“It’s a big deal”: Jimmie Allen reflects on the impact of Darius Rucker’s 2020 CMAs hosting gig

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/CMAAs the country music world counts down to the 2020 CMA Awards tonight, Jimmie Allen is reflecting on how Darius Rucker’s role as host will impact representation of Black artists in the genre.

“It’s a big deal,” the singer and New Artist of the Year nominee says. “Because you figure the only other Black person that hosted was Charley Pride in 1975, with Glen Campbell.”

Not only is Jimmie performing his hit “Best Shot” on the CMAs stage tonight, he’ll also be a big part of that representation when he presents Pride with the 2020 Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.

But the most important thing, Jimmie stresses, is young audience members seeing that it’s possible for Black performers to make it in country music.

“It’s gonna be some…young Black kid flipping through that television and seeing Darius hosting the Country Music Awards. Like, ‘Wait, what? I can do country music?’ The crazy thing is, a lot of people don’t know there are Black country artists,” he reflects.

“I feel like if we’re all about equality and inclusiveness, we should represent that in our programming, in our formats and our genres of music,” Jimmie continues. “Every ethnicity, every culture should have some sort of representation.”

The 2020 CMA Awards kicks off tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

Wiping away the COVID-19 cobwebs: Hollywood production ramping up

No Comments Entertainment News

iStock/gorodenkoff(LOS ANGELES) — Film permits for the Los Angeles area jumped by 24% in October versus September, Variety reports, in a sign that COVID-19’s grip on the entertainment industry may be loosening.

With new safety protocols in place, many shows have already started production.  But while the 2,565 film permit applications that were applied for in the past 20 weeks is a positive sign, the trade reports the numbers are about half of what they were last year at this time, before the pandemic struck.

Forty-four percent of those permits were for commercial shoots, Variety says, while 25% were for TV shows and just 4% for feature films.

Rebel Wilson discusses why she committed herself to a "year of health" and set a strict goal weight

No Comments Entertainment News

Wilson in 2019 – ABC/Rick Rowell(LOS ANGELES) — Australian actress Rebel Wilson started the year with an ambitious weight-loss goal and, now, she’s revealing why she wanted 2020 to be a transformative year.

During her Tuesday appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 40-year-old actress opened up about why she challenged herself to hit a goal weight of 165 pounds.

“I was going all around the world, jet setting everywhere and eating a ton of sugar that was kind of my vice. I have a very sweet tooth.  I love desserts,” the Pitch Perfect star explained, adding that she, like many, kept trying to find a fad or a diet that worked for her.

Wilson committed herself to a “year of health” after her birthday in March.

“I’m like, ‘I need to do a really holistic approach this time,'” she continued. “I think what I mainly suffered from was emotional eating and dealing with the stress of becoming famous internationally…There is a lot of stress that comes with it and I guess my way of dealing with it was eating donuts.”

That led to the epiphany that Wilson needed to work on her mental health as well as her nutrition.

“I was working on the mental side of things of why was I doing that and why was I not valuing myself and having better self-worth. And then, also on the nutritional side, my diet was mainly all carbs, which are delicious, but for my body type I needed to eat a lot more protein,” The Hustle star elaborated.

So far, Wilson has lost about 40 pounds, but admittedly has “to lose a few more” before she hits her goal weight.

“I love my curves and stuff.  I don’t think I’ll ever go too skinny, but I feel so much healthier,” she smiled.

Rupert Grint officially joins Instagram to share the first photo of his daughter

Jun Sato/GC Images(LONDON) — Harry Potter star Rupert Grint finally joined the rest of his co-stars on Instagram.  However, his debut on Tuesday was made all the cuter when he dedicated his first post to his newborn daughter.

Grint, 32, gave fans their first glimpse of his little girl and, not only that, he finally revealed her name.

“Hey Instagram….only 10 years late, but here I am. Grint on the Gram,” the Servant star cheerily captioned the sweet photo of him cuddling his newborn. “Here to introduce you all to Wednesday G. Grint.”

Little Wednesday, dressed in an oversized hot pink sweater, is snuggling close to her father in the adorable selfie.  Unlike her red-headed father, however, her head is barely covered in peach fuzz.

Grint and girlfriend Georgia Groome welcomed their little one into the world in May, just a month after the two first announced they had a baby on the way.  Wednesday is their first child together.

Shortly after the announcement was made, the actor’s Harry Potter co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, gushed about the newborn during his appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen

“I’m so happy for him,” said Radcliffe when asked about how Grint was adjusting to fatherhood at the time. “It’s very, very cool.”

As of early Wednesday morning, Grint has amassed nearly two million followers.

(HOUSTON) — It appears James Harden’s and Russell Westbrook’s future with the Houston Rockets could be in jeopardy.

Citing sources, ESPN reports the two star guards “have expressed concern about the direction of the franchise through direct conversations or discussions with their representatives and the Rockets’ front office.”

Their concerns come after head coach Mike D’Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey left the Rockets at the end of the 2019–20 season. The team has since named Rafael Stone as its new general manager and Stephen Silas as its next head coach.

Neither Harden, 31, or Westbrook, who turns 32 on Thursday, have asked to be traded yet.
