2 protesters charged for alleged attacks on police during Rochester demonstration

(WASHINGTON) — Two protesters who took part in Saturday night’s protest in Rochester, New York, were charged for allegedly assaulting police officers, federal prosecutors said.

Adam Green, of Dansville, New York, and Dallas Williams-Smothers, of Rochester, both 20, were charged in the Western District of New York with civil disorder for two incidents during Saturday’s demonstration, according to U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. The protesters were part of about 1,500 people who took to the streets in response to the death of Daniel Prude at the hands of officers in March.

The complaints contend that both men used weapons to attack police officers who were trying to disperse the crowd.

Green allegedly swung a wooden shield at a police officer, striking the officer in the forehead of his helmet, according to the criminal complaint. The officer suffered a cut and abrasion on the bridge of his nose, the complaint said.

Williams-Smothers allegedly ignited a “mortar-style commercial-grade firework” and threw it at officers, the complaint said. The device exploded and created a “risk of serious injury to officers,” though no one was hurt, according to the complaint.

The charges came from arrests made by local officers following an aggressive night of protests that stemmed from the release of body camera footage from the March 23 incident between officers and Prude.

Prude’s brother, Joe, called 911 to get help, saying Daniel was having a mental health emergency.

In the video, officers approached Prude, 41, who was naked, and he initially complied with the officers’ orders. Prude was subsequently seen shouting and spitting, which prompted officers to place a spit bag over his head.

The officers are then seen pinning Prude to the ground while the bag is still on his head and he eventually goes lifeless. Prude died a week later.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James is overseeing the investigation into Prude’s death and said she will empanel a grand jury. Seven officers who were involved in the incident have been suspended with pay.

On Tuesday, Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary announced he would retire at the end of the month with six other police leaders announcing they would retire or vacate their positions.

The announcement of charges against two protesters came on the same day the leader of the city’s police union, President Mike Mazzeo, called on Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren to resign. The mayor countered with asking him to step down, saying, “the problem with policing in Rochester are cops like cops like Mike Mazzeo that watch the video of Daniel Prude’s death and see nothing wrong.”

“Mike Mazzeo and his ilk exist only to protect and serve themselves, and certainly not the people of the City of Rochester,” Warren said in a statement. “It is time for Mike Mazzeo to resign, because his archaic ways of policing are no longer wanted in the City of Rochester.”

'Hey World', Lee Brice has got a new album in the works

• No Comments • Country Music News

Curb RecordsIt’s been almost three years since Lee Brice last released an album, but the singer’s got big news to share: This week, he announced his fifth studio album, Hey World, which is due for release on November 20.

The project’s title should sound familiar to fans, since Lee dropped an emotional ballad of that name back in May. Written as a plea for a tumultuous world to stop changing, if only for a second, “Hey World” was penned in March — when the COVID-19 pandemic was just ramping up in the U.S.

“We wrote this song from an introspective, truthful place and probably what most people were actually feeling right now,” Lee explained when he first shared the song.

It’s safe to assume that “Hey World” made its way onto his next album’s track list, but Lee says that after he first released it, he went back and made some exciting additions to the song.

Fans will be able to hear the new version of “Hey World” this Friday, he explained on Twitter, and pop singer-songwriter Blessing Offor will be a guest artist on the track. That same day, Hey World will become available for pre-order.

“Hey World” isn’t the only new track Lee has shared this year. His new single, “One of Them Girls,” is currently a top-five hit.

Dolly Parton expands her chart domination with latest number-one hit, “There Was Jesus”

• No Comments • Country Music News

ABC/Image Group LADolly Parton is back on top of the charts again this week, and this time, she’s making waves on Billboard’s Christian Airplay Chart. Her duet with Zach Williams, “There Was Jesus,” hit the top spot on the chart dated September 12.

That makes Dolly the first artist to have had songs topping five separate Billboard charts: Adult Contemporary, Christian AC Songs, Christian Airplay, Dance/Mix Show Airplay and, of course, Country Airplay.

Dolly’s history with Billboard charts dates all the way back to January 1967, when her “Dumb Blonde” sat at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart. Over her career, she’s earned 25 number-one hits on that chart — more than any other female artist.

“I don’t even hardly know what to say about all the [number-ones] in all the different fields of music,” the singer tells Billboard. “Thank you God, thank you fans and thank you everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible.”

But Dolly added that she’s especially touched to have a Christian Airplay hit right now, during what has been a tumultuous and difficult year.

“Having a [number-one] record at any time is a great thing, but having a [number-one] faith-based record during these crazy times is even greater,” she explains. “I feel humbled and blessed to be a part of this song with Zach Williams. It does my heart good to know that we have touched the lives of so many people.”

Seasons three and four of FX's 'Atlanta' to resume production in 2021

• No Comments • Entertainment News

Guy D’Alema/FX(ATLANTA) — The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has halted yet another award-winning television show: FX’s Atlanta.

Variety reports the series, created by Donald Glover, will resume production for seasons three and four in 2021, according to FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf.

During a virtual press conference, Landgraf praised Glover and “his intrepid team” for being able to finish writing both forthcoming seasons over the last few months. One season will primarily be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia as usual, while the other will be filmed in Europe.

Landgraf said the safety of the cast and crew is their “No. 1 priority,” which includes implementing new procedures, such as testing, social distancing practices, and contact tracing, as well as access to doctors, in response to COVID-19.

It’s been a year and a half since the newest episode of the FX series, which originally aired in 2016. Glover also stars in the series alongside Lakeith Stanfield, Zazie Beetz, and Brian Tyree Henry as rapper Paper Boi navigating Atlanta’s rap scene.

In 2017, Atlanta won a Golden Globe award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography a year later. Comedian Katt Williams received an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his guest appearance on season two.

Other FX series preparing to return to production this fall include Pose, Snowfall, American Horror Story and American Crime Story. Fargo just wrapped production on the final two episodes of its fourth season.
