this month that although her parents were trying to give their children opportunities that evaded them, they now recognize the enormity of their mistakes. Noting that she believed she was working with a legitimate college counselor at the time, she added, “I don’t deserve pity. We messed up.”

“I took my privilege and all my blessings for granted and I never thought anything of it,” Olivia Jade Giannulli said. “That’s what really rocked me. I was like, ‘This is wrong. You need to talk about this. You need to do it publicly because the situation was public, and then you need to move forward and do better.'”

Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli weren’t the only two celebrities to be implicated in the scandal. Actress Felicity Huffman served 11 days in prison last year for her involvement.

Clay Enos/ ™ & © DC Comics(LOS ANGELES) — Wonder Woman 1984 topped the U.S. box office with an estimated $16.7 million — far below the $100 million-plus its predecessor earned in 2017, but enough to make it the best debut for a movie in the COVID-19 era.

The sequel, which landed at the international box office weeks ago, tacked on an estimated $19.4 million overseas, to bring its worldwide haul to $85 million.

As a result of Wonder Woman 1984‘s success, Warner Bros. announced on Sunday that it has fast-tracked a threequel, with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot respectively attached to write and star.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group said in a statement obtained by Deadline.

Wonder Woman 1984, also starring Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen, simultaneously debuted on HBO Max, which reports it was viewed by “nearly half of the platform’s retail subscribers viewing the film on the day of its arrival, along with millions of wholesale subscribers who have access to HBO Max via a cable, wireless, or other partner services.”

HBO Max also saw the total viewing hours on Friday more than triple in comparison to a typical day in the previous month,” according to the statement.

Patrick Harbron/CBS ©2020 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.(NEW YORK) — Tom Selleck is doing his part to spread the spirit of giving this year.

Honoring the #2020TipChallenge his Blue Bloods co-star Donnie Wahlberg previously participated in, the actor left a $2,020 tip on a $204.68 bill for restaurant staff at Elios on the Upper East Side in New York City.

“I found out that my TV Dad #TomSelleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side! Love ya dad,” Wahlberg tweeted, along with a photo of Selleck’s receipt and his note to the staff.

“I didn’t start [the challenge] but I’m proud to be part of it,” Wahlberg added. “To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU.”

Wahlberg tells People that Selleck dined at the restaurant in November, but kept the gesture a secret. “Tom never mentioned it to me,” he says. “We’ve done three [Blue Bloods] dinner scenes since he did it and he never told me.”

Wahlberg and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, previously left a $2,020 tip for an IHOP server in their hometown of St. Charles, Illinois back in January. Wahlberg did it again in November, leaving a $2,020 tip on a $35.27 bill for his server at Marshland restaurant in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
