Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' makes country music history on Billboard 200

No Comments Country Music News

Ed Rode/Getty Images for CMTEmbattled country artist Morgan Wallen shattered a Billboard chart record.  With his sophomore effort Dangerous: The Double Album notching its seventh consecutive week atop the Billboard 200, his album is the only country outing to spend its first seven weeks at number one.

Wallen’s album continues to enjoy robust sales despite the ongoing controversy where the young singer was filmed shouting racial epithets during a party.

Dangerous was streamed an additional 110.7 million times the previous week and sold an additional 7,000 albums, which is 31 percent down from the previous chart.

With those numbers, the album is officially the first country album to notch seven consecutive weeks at number one — but it is not the only other country effort to spend seven weeks, albeit non-consecutively, at the top spot.

Garth Brooks’ EP, The Chase went to the top in 1992.  Other acts include Billy Ray CyrusTaylor Swift and The Eagles.

Country music aside, Wallen accomplishes a feat not seen in almost five years.  The last album to spend seven consecutive weeks at number one was Drake‘s Views, which reigned supreme in 2016 — spending nine weeks total at the top.

When looking at non-consecutive wins, only one other album notched at least seven weeks at number one since 2016 — which is Taylor Swift‘s Folklore

Wallen’s controversy has proven to have no effect on his music’s success, even though he was swiftly condemned by his fellow country artists after a video surfaced of him last month hurling racial slurs.  Big Loud Records and WME have since dropped him as a client.

Wallen has since addressed and apologized for the video in a lengthy video message, in which he instructed his fans to stop defending his actions and admitted he was in the wrong.

Miranda Lambert's having "so much fun" "Settling Down" with "video babe" Brendan McLoughlin

No Comments Country Music News

Ellen von UnwerthSince Miranda Lambert‘s latest hit is titled “Settling Down,” it’s fairly obvious the Wildcard track grew out of her romance with her husband, Brendan McLoughlin.

But the country superstar reveals the sentiment in the song only intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What inspired the song ‘Settling Down’ was really falling in love with my husband,” she explains. “You know, I’ve got this traveling bone that keeps me on the road, and I love what I do, and I love to go camping and take my Airstream around the country.”

“And so falling in love and sort of realizing in 2020 that I was nesting a little more than I ever have been able to,” she continues, “‘Settling Down’ couldn’t resonate more with me than at a time like that.”

Miranda has previously encouraged the former New York City policeman to show off his physique on her social media, and the tune’s music video proved to be another chance for him to step into the spotlight.

“The video for ‘Settling Down’ was so much fun,” she reflects. “I got to share a whole day with my husband Brendan being my love interest in the video, and just our real life at my farm. So I got to ride my horses and shoot it in our cabin that we had sort of spent all of 2020 in.”

“You know, Brendan, it was his debut of being a video babe, and he killed it,” she adds. “He did such a great job.”

Miranda just released her new collaboration with Elle King“Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” on Friday.

Keith Urban explains the bizarre opera incident that resulted in Nicole Kidman being “whacked” with a program

ABC/Image Group LABack in January, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman got into a scuffle at the Sydney Opera House, where they went to see a performance of “The Merry Widow.”

At the time, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that police were called to the scene after an argument between two men broke out, one of whom was none other than Keith.

It seemed that Keith and Nicole had given a standing ovation to the performance, unaware that doing so goes against opera tradition. A miffed audience member behind them then reached out and hit Nicole with his program, angering both members of the superstar couple.

Now, during an appearance on “The Kyle and Jackie O Show” for a radio interview in his home country of Australia, Keith addressed the incident.

“We didn’t know you’re not supposed to stand in the opera,” confessed the country star (quote via TODAY,) going on to say the show they were watching moved him, and a few other viewers, to a standing ovation.

“And I stood up, and then this guy behind me just, like, whacked — not me, Nic. Just, like, really hit her with a program,” Keith recounted.

“Violence at the opera ensued,” the singer joked. “It was a bit of a pickle that I was in, because you know, you’re a husband, you want to defend your wife, but I’m like, ‘What the hell?’ It took a lot of restraint.”

Fortunately, the two men didn’t ultimately come to blows, but Keith and Nicole’s security team swiftly escorted the family out of the audience. Despite the drama, the pair posed for a picture with the show’s star, Virgilio Marino, according to a post on Marino’s social media.

“Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home)”: Miranda Lambert + Elle King team up for a dizzying new party anthem

No Comments Country Music News

Sony Music Nashville/RCA RecordsOne-time tourmates Miranda Lambert and Elle King join forces once again for the genre-bending party banger, “Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” a song based on their real-life friendship and big, wild personalities.

“I think this fun song was born of our becoming friends over the last couple of years,” remarks Miranda. “We are new friends but it really feels like we are old friends, and I felt like that immediately when I met her at one of her shows.”

Adds Elle, “The true story of this song sums up our wild friendship. Miranda is someone I have looked up to as a songwriter, musician, performer and human being for a long time. So our tumbleweed snowball story of getting to know each other is the ultimate real deal kinda thing.”

The two stars paired their new duet with a music video, also out today. The clip finds Miranda and Elle as a badly-behaved bridesmaid and bride, respectively, at an over-the-top ‘80s wedding, featuring high hairstyles and even higher shoulder pads.

Miranda previously included Elle on her ACM Award-winning “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” cover, which also includes tour mates Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes and Caylee Hammack.

Speaking of the ACMs, “Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” arrived on the same day that the 2021 nominees were announced. Miranda held onto her record as the most-nominated artist in ACM history, picking up five mentions at the upcoming awards show.
