Report: Celebs were asked to "gush over" Ellen

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Allegations of a toxic workplace at The Ellen DeGeneres Show have taken a celebrity turn, with an insider saying two famous guests were directed to “fawn over” the chat show host.

Page Six reports that the two guests, who remain anonymous, were told by producers to, “compliment Ellen, tell her what a big fan you are.”

The source who leaked the info said, “These guests were already fans of Ellen, big fans, but to be told you have to flatter her was really weird. You shouldn’t have to be told … If you do look at past interviews, most of the guests always gush over Ellen — whether they’re members of the public or her close friends.”

The paper was quick to point out that it wasn’t clear if Ellen insisted on the direction.

However, as WarnerMedia wraps up the investigation into the allegations of bullying and racial insensitivity on the show that was prompted by a Buzzfeed expose, one person who worked with Ellen came forward with his own experiences with the show.

Australian TV host Neil Breen worked with the Ellen staff in 2013, when the show shipped off to Australia. Breen claimed that Ellen’s crew were, “walking on eggshells” around her. He claims he was told, “No one is to talk to Ellen. You don’t talk to her, you don’t approach her, you don’t look at her.”

Former Ellen staffers who spoke with Buzzfeed blamed senior producers, and not necessarily Ellen herself, for the toxic work environment.

In an email obtained by ABC News, DeGeneres acknowledged the controversy surrounding the show, saying in part, “I am committed to ensuring this doesn’t happen again.”

For its part, WarnerMedia echoed the sentiment in a statement, announcing that staffing changes were in the offing.

Isaias now a Category 1 hurricane, sets sights for Bahamas, eastern Florida

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBy IVAN PEREIRA, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — The storm has already caused catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides in Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Isaias, which strengthened into a Category 1 storm overnight, will hit the Bahamas Friday with torrential rains and high winds before taking aim at eastern Florida, according to forecasters.

The National Hurricane Center said in its 11 a.m. update that the islands will experience wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour and heavy squalls throughout the day. Four to eight inches of rain is expected to fall in the Bahamas, according to the NHC.

“These rainfall amounts will lead to life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides, as well as river flooding,” the NHC said in an earlier report.

Forecasters predict the storm will travel northwest and arrive in southeast Florida on Saturday and Sunday. The east coast of Florida is under hurricane watch from Deerfield Beach to the Volusia-Brevard County line, according to the NHC.

Parts of the state could see two to four inches of rain with isolated maximum totals of six inches, according to the current forecast.

“These rainfall amounts could result in isolated flash and urban flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas,” the NHC said.

The NHC added that its current models show Isaias strengthening, but the forecast of a possible Category 2 storm was removed. The NHC forecast cone has shifted slightly west, indicating the storm could affect parts of the Carolinas Sunday night into Monday.

The latest forecast track also accounts for some type of transition into a post-tropical or extra-tropical low as it travels up the East Coast.

Florida officials are on high alert and watching the storm closely. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that he has declared a state of emergency in every coastal county on the east side of the state from Miami-Dade to Nassau Counties.

The governor said the state is preparing to create shelters and will activate them depending on the storm’s path. COVID-19 testing sites that are in those counties would be closed, but the governor noted that the ones located on the west side of the state will remain open.

NASA and SpaceX said Friday they decided to move forward with plans to bring astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley home to Earth with a splashdown on Sunday.

Officials in Miami-Dade County announced Thursday that parks and beaches would close in anticipation of the storm.

Isaias already caused tremendous damage to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Mudslides left people and cars stranded in the streets and the storm knocked out power to 400,000 customers across Puerto Rico, according to authorities.

Zac Brown Band invites you to a mental mini-vacation in their breezy new “You and Islands”

No Comments Country Music News

Home Grown MusicWritten and released from quarantine, Zac Brown Band’s newest digital single, “You and Islands,” is a tropical mini-escape.

“Got so much going on / The whole world’s going wrong / I wish that tide could reach us now / And wash away all the gray,” frontman Zac Brown sings in the song’s breezy first verse, as he looks ahead to more carefree days after the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic passes.

“This unprecedented time at home has given us the opportunity to write and share new music with our fans,” Zac explains of the new single. “As we continue to navigate through this together, we hope our music can bring you a little bit of positivity and transport you to a different time or place — even if just for a few minutes.”

“You and Islands” follows the group’s latest single, “The Man Who Loves You the Most,” which is a quarantine-inspired ode to Zac’s four daughters. While that song found the group appreciating the little things about their unexpected downtime with family, “You and Islands” focuses more on a brighter future ahead.

“This was a fun track to record,” Zac adds. “We hope you sing along with us as we daydream about days to come!”
