Michael C. Hall sees 'Dexter' revival as a chance to redeem "unsatisfying" finale

No Comments Entertainment News

Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — When Showtime’s avenging serial killer hit Dexter left the airwaves in 2013, it joined the infamous ranks of beloved shows whose fans saw its swan-song become more of a swan dive, according to some fans.

One of those apparently not thrilled with how things wrapped up was its lead, actor and musician Michael C. Hall, who is happy Showtime has decided to revive it as a limited series.

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Hall explained, “[P]eople found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling. I include myself in the group of people that wondered, ‘What the hell happened to that guy?’ So I’m excited to step back into it.”

Hall further says the idea of continuing Dexter’s story has sprung up from time to time in the years since the finale, but notes, “I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn’t…”

Incidentally, Hall was also on one of the rare shows that managed to stick the landing, HBO’s Six Feet Under, which ended in 2005 after five seasons.

“Talking about broad spectrums.  I’ve dabbled in the extremes of ‘extremely satisfying’ and ‘extremely dissatisfying’ television finales,” Hall quipped.

He added, “We certainly do live in an era where the bar is very high as far as the simultaneous surprise, satisfaction, and closure that should go along with a series finale.”

The new Dexter series is slated to debut in the fall of 2021.

Michael Chiklis on longevity in Hollywood, and how COVID-19 took a bite out of his new show 'Coyote'

No Comments Entertainment News

Steve Iervolino/ABC News(NEW YORK) — (NOTE LANGUAGE) Michael Chiklis has been around the block in Hollywood. He first came to attention with his hit NBC show The Commish back in 1991, and then later found fame via his Emmy-winning portrayal of dirty cop Vic Mackey in FX’s acclaimed drama The Shield

On Thursday, he’s back again, as the star and co-executive producer of Coyote, a new drama on CBS All Access. In the show, he plays a retired U.S. Border Patrol agent who is forced to smuggle the pregnant girlfriend of a Mexican drug lord across the border and keep her safe.

Shot on location in and around the real-life border between the two countries, all six episodes of the series drop on the streaming service on Thursday.

“We were supposed to be a 10-show first season, but because of COVID-19, we were we were waylaid and we were stopped in the middle of shooting the seventh episode,” Chiklis lamented to ABC Audio.  “But we can’t wait to get back down there and continue shooting this incredible journey.”

As for his decades-long career in front of the camera, Chiklis had to laugh.

“What’s been happening lately is I’ve been having these like grown-a** men come up to me, you know, with grown children next to them and going like, ‘Oh, Mr. Chiklis, I grew up watching you,'” he tells ABC Audio. “And I’m [wincing].'”

“I don’t know…I want that to be a compliment, but you’re like an old person now,” he recalls thinking. Then he laughs, adding, “But hey, man, I’m grateful I’m still here.”

Oral surgeon celebrates getting his COVID-19 vaccine by singing 'Frozen' song

iStock/MarsBars(MARYLAND) — With some predicting a “Roaring ’20s” return when COVID-19 is behind us, an oral surgeon in Chevy Chase, Maryland is celebrating the little things he’ll be able to do after getting his vaccine.

Dr. Jared Abel waited until his scheduled vaccination day to take to Facebook to sing a COVID-19-inspired version of Frozen‘s “For the First Time in Forever,” but listing the things we’ll all be able to do after he — and everybody else — gets inoculated.

“For the first time in forever/I’ll be going out at night!” he sings. “For the first time in forever/I’ll have to use a comb.”

Although Americans are currently getting the vaccine, when it comes to COVID-19, it will take some time before we can, eh, let it go, Abel cautions.

“We still gonna have to wait/but eventually we’ll be able to congregate!” he sings triumphantly.

Frozen is owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News.

Drew Barrymore says a man she met on celebrity dating app stood her up on first date

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Empire State Realty Trust(LOS ANGELES) — Online dating can be a hassle, just ask Drew Barrymore.  The mom of two revealed she waded back into the world of dating, but has yet to find success.  In fact, one bad date left her feeling humiliated.

Speaking recently on The Drew Barrymore Show with comedian Nikki Glaser, the actress confessed she joined a celebrity dating website “where every guy was a surfer, a photographer, had a dog… like a cookie cutter,” which meant she did a lot of swiping.

“I booked a date with one guy, like finally,” the 50 First Dates star revealed, but said the potential love connection was doomed from the start. “He stood me up at the exact time we were supposed to meet!”

Although her ego was bruised, Barrymore said she brushed off the slight and huffed, “I was like, ‘Can’t you be a jerk like an hour before?’ That would have been such a time saver!”

“I know that happens all the time.  I was more miffed that it was at 3 o’ clock,” the 45-year-old continued. “I felt so stupid.”

The two women tore into so-called celebrity dating apps, with Glaser joking that she refers to them as “DJs jumping off of yachts.”

Barrymore enthusiastically agreed, adding, “There are, like, big, high-powered men and of course I didn’t go for any of those.”

The actress also revealed a little about the man she was supposed to meet up with, revealing, “I was like, ‘Oh!  The comedy writer.  That sounds fun!'”

When Glaser proposed that the potential date was intimidated of Barrymore’s status, the actress corrected, “I think he’s just an uncourteous person.”

The Emmy Award nominee then advised the audience to never make excuses for a rude date, saying, “We gotta face the facts.”

Gwyneth Paltrow says her teenage son is having a hard time adjusting to quarantine

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC(LOS ANGELES) — With children learning virtually at home and unable to physically see their friends, some are struggling to adjust to the new normal.  Gwyneth Paltrow admits that her teenage kids are no different.

Appearing recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Paltrow opened up about how the pandemic has affected her children and revealed that her 14-year-old son, Moses, is “having the hardest time.”

“What’s great is that he’s a skateboarder, so he can do a lot of solo, outside exercise and work on skills and tricks and stuff like that, but I think it’s very hard to be 14,” the 48-year-old actress explained.

“It’s tough on the ones that are still in the most intense developmental stages, I sort of observe,” Paltrow furthered. “My son would have started high school in September. I think it’s hard socially.”

As for the Oscar Award-winner’s 16-year-old daughter, Apple, she says things have been a little easier.

“She kind of knows who she is and she’s got her friends,” said Paltrow.

Host Jimmy Kimmel expressed sympathy for Moses, reflecting on what life was like for him when he was 14.

“I wasn’t going anywhere anyway, really,” he joked, but admitted he’d always hang out at his friend’s house and “make crank calls” — an activity he knows wouldn’t fly in this day and age.

Overall, Paltrow says she appreciates how children have been able to adapt to the challenges brought on by the pandemic, telling Jimmy, “I’ve also been amazed how adaptable kids are during this time and how agile they’ve been.  Hats off to all these kids around the world who are just getting through it.”

Paltrow shares Moses and Apple with ex-husband Chris Martin.
