'What You See Ain't Always What You Get': If Luke Combs is involved, it's probably better

No Comments Country Music News

River House Artists/Columbia NashvilleJust as Luke Combs‘ debut album, This One’s for You, evolved into This One’s for You Too, today his sophomore effort, What You See Is What You Get, expands to become What You See Ain’t Always What You Get.

If you suspect Luke had a plan all along — you’re right.

“Yeah, actually, I did…” he tells ABC Audio. “Once it came time for the second album, I kind of had an idea what I wanted to do. And I wanted to keep that kind of juxtaposing theme of the two albums and being similar, but also being different.”

In fact, it’s part of Luke’s vision to raise the quality of deluxe albums overall.

“I’ve always felt like personally that sometimes a deluxe edition of an album is just songs that…weren’t good enough to make the record,” he confesses. “I would get excited about, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to hear this deluxe edition.’ And then the songs wouldn’t be very good, in my opinion.”

So Luke’s made it his business to change that.

“Why can’t we take the deluxe edition and make it better?” he asks. “Why can’t we write new songs, go in, put the work in…and try to make them even better than the last album?”

It’s one leg of the CMA nominee’s journey toward hopefully one day claiming the Entertainer of the Year trophy.

“I always want to be moving forward, whether that’s musically or as a performer or songwriter or a singer. And so I’m always trying to get better…” Luke explains.

“I think that’s what we’ve done…” he adds. “There’s five songs on there: a couple that I’ve teased to folks, a couple that I’ve played live, and then a couple that nobody has ever heard. So I’m real stoked about it.”

Wisconsin admits 1st patient to field hospital, reports record COVID-19 deaths

(MILWAUKEE) — Wisconsin admitted its first patient to a field hospital in the Wisconsin State Fair Park, near Milwaukee, on Wednesday, the same day that the state reported a record 48 deaths from the novel coronavirus.

The field hospital, a 530-bed facility which opened last week, is meant to relieve pressure on local hospitals, which have been rapidly filling with COVID-19 patients as Wisconsin’s outbreak worsens. In some areas, 90% of ICU beds are full, according to the governor’s office.

“We are thankful to have this facility available to Wisconsinites and our hospitals, but also saddened that this is where Wisconsin is at today,” Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement.

“Folks, please stay home. Help us protect our communities from this highly-contagious virus and avoid further strain on our hospitals.”

In Wisconsin, COVID-19-testing positivity rates, daily new cases and deaths are all climbing, according to ABC News’ analysis of the COVID Tracking Project’s data.

Wisconsin reported 3,413 new infections Thursday, according to the state health department, compared with 4,205 new infections Wednesday and a record 4,951 new cases on Tuesday.

In addition to rising case counts, an average of 27.6% of tests returned positive every day in the past week in Wisconsin as of Wednesday, according to data from The COVID Tracking Project, which is more than five times the rate that health experts recommend.

A high positivity rate can be a sign that a state is only testing its sickest patients and failing to cast a net wide enough to accurately capture community transmission, according to Johns Hopkins University. The World Health Organization recommends that governments get their positivity testing threshold below 5%.

More than 1,700 people in Wisconsin have died of the virus so far, according to the health department.

During a Thursday press briefing, Evers doubled down on his message about the severity of Wisconsin’s outbreak.

“To those who say this pandemic has been blown out of proportion, or that there isn’t a real risk, folks, that’s just flat out wrong,” Evers said. The governor pointed to families who have had loved ones died of COVID-19 and to the health care workers putting their personal health and safety on the line, while working emotionally exhausting hours to care for COVID-19 patients.

“Make no mistake,” he said. “This is an urgent crisis.”

ABC/Image Group LAMaren Morris will be making an appearance at a sprawling upcoming concert for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign.

The event, dubbed “I Will Vote,” features a massive list of performers from all genres. Cher, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews and The Black Eyed Peas are just a few of the artists set to perform or make an appearance during the show.

What's the scariest movie of all time? Better check your heart rate

No Comments Entertainment News

Tero Vesalainen/iStock(LONDON) — The scariest movie of all time has long been up for debate, but a new study conducted by Broad Band Choices may help put the matter to rest.

The London-based company conducted a test dubbed “The Science of Scare” with 50 horror fans, placing heart monitors on them as they watched several scary movies to see which ones got fans’ blood pumping the most.

According to the results, the 2012 film Sinister, starring Ethan Hawke as a true-crime writer who investigates a series of chilling murders carried out by an evil force, spooked fans the most.

While humans have an average resting heartbeat of around 65 beats per minute, Sinister viewers had an average heart rate of 86 beats per minute, with the highest spike reaching 131.

Coming in second is 2010’s Insidious, which also saw an average heart rate of 85 BPM and a highest spike of 133 BPM.  The Conjuring, Hereditary and Paranormal Activity take the 3rd, 4th and 5th-place slots, respectively.

Rounding out the top 20 are modern hits including John Krasinski’s smash horror flick A Quiet Place and 2016’s Hush, along with classics like Halloween, Scream, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist.
