Re-Upper: Chip and Joanna Gaines rebuilding 'Fixer Upper' for their new TV network

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of Magnolia Network(WACO, TX) — Chip and Joanna Gaines, who have built a lifestyle and home improvement empire based on their hit former HGTV home renovation show Fixer Upper, are rebooting the series for their fledgling TV network.

On their website, Chip noted, “The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed. A bittersweet ending to a season of our lives that we couldn’t have been more grateful for. In that moment, the future was a little uncertain, but Jo and I were sure of a few things. We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath…But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again.”

With that in mind, he says the pair have “continued tackling renovations and projects that we’ve both been passionate about, including a few really special ones that we can’t wait for you to watch unfold on the network when it launches.”

Chip adds, “I’ll be honest, Jo and I feel like a couple of kids trying our best to keep down a few butterflies. But we are mostly just giddy about getting the band back together again so we can share the story of these families and their homes with you.”

The channel, which will feature other DIY shows, is a joint venture between the power tool-wielding power couple and Discovery. It launches in 2021.

ABC/Image Group LAKeith Urban and Luke Combs showed some love to one another on social media alongside Keith’s cover of one of Luke’s hits.

The 2018 CMA Entertainer of the Year took to Instagram to share a sweet acoustic rendition of Luke’s heart-tugging “Even Though I’m Leaving.” Perched in a sunny room with his guitar in hand, Keith delivers a thoughtful performance, singing, “Just ’cause I’m leavin’/It don’t mean that/ I won’t be right by your side.”

“Hey Luke…. how much do ya MISS TOURING ?!!!” Keith beckoned in the caption, to which Luke himself replied with his approval of the cover.

“Holy sh** that sounds great buddy and I miss it A. LOT,” Luke wrote. Morgan Wallen also chimed in, saying, “sounds damn good brother.”

“Even Though I’m Leaving” is the second single off Luke’s wildly successful sophomore album, What You See Is What You Get. It became his seventh consecutive number-one hit when it topped the country charts in 2019.

New York City's health commissioner resigns, criticizing coronavirus handling

(NEW YORK) — Dr. Oxiris Barbot resigned as New York City’s health commissioner, saying in her resignation letter that “the Health Department’s incomparable disease control expertise was not used to the degree it could have been.”

“I leave my post today with deep disappointment that during the most critical public health crisis in our lifetime, that the Health Department’s incomparable disease control expertise was not used to the degree it could have been,” her resignation letter said, taking aim at Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration.

Her replacement was immediately announced as Dr. Dave Chokshi, a Rhodes Scholar who served at the Louisiana Department of Health during Hurricane Katrina and was the principal health adviser to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the Obama administration.

In a letter to her staff announcing her departure, Barbot described her rise to NYC health chief.

“I am proud that as a woman of color raised in public housing in this city, I always put public health, racial equity and the well-being of the city I love first,” she wrote. “My commitment to this city and to public health is unwavering.”

Barbot’s resignation comes after de Blasio stripped control of the city’s COVID-19 contact tracing program from the health department, which has historically handled tracing. The mayor instead placed the program under Health and Hospitals, the agency that runs the city’s public hospitals.

In recent weeks, the city’s contract tracing program has come under fire after complaints from contact tracers about the program being disorganized and having poor working conditions.

Barbot also butted heads with NYPD Police Chief Terence Monahan when he asked for more face masks for his officers in March, according to the New York Post. Following the incident, which was widely reported in the media, Barbot disappeared from public view for days — at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in New York City.
