As the holidays near, Dan + Shay are hoping you’ll “Take Me Home for Christmas”

No Comments Country Music News

Warner Music NashvilleDan + Shay are heading into the holiday season with a little Christmas cheer of their own. The duo dropped “Take Me Home for Christmas” on Friday, a flirty original number that finds them hoping for an invitation to spend the holidays with a new love interest.

“Baby, won’t you take me home for Christmas? / Show me around your town / Take me where you used to watch the snow come down,” the pair harmonize in the chorus, backed by a peppy, uptempo beat.

Duo member Dan Smyers had a hand in penning the original holiday number, and he’s not the only familiar name among the songwriters’ list. “Drunk Me” singer Mitchell Tenpenny is also a co-writer on “Take Me Home for Christmas.”

Though they’ve never put out a full holiday album, Dan + Shay are no strangers to releasing Christmas music. In 2018, they cut a version of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

Before they pack their suitcases and head home for the holidays, the band mates will round out their year with a couple more busy musical weeks. Next Wednesday, they’ll take the stage at the 2020 CMA Awards to perform the live premiere of “10,000 Hours,” their hit duet with Justin Bieber.

Al Roker reveals prostate cancer diagnosis

No Comments Entertainment News

Nathan Congleton/NBC(LOS ANGELES) — Beloved weatherman and Today show personality Al Roker revealed Friday morning that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and would be taking time off to undergo surgery to have the organ removed.

Roker claimed he had no symptoms but that a routine check-up flagged his diagnosis. “It’s a good news-bad news kind of thing,” he commented on air. “Good news is we caught it early. Not great news is that it’s a little aggressive, so I’m going to be taking some time off to take care of this.”

Dr. Vincent Laudone, who will perform the surgery on the 66-year-old Roker at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City next week, told Today, “Fortunately his cancer appears somewhat limited or confined to the prostate, but because it’s more aggressive, we wanted to treat it.”

Roker told his audience he intends to chronicle his “journey” battling the disease, with which statistically one in seven African-American men, and one in nine men overall, will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is very treatable if detected early, Roker noted, advising men to see their doctors even if they don’t have any symptoms.

Roker said he’d “hopefully” be back on the air in two weeks.

Mudslides caused by Eta rains kill 50 in Guatemala, storm heading toward US

ABC NewsBy MAX GOLEMBO, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — Eta remnants are now emerging in the western Caribbean Sea between Belize and Honduras and are forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm later Friday and head north. It could threaten Florida this weekend.

Mudslides, due to heavy rain from Eta, killed at least 50 people in Guatemala Thursday. At least 40 inches of rain fell in the region.

Heavy rains have caused multiple landslides, and overflowed rivers and ravines, in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica. Thousands of people have been evacuated, and more than 100,000 are without electricity.

On satellite images, Eta’s new center is seen emerging in the western Caribbean Sea near Belize.

The official National Hurricane Center path shows that new Eta circulation is expected to strengthen over the Caribbean Sea Friday and turn into a tropical storm. It could have winds near 60 mph by Sunday as it crosses Cuba.

After that, Eta will be a strong tropical storm with winds near 65 mph as it nears south Florida on Sunday night.

Early next week, Eta will be in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, bringing flooding rain to Florida and parts of the Southeast.

Most models now agree that Eta will move north over Cuba and near Florida this weekend into early next week, bringing torrential rainfall and gusty winds to the state. Locally, a foot of rain is possible in southern Florida, with flash flooding a threat.

(NEW YORK) — The Las Vegas Raiders and their coach Jon Gruden have reportedly been slapped with more fines for violating COVID-19 protocols.

Citing sources, ESPN reports the NFL fined the Raiders $500,000 and took away the team’s sixth-round pick in the 2021 draft over “brazen and repeated violations of [COVID-19] protocols.” Gruden, meanwhile, was hit with an additional $150,000 fine.

The new penalties come after the team was charged $250,000 and Gruden $100,000 during the Raiders’ Week 2 home opener because the 57-year-old coach did not wear a mask properly.

So far, the Raiders have been fined a total of $1.185 million for violating COVID-19 protocols this season.
