ABCAs Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd prepare for their son Hayes‘ first birthday, the couple is centering the theme around a classic childhood book that holds special meaning to them.
The crossover country star reveals that they plan to host a party set on Beatrix Potter‘s classic book, Peter Rabbit. “That’s the book I read to him since he was a newborn,” Maren shares withPeople.
She also says that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the gathering will be kept to an intimate gathering with family. “Obviously, we’re going to have a very just a family-oriented party, we can’t do the full invitation thing, but we’re going to have a theme,” Maren says.
Though he’s still in the crawling stages, Maren says that Hayes is “so close” to walking. “But I’m not in any rush on that, either, because I’ll be chasing him around even more,” she adds. “He’s just perfection.”
Maren and Ryan welcomed Hayes on March 23, 2020. The couple recently released the duet, “Chasing After You.”

Amy Sussman/Getty Images for Warner MusicGwen Stefani never imagined herself in the realm of country music, but she’s thankful to be a part of the genre.
During a virtual interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gwen reflects on the transition from her days in pop-rock band No Doubt to having two #1 songs on the country charts with fiancé Blake Shelton with “Nobody but You” and “Happy Anywhere.”
“I would’ve never imagined that,” she says with genuine surprise. “It’s so far out there that it’s hard to even remember my other life back then.”
The crossover star also shares her admiration for the storytelling aspect of the genre that she connects to as a songwriter, penning several of No Doubt’s songs as well as her solo hits “Hollaback Girl” and “Cool,” along with current single “Slow Clap.”
“Being opened up to the country music genre has been really cool because I feel like what makes me feel good about myself is my songwriting, that’s what makes me feel like I’m actually contributing to the world, and some of the songwriting in country music is just masterful. It’s storytelling,” she explains, adding that “the story’s getting across, the heart is getting across and the message.”
“I just learned a lot and I’m so happy to be opened up to the whole genre,” Gwen says.
The couple has been spending much of their time during the COVID-19 pandemic at their ranch in Oklahoma, where Blake proposed to Gwen in October 2020.
Cody HeckberParmalee and Blanco Brown‘s collaborative single, “Just the Way,” has reached #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
This marks Blanco’s first #1 single on country radio and Paramalee’s second, following their 2013 hit, “Carolina.” The group had a follow-up top-five hit with “Close Your Eyes” in 2014.
“Having ‘Just the Way’ go #1 is amazing! As an artist or writer, all you can hope for is that your music connects with people and makes them feel something,” says Parmalee frontman and “Just the Way” co-writer Matt Thomas. “We’re proud to be a part of something that has been able to spread positivity throughout the world, especially over the past year.”
The news arrives as Blanco continues to recover from a motorcycle accident in September 2020 that nearly took his life, writing in a celebratory Instagram post, “I’m just happy to be alive to receive this moment!!!!”
“I have to thank my Parmalee boys for believing in me, supporting me and allowing me to share my purpose with them — it’s been quite the journey but we did it, boys!!!” he continues in a statement. “This song and this message going #1 is another beautiful blessing, I am so grateful to all of you that helped lead me to this incredible moment.”
Blanco previously topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with his breakthrough hit, “The Git Up,” in 2019, which also crossed over into the top 20 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
