'WandaVision' producer Jac Schaeffer teases "more surprises and more conflict" ahead

No Comments Entertainment News

Disney+/Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — After last week’s WandaVision episode left the audience with more questions than answers, series creator Jac Schaeffer teased even more exciting developments are on the way.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight ahead of Friday’s new episode, Schaeffer explained why certain Marvel Cinematic Universe characters were brought back for the new Disney+ show — namely Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis from Thor.

For Darcy, who last appeared in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, Schaeffer explained, “It was really important to us that we show that eight years is a long time and she has accomplished a lot and is a different person.”

Schaeffer furthered that Darcy, who now has a PhD, is considered “an expert” inside the MCU but lamented, “There were a lot of ideas that didn’t make it into the show.”

The showrunner also explained why the series killed off Captain Marvel‘s Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) — a decision, he says, was not made “lightly.”

“Our priority was introducing Monica (Teyonah Parris,)” explained Schaeffer.  Parris plays Monica Rambeau, Maria’s daughter, who is introduced by coming back from Thanos’ snap and learning that her mother died of cancer while she was “blipped.”

“We learned so much about Monica and what she’s dealing with in that cold open,” he described. “It was a big decision. We had a lot of conversations, and Maria and Lashana, the actor, were so important in Captain Marvel and such a tremendous character. We did not make that decision lightly.”

As for what’s to come, Schaeffer teased, “There are more surprises and more conflict to see.”

“Wanda and Vision’s journey and the other characters get more complex as we move forward,” he added.  “We will answer all the things that need to be answered.”

WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, updates every Friday on Disney+.

Former President Donald Trump quits Screen Actors Guild ahead of a possible ouster

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/ Ida Mae Astute(LOS ANGELES) — Before he was president, Donald Trump was a fixture on TV and made the occasional movie cameo, and as such was a card-carrying member of the showbiz performers union SAG-AFTRA.

However, that is no more.

Trump quit the organization Thursday, after SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and National Executive Director David White on January 19 announced a disciplinary hearing against him over what the organization claims was “Trump’s role in inciting the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6,” and in “sustaining a reckless campaign of misinformation aimed at…journalists, many of whom are SAG-AFTRA members.”

In his resignation letter from the union, former President Trump said, “I write to you today regarding the so-called Disciplinary Committee hearing aimed at revoking my union membership. Who cares!”

He added of the SAG-AFTRA heads, “While I’m not familiar with your work, I’m very proud of my work on movies such as Home Alone 2Zoolander and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; and television shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Live, and of course, one of the most successful shows in television history, The Apprentice – to name just a few!”

Trump called the announcement of the disciplinary action a “blatant attempt at free media attention to distract from your dismal record as a union.”

He commented, “Your organization has done little for its members, and nothing for me – besides collecting dues and promoting dangerous un-American policies and ideas – as evident by your massive unemployment rates and lawsuits from celebrated actors, who even recorded a video asking, ‘Why isn’t the union fighting for me?'”

Trump closed with, “I no longer wish to be associated with your union…You have done nothing for me.”

In response, Cateris and White replied only, “Thank you.”

'The Little Things' Golden Globe and SAG Award nominee Jared Leto is "sworn to secrecy" about new 'Justice League' cut

No Comments Entertainment News

Warner Bros. Entertainment/HBO Max(LOS ANGELES) — Oscar winner Jared Leto’s awards buzz is growing with a brand-new Screen Actors Guild nod.

Leto was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category, thanks to his role in the film The Little Things, in which he stars opposite two other Academy Award winners, Denzel Washington and Rami Malek.

Leto’s performance was also recognized earlier this week with a nomination for the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe.

The Little Things, premiered last Friday both in theaters and on HBO Max, and topped the box office over the weekend.

In addition to all the award nominations, Leto’s been making headlines this week after director Zack Snyder teased the actor/musician’s return as the Joker in the upcoming so-called “Snyder Cut” of the 2017 film Justice League. In an interview with Variety, Leto says he’s “sworn to secrecy” about the project.

“He’s an incredible filmmaker and I love his work,” Leto says of Snyder. “It was cool to have the opportunity to collaborate with him. He’s got a crazy, infectious energy. I love his passion and commitment to what he does.”

Leto previously played the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad; his mostly-deleted appearance in that film, and absence from the theatrical cut of Justice League disappointed many fans.

Incidentally, Diane Lane was similarly tight-lipped about the Snyder Cut, though the actress, who plays Superman/Clark Kent’s adoptive mom Martha, admitted to ABC Audio that she thought the fans enthusiasm that spawned the re-cut was “Fantastic.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League premieres March 18 on HBO Max.
