Brothers Osborne’s TJ Osborne comes out, becoming first openly gay country artist ever signed to a major label

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/Image Group LAT.J. Osborne, one half of sibling duo Brothers Osborne, has publicly discussed being gay for the first time.

“There are times when I think I’ve marginalized this part of me so that I feel better about it…and I realize that it is a big part of who I am: The way I think, the way I act, the way I perform,” he explains in a new interview with TIME. “God, think about all the times that we talk about love, and write about love. It’s the biggest thing we ever get to feel. And I’ve kept the veil on.”

T.J.’s coming out marks a historic moment for the genre, as he is now the first openly gay artist ever to be signed to a major country label.

“You know that thing — stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything? That sounds like something someone in country music would say. But if you stand for something and it’s not what they stand for, then they hate it,” the singer adds.

T.J.’s brother and band mate, John Osborne, also voices his support for his brother in the new interview, saying that T.J.’s happiness and ability to live authentically is more important than any career milestone.

“If I had to have all my money and success erased for my brother to be truly fulfilled in life, I wouldn’t even think about it,” he declares. “Not for a second.”

On Wednesday, T.J. took to Instagram to speak to his fans directly. “I’m very proud to put this out there. I wanted to let you all know that have gotten to know me over the years that the person you know is me, and now you just know more about me,” he declares in a video.

He adds that coming out will help him be more transparent and authentic in all aspects of his music and life. “I know it’s gonna help my relationship with my fans, with my family, and honestly, it’s gonna help my relationship with myself,” T.J. says.

Brothers Osborne’s most recent studio album, Skeletons, came out in October 2020. It features lead single “All Night.”

Morgan Wallen apologizes for shouting N-word and other racial slurs while partying

No Comments Country Music News

Jason Kempin/ACMA2020/Getty Images for ACMCountry singer Morgan Wallen is profusely apologizing for hurling racial slurs while partying with friends.  A video of the “Dangerous” singer shouting the vulgarities were obtained by TMZ on Tuesday.

Wallen has since apologized for the language and released a statement to Entertainment Tonight that read, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Even after issuing an apology, the fallout was swift as some of Wallen’s fellow country singers called out his behavior — most notably Black country singer Mickey Guyton.

Guyton, who became first Black woman to be nominated for a country Grammy this year, lamented that this isn’t the first time Wallen was caught saying the N-word in public.

“The hate runs deep,” the 37-year-old singer remarked when responding to the now-viral clip on Twitter, adding that it makes her shake her head.

In another tweet, Guyton pointed out, “This is not his first time using that ‘unacceptable’ racial slur and we all known that. So what exactly are y’all going to do about it. Crickets won’t work this time.”

In a follow up statement, the “Black Like Me” singer marveled that Wallen continues to engage in inappropriate behavior, furthering, “How many passes will you continue to give? Asking for a friend. No one deserves to be canceled [but] this is unacceptable.

Guyton also called out Wallen’s fans who are defending his actions and inferred that they are enabling his racist behavior.

Thomas Rhett's Dos Primos Tequila is a labor of love for two cousins

No Comments Country Music News

Dos Primos Tequila Company/LuxcoFor Thomas Rhett, his new Dos Primos Tequila is basically an exercise in togetherness with one of his favorite people, his cousin Jeff Worn

“Jeff and I are obviously third cousins, but we’ve grown up like brothers pretty much,” TR points out. “And honestly, we’re best friends.”

“But we’ve been trying to get our families together a lot,” Thomas continues, “because it’s easy for us to kind of grow apart, because Jeff lives in Valdosta [Georgia]. I live in Nashville. I’ve got three kids. He’s got three kids. We always try to go to Telluride, Colorado, every year to ski with each other.”

It was on one of those annual trips where the pair’s tequila dreams were born.

“About three-and-a-half years ago, we were skiing, and Jeff and I went out to a restaurant and were just trying a bunch of different tequilas,” Thomas Rhett recalls. “Our waitress kept bringing us different types to try.”

“And when me and Jeff get into anything,” TR explains, “we go in head over heels on it, whether it’s hunting or fishing or anything outdoors, like we go hard in the paint on it.”

“And so we woke up the next morning,” he goes on, “got on a ski lift — and we’ve been talking about developing a company together. We didn’t know what it was gonna be. And we looked to each other, and we were like, ‘Dude, I have no idea what this means, but let’s start a tequila company.'”

Appropriately, Dos Primos is Spanish for “two cousins.” You can visit DosPrimosTequila.com to find out more.

Meanwhile, TR’s must career continues going strong, as “What’s Your Country Song” is already in the top ten, even though it’s only been out since November.
