Shannen Doherty and Sarah Michelle Gellar get real about cancer, quarantine and female friendship

No Comments Entertainment News

Phillip Faraone/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — Shannen Doherty opened up about her battle against stage IV breast cancer in a revealing interview with friend Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Hosted by Entertainment Tonight, the two actresses discussed a variety of topics, ranging from their greatest fears to the doldrums of quarantine at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Doherty, whose greatest fear is the ground squirrels destroying her garden, revealed that she’s been heartened by her fans’ words of comfort.

“I love it when people say, ‘we’re praying for you,’ and everything else, but there comes a point when you’re like, ‘I got this. I’m fine. I’m good,'” the Charmed alum revealed. “There are a lot of people in the world who could use prayers.”

Gellar smirked that Doherty can “lap me at an exercise class,” which was high praise coming from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star.

Doherty was diagnosed with cancer just before the nation went into lockdown, which presented some obvious challenges.  The actress resisted going in for her monthly blood panels because “I didn’t want to to be exposed.”

The Beverly Hills: 90210 alum then issued a passionate message, “I understand that you’re annoyed that you have to wear a mask, but let’s think about the people” who are immunocompromised.

On a lighter note, Doherty gushed about her long lasting friendship with Gellar, saying, “It’s so nice for me to have a female friend that feels no threat, no jealousy. We have never felt that with each other. We’ve done nothing but lift each other up and support each other in our careers and champion one another.”

Gellar agreed, adding, “”In this industry, where women are so often pitted against each other and it’s not about supporting other women, to have someone that I know loves me for me… I’m very lucky.”

Jennifer Lawrence explains how she went from voting Republican to becoming a proud Democrat

No Comments Entertainment News

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — With the presidential election less than a week away, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence made a rare appearance to social media to discuss her political viewpoints and how they changed over the years.

The 30-year-old actress first touched upon the comments she made on the Absolutely Not podcast last week, where she revealed that she used to lean Republican.

“I grew up Republican. My first time voting, I voted for John McCain. I was a little Republican,” she said during the Thursday podcast, adding that she was attracted to the party because of “the fiscal benefits of some of the Republican policies.”

Now, she’s setting the record straight on what she meant.

“I would like to clarify my voting record, which is the subject of many circulating headlines,” Lawrence opened up in a Tuesday announcement. “I grew up in a Republican family and voted for John McCain in 2008.”

However, her opinions shifted “through Obama’s presidency,” and she started to question her old voting habits.

It led to her realizing “I was voting against my own rights,” and, soon after, she switched parties.

“I am proud to say I am a Democrat,” the Academy Award winner concluded before shouting out former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the BidenHarris Campaign in three separate hashtags.

This is the third time the actress opened up this month regarding her political viewpoints, the first being on October 7 when she announced who she will be voting for on November 3.

In an interview with V Magazine, Lawrence announced that she will be supporting the Democratic ticket in the upcoming election, pledging her vote in support of Vice President Joe Biden and running mate, California Senator Kamala Harris.

“Under the Mistletoe”: Brett Eldredge joins Kelly Clarkson for an upbeat Christmas original

No Comments Country Music News

Atlantic RecordsKelly Clarkson unveiled the first of two seasonal releases this week, and it’s an original duet with the country king of Christmas himself, Brett Eldredge.

The song, “Under the Mistletoe,” which Kelly co-wrote, is upbeat, flirty and festive. Its lyrics wonder if holiday magic might lead to romance, set against a chorus of jingle bells.

“Push my pride aside, when I close my eyes / It’s just you and I, here under the mistletoe,” the pair sing in harmony during the swelling chorus. “Magic fills the air, standin’ over there / Sent to heal my pride, here under the mistletoe…”

“Under the Mistletoe” is the first of a two-pack of songs Kelly’s got planned for this holiday season, the singer recently revealed.

“I actually have a couple Christmas things dropping too, that are very random,” the singer said. “A duet with Brett Eldredge, who I love, that I wrote, and a cover song. So it’s like an A/B side thing that’s coming out for Christmas.”

Kelly previously dropped a full-length holiday album in 2013 called Wrapped in Red. Her duet partner’s no slouch when it comes to Christmas, either: Brett’s Glow album was a festive hit after it arrived in 2016, and the singer’s since embarked on a series of holiday tours named after the project.

'Arrow' alum Stephen Amell reveals COVID-19 diagnosis

No Comments Entertainment News

Sergei Bachlakov/The CW — © 2018 The CW Network, LLC. All Rights Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — Arrow alum Stephen Amell just dropped the bomb that he tested positive for COVID-19.

During an episode of the Inside Of You podcast, Amell, 39, revealed he received the diagnosis after he had already been in isolation for three weeks due to a crew member on the set of his new wrestling drama Heels testing positive. While he’s not sure where or who he contracted the virus from, he shared that his first concern was what would happen with the show.

Amell explained, “When it happened, when I got the positive test, for me it became, ‘Holy f! I just destroyed this show because I’m number one on the call sheet and I work every day, more or less… I’m in my head going, ‘s! They’re going to have to shut down the production. We’re not yet done with the first block of two episodes. Did I just ruin this?'”

What actually happened was far from what Amell was worried about. Production only shut down for one day and the crew was able to focus on gathering other footage until he could return.

“What they were able to do is mind boggling, quite frankly,” he praised. “It just goes to show that they were prepared for it, but not everyone has the luxury of taking two weeks off.”

During the podcast, the actor noted that his symptoms did not include a fever but he did lose 15 pounds in three weeks due to loss of appetite. He also had a plugged ear, dizziness if he rose to his feet too fast, and “for two nights I was up every couple of hours vacillating between freezing cold and boiling hot.”

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS via Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — It’s been a few years since Jon Stewart took his final bow on The Daily Show and stepped aside for new host Trevor Noah to take over.

Five years later, the acclaimed talk show host is poised to make a grand return to television after inking a new deal with Apple.

Variety reports that Stewart, alongside his production company Busboy Productions, entered a multi-year deal with Apple to helm an hour-long program dedicated to breaking down current events.  Already, Stewart has been signed for multiple seasons — and he hasn’t even shot his first episode, yet.

The show is expected to focus on one daily topic per episode and tackle a variety of subjects such as politics, national events or events near and dear to Stewart’s heart.

The Emmy Award-winner will also launch a podcast to accompany the brand new series.

Stewart was the face of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show for 16 years, which earned him 56 Emmy nominations and two Peabody Awards.  In addition, the show helped launch the careers of several contributors, namely Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Samantha Bee.

It is currently unknown when Stewart’s new series on Apple TV+ is set to begin production or premiere.
