Marvel President confirms a CG Chadwick Boseman won't be used in 'Black Panther 2'

No Comments Entertainment News

Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — When Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died after a silent battle with colon cancer over the summer, the future of the franchise was brought into question. The main question was: how can Black Panther‘s story continue without T’Challa?

Marvel President Kevin Feige spoke with Deadline on Sunday to clear the air about a few rumors swirling around the Oscar-nominated movie’s sequel.  According to the Marvel Boss, Black Panther‘s story doesn’t revolve around one person, it explores his home and the people who live there.

“So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story,” said Feige when asked what will happen to Boseman’s titular character.  “We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa.”

“Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda,” furthered Feige.  “There’s also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well.”

While details about Black Panther 2 are still very scarce, it was previously announced that the sequel film will premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.

''Wonder Woman 1984' continues its reign at #1 with $3 million weekend

No Comments Entertainment News

© 2020 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — Wonder Woman 1984 topped the box office for the third straight week, delivering an estimated $3 million. That brings its North American total to $32 million.

Overseas, Wonder Woman 1984 tacked on an estimated $4.7 million, bringing its worldwide total to $131 million.

While those numbers mark a COVID-19-era best at the box office, it’s highly unlikely they’ll make up for the film’s $200 million production budget.  In spite of that, Warner Bros. is already planning a third installment, with star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins already on board.

In second place, The Croods: A New Age earned an estimated $1.8 million in its seventh week of release, bringing its tally here in the states to $36.8 million.  Internationally, The Croods sequel added an estimated $5.1 million, bringing its global haul to $90 million.

News of the World, the Tom Hanks-led Western drama, took third place with an estimated $1.2 million.

The thriller Monster Hunter, in its fourth week of release, landed in fourth place, earning an estimated $1.1 million.

Fatale, the psychological thriller starring Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy, rounded out the top five with an estimated $670,000 in its fourth weekend of release.

Disney and Pixar’s Soul, which skipped a U.S. theatrical release in favor of a debut on Disney+, collected an estimated $8.9 million from 11 foreign countries, raising its overseas total to $47.3 million.

Sarah Jessica Parker confirms the ladies of 'Sex and the City' are back for a revival

No Comments Entertainment News

James Devaney/WireImage(NEW YORK) — Fans of Sex and the City are rejoicing because, after years of rumors and petitions, the beloved HBO series is being revived for the small screen.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who starred as the series’ lead Carrie Bradshaw, confirmed the good news on Sunday in a mysterious Instagram video.

The clip features shots of New York City as “And just like that… the story continues,” is typed out on a computer screen.

I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?,” the 55-year-old actress cheekily teased in the caption, confirming that the revival, which she referred to the series as “#SATCNextChapter,” will be heading to the streaming service HBO Max.

Cynthia Nixon, who played Parker’s on-screen best friend Miranda Hobbes, shared the same trailer to her Instagram and wrote, “You, me, New York…anything is possible.”

Kristin Davis, who played the optimistic dreamer Charlotte York, teased when sharing the promo to her social media, “Anything is possible…. Meet you there!”

Parker excitedly commented on their respective posts about how excited she is to be acting alongside them once more.

Sex and the City ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004 for six seasons, winning four Daytime Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globe Awards during its run.

A spinoff series, The Carrie Diaries, ran from 2013 to 2014 on The CW.

The series was also green lit for two movies, 2008’s Sex and the City and 2010’s Sex and the City 2.  A third film was rumored, but the film was cancelled because the show’s fourth star — Kim Cattrall who played the promiscuous Samantha Jones — did not want to reprise her role.

Cattrall also did not share the teaser video on Sunday, seemingly confirming reports that her time with the franchise has come to an end.

Roy Rochlin/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Michael Apted, who directed the decades-long Seven Up documentary series, as well as mainstream Hollywood films like Coal Miner’s Daughter and Gorillas in the Mist, has died, according to the Directors Guild of America.

The filmmaker, who was 79, died Thursday night according to a statement from DGA president Thomas Schlamme.

Apted’s filmography included comedies like Continental Divide with John Belushi, to the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, to TV shows like Ray Donovan.

In a statement, Schlamme said Apted’s “legacy will be forever woven into the fabric of cinema…Michael’s search for the truth and what’s right was evident in all that he endeavored.” Schlamme, who produced and directed shows like The West Wing and Sports Night, closed with, “Words can’t express how much he will be missed.”

Other filmmakers were quick to memorialize Apted, including Traffic Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh, who said, “I spent countless hours literally two feet from Michael and loved every minute of it. Apart from his own remarkable body of work, what he gave to the DGA can’t be measured; he put his entire BEING into the Guild, and inspired us all to follow his example. We were lucky to have him and to know him.”
