"We tried!" David Alan Grier on why there was never an 'In Living Color' reunion

No Comments Entertainment News

SAEED ADYANI/NETFLIX © 2020(LOS ANGELES) — David Alan Grier reunites with his former In Living Color cast mate, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, in the Netflix sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! on April 15.

Grier tells Entertainment Tonight of the reunion, “I never thought it would take 30 years, and I never thought it would be this show.”

Instead, Grier said when he got a call from Foxx, his mind went to the big screen. “I was like, ‘Here it comes! ‘Cause we’re about to do Django 2, baby! I’m getting that Oscar, here we go!” Grier laughs.

“And Jamie said, ‘I wanna do this sitcom, I want you to play my dad,’ Grier says, feigning disappointment. “And I said, ‘OK.'”

Speaking of Living Color and reunions, ET‘s Kevin Frazier asked why the cast of the influential sketch comedy show never got back together for a special.

“We tried. We tried!” Grier revealed. “But they had a new cast, so that was the first complication. And they they said ‘Well, maybe we can try to mix the old with the new…’ and it never got further than that.”

Virginia Sherwood/NBC(NEW YORK) — (SPOILER ALERT) Christopher Meloni’s return to the Law & Order family in the Law & Order: SVU crossover-event that launched his new show, Law & Order: Organized crime, scored big ratings for NBC Thursday night.

The long-anticipated reunion of Meloni’s Elliot Stabler and his former partner, Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson attracted an average live — meaning not on DVR — audience of 7.6 million, according to Nielsen numbers quoted by Variety

The viewership was nearly double the usual audience for SVU. The crossover began during SVU’s 9 p.m. time slot, then led into the 10 p.m. hour with L&O: OC

Meloni left the series in 2011 after walking the SVU beat for 12 seasons. According to Thursday night’s episodes, his Elliot Stabler up and left without a word to Benson, and moved with his family to Italy, where he was working as a liaison between the NYPD and Italian cops.

Stabler’s return to New York City, which was a surprise to Liv, was meant to be for a vacation with his family while he secretly worked connections to an overseas organized crime case. But his world was turned upside down when his wife was killed in Manhattan by a car bomb meant for him.

Stabler decides to make his stay permanent, and helps to set up an organized crime task force so that he can nab the crime boss who got his wife killed.

The long-awaited 'Friends' reunion finally getting underway

No Comments Entertainment News

Warner Bros. Television(LOS ANGELES) — The long-delayed meet-up of Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica, Phoebe, and Rachel is finally getting underway.

The Friends reunion special, which was delayed multiple times because of the COVID-19 pandemic, starts shooting next week, according to Deadline

The cast, which was once the highest-paid ensemble on TV, will continue the trend with the reunion: David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc will reportedly make upward $4 million each for the HBO Max project.

The largely unscripted special will shoot on the same sound stage as the beloved original sitcom, Warner Bros. Stage 24 lot in Burbank, according to Deadline. However, while things will be the same behind the scenes, it won’t be the same show, the cast has hinted.

In a chat with Variety last June, Kudrow noted, “I will not be Phoebe,” to which Aniston added, “I will not be Rachel, although I kind of am. Well, we’re all sort of little fragments of them…. not really. But yeah.”

Could we be any more confused?
