(ASHBURN, Va.) — The NFL’s Washington, D.C., franchise has decided on a new name — at least for now.

The team announced Thursday that, effective immediately, the organization will call itself the “Washington Football Team,” sources told ESPN. The change comes after the team’s July 13 announcement that Washington would retire the Redskins name and logo in light of the country’s recent sway toward more cultural awareness.

Team owner Dan Snyder, had previously said the team would “never” change its name, and argued that it actually honored Native Americans. Snyder later changed course, saying this month that the organization would consider changing the name “in light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community.”

The Washington Football Team plans to rebrand and retire the former name completely from physical and digital spaces over the next 50 days, ESPN reports. The team will not change the burgundy and gold color scheme, but fans can expect to see the newly-adopted Washington Football Team branding — including new home uniforms — at the Sept. 13 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Washington will debut new road uniforms in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The new Washington moniker will remain in place throughout the 2020 season, though a more permanent change may come after the team gathers feedback from past and current players, as well as sponsors and fans.

Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell to perform on Grand Ole Opry

No Comments Country Music News

Jamie McCarthy/WireImageThree music icons and longtime friends are reuniting on the Grand Ole Opry.

Vince GillEmmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell will join forces on the Opry’s 4,935th show on Saturday, August 1. The singers have crossed paths several times over their multi-decade careers, which includes rotating stints performing on their respective albums and with their bands.

Rodney was a part of Emmylou’s Hot Band in the 1970s after she recorded his song “Bluebird Wine” for her 1975 debut album, Pieces of the Sky. When he later launched his own solo career, Rodney formed his band known as the Cherry Bombs, which Vince became a part of.

The Grammy-winning country star then spent time in Emmylou’s backup band for three of her albums, including 1986’s Thirteen, on which he and Rodney both provided background vocals.

“I don’t have two better friends in the world,” Vince remarks, with Emmylou adding, “There’s nothing better than singing with old and dear friends, especially if those friends happen to be Rodney and Vince.”

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic that has seen an end to large scale in-person events, the Opry has remained on the air each week. Closing its doors to the public in March, the long-running country music show continues to broadcast on Saturday nights with a skeleton crew and artists spaced six feet apart on the stage without an audience present.

You can hear the show each week on WSM and watch it on the Circle TV network.

L-R — Zac Mirabelli and Elizabeth Weber — Colin Young-Wolff/CBS Entertainment ©2019 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.(NEVADA) — The COVID-19 pandemic has chased CBS’ Love Island inland to Las Vegas for its second season, according to Vulture. Production is expected to be up and running by August.

The network says the Vegas locale will remove any difficulty posed by restrictions on international travel due to the virus.

CBS and ITV Entertainment say everyone associated with the show, including the show’s cast and all crew members, will be quarantined prior to the start of production. The cast and crew will also be tested for COVID-19 before and during production, crew members will work in pods to limit interaction between them and social distancing and sanitization protocol will apply.

Love Island is eyeing a late summer launch on CBS.

'The Crown''s fifth season on pause, won't air until 2022

Netflix/Des Willie(LONDON) — Imelda Staunton, announced earlier this year as the successor to Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II seasons five and six of in Netflix’s The Crown, will have to wait until 2022 to take her place on the throne.

Deadline reports production on the show’s fifth season won’t begin until June of next year.

The break in filming has always been been part of the plan, and not COVID-19 related according to the entertainment website, though sources say the hiatus has been “helpfully timed.”

In fact, there was also a two-year gap between seasons two and three of the series, as Claire Foy passed the crown to Colman.

Netflix reversed course a couple of weeks ago by announcing that its award-winning drama wouldn’t end with season five as previously announced.

However, with season five filming in June 2021, cameras won’t begin rolling on the sixth and final season until 2022.

Meanwhile, season four will launch later this year, taking the series into the 1980s — with X-Files veteran Gillian Anderson playing Margaret Thatcher, and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.
