(MIAMI) — The Miami Marlins made a historic change to the lineup in their front office.

Kim Ng was named general manager of the Miami Marlins, the organization announced Friday, becoming the first female and first Asian American general manager in the sport’s history.

“I entered Major League Baseball as an intern and, after decades of determination, it is the honor of my career to lead the Miami Marlins as their next General Manager,” Ng, a longtime baseball executive who has been senior vice president for baseball operations for the MLB since 2011, said in a statement.

“We are building for the long term in South Florida, developing a forward-thinking, collaborative, creative baseball operation made up of incredibly talented and dedicated staff who have, over the last few years, laid a great foundation for success,” she continued. “This challenge is one I don’t take lightly. When I got into this business, it seemed unlikely a woman would lead a Major League team, but I am dogged in the pursuit of my goals.”

She is also believed to be the first woman hired to the general manager position by any of the professional men’s sports teams in the North American Major Leagues, the organization said in a press release.

With over 30 years of experience in the sport, Ng has previously been with the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and most recently spent the last nine years in the MLB Commissioner’s Office. Ng was long rumored to be a prime candidate to become the first female GM in the sport.

She has a winning record with Marlins CEO and former Yankees great Derek Jeter, who played for the team when Ng was with the New York organization.

“On behalf of principal owner Bruce Sherman and our entire ownership group, we look forward to Kim bringing a wealth of knowledge and championship-level experience to the Miami Marlins,” Jeter said in a statement. “Her leadership of our baseball operations team will play a major role on our path toward sustained success. Additionally, her extensive work in expanding youth baseball and softball initiatives will enhance our efforts to grow the game among our local youth as we continue to make a positive impact on the South Florida community.”

In their time together with the Yankees, Ng and Jeter notched three World Series wins, in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

“My goal is now to bring championship baseball to Miami. I am both humbled and eager to continue building the winning culture our fans respect and deserve,” Ng said.

Amber Heard denies rumors she's been axed from 'Aquaman 2', as petition to replace her grows

No Comments Entertainment News

Jeff Spicer/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Following Johnny Depp’s forced exit from Fantastic Beasts 3 after being handed a defeat in his libel case against the U.K. tabloid The Sun, his ex-wife Amber Heard is denying rumors that she is being replaced as warrior Mera in the planned sequel to the 2018 film Aquaman.

The news comes as a Change.org petition to replace her reached more than 1.1 million signatures and counting over an alleged “pattern of abuse” she demonstrated towards Depp and another domestic partner.

“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back,” Heard tells Entertainment Weekly. “I’m so excited to film that.”

Depp’s suit stemmed from an article that was published April 27, 2018 that branded the 57-year-old actor a “wife beater” during his messy marriage to Heard. Depp has maintained his innocence and said he plans to appeal the decision.

Depp insists it was Heard who got physical with him, punching him repeatedly and at one point cutting off the tip of his finger with a thrown vodka bottle.

Heard, 34, claims that she has lost work due to speaking out against sexual violence.  She wrote in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post, “A movie I was attached to recast my role. I had just shot a two-year campaign as the face of a global fashion brand, and the company dropped me.”

Heard will next be seen in a series adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Stand, premiering December 17 on CBS All Access.

Tim McGraw assembles greatest hits collection, shares bonus “Redneck Girl” duet with Midland

No Comments Country Music News

Courtesy of Big Machine Records / Spirit Music Group Tim McGraw has unveiled plans for a greatest hits record called McGraw Machine Hits: 2013-2019. The new album will take a look back at 12 fan-favorite tracks from Tim’s highly prolific 2010s stint on Big Machine Label Group, a label he returned to early this year.

The collection includes hits like “Shotgun Rider,” “Top of the World,” “How I’ll Always Be” and many more. McGraw Machine Hits drops on November 20, just a week after Tim announced it.

“Every now and then you want to go back and hear a collection of songs exactly as you remember them,” Tim says. “Even to go re-record doesn’t feel right, because there’s something magical about what happened there when it happened.”

But while Tim isn’t changing up his winning formula with the hit songs, he is including something extra on his new record. The singer has added in three bonus tracks, beginning with his 2019 song, “Drive.”

Next, he reimagines Florida Georgia Line’s “May We All” in a duet performance with the hitmaking duo. Another of the bonus tracks is a cover of The Bellamy Brothers’ 1982 hit, “Redneck Girl,” which Tim recorded with country trio Midland.

Ahead of the McGraw Machine’s release, Tim’s sharing his take on “Redneck Girl” with fans.

Jeezy jokes Jeannie Mai is "eating everything in the house" as she's recovering from emergency surgery

No Comments Entertainment News

Paul R. Giunta/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Following her premature exit from Dancing with the Stars due to emergency surgery, Jeannie Mai’s fiancé, Jeezy, provided an update about her recovery.

“She’s doing well,” the rapper confirmed during his Thursday appearance on The Real, of which Mai serves as a co-host, “She’s eating everything in the house. But she’s definitely doing well.”

Jeezy, 43, added that it’s “been hard” for Mai, 41, to rest, especially since she had her heart set on winning the Mirror Ball Trophy.

The “Put On” artist went onto detail what triggered that emergency visit to the hospital. At first, he says she “had some problems with her throat,” but the doctor couldn’t find anything wrong, so “they gave her a shot of steroids and everything was good.”

Then, Mai started having difficulty breathing.

“She woke up one morning and got up before me and I got up and went behind her, and I saw her, and she couldn’t breathe,” he explained.  “I grabbed her immediately, took her to the emergency room,” but again no one could give them an answer.

“So we actually went to another doctor,” the Grammy-nominee recounted. “The doctor immediately looked at her and told her, ‘You’re done with Dancing With The Stars. You’re done. This is life-threatening and if you don’t get it fixed right now, you could possibly lose your life.'”

Jeezy admits they both took the ultimatum extremely hard.

“She’s not a quitter, she’s a fighter,” he said of his fiancée. “And, just so you know, right after the surgery? She was trying to figure out how to get back on that show.”

It was announced earlier this month that Mai was forced to withdraw from the competition, which she later revealed was due to an infected throat abscess affecting her tonsils and throat.

Marvel's Disney+ show 'WandaVision' debuts January 15

No Comments Entertainment News

Disney+(NEW YORK) — Disney+ has announced January 15 as the premiere date for WandaVision, the series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, reprising their respective roles as Wanda Maximoff and Vision from Marvel’s Avengers movies.

The series is described as “a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision — two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives — begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.”

The trailer to the series seems to play on Marvel Comics’ popular “What If” series of books; in it, both Olsen and Bettany’s characters seem to appear in classic TV settings, from a black and white Ozzie and Harriet domestic sitcom, to the polyester Brady Bunch ’70s, as well as appearing in their classic comic outfits as well as what appears to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, where — as fans saw in Avengers: Infinity War, Vision is killed.

WandaVision marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+; also in the wings is the anticipated Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring, respectively, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, reprising their titular MCU roles. That series debuts in August of 2020.

Marvel is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
