Chase Rice takes you inside the "Fun House" where he and FGL were "Drinkin' Beer Talkin' GIRLS Amen"

No Comments Country Music News

John Shearer & Jason MyersChase Rice and Florida Georgia Line currently have their first hit collaboration with “Drinkin’ Beer Talkin’ God Amen,” but the guys actually go way back.

A decade ago, Chase, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley were roommates, sharing a place they called the Fun House in the Green Hills section of Nashville.

“I learned from them,” Chase tells ABC Audio, “because they were in town two or three years before I ever moved here.”

“[They’d] wake up and try to write. We didn’t write songs together,” he goes on. “Russell Dickerson would come over and they’d write songs, and I’d just be sitting there in the kitchen or in my room hanging out because I hadn’t earned my way into the club yet of songwriting.”

“And that was my first experience learning what co-writes were,” Chase recalls. “And then days would go by that they didn’t have writes, and that’s when we’d just kind of creatively sit down and start working on one all three together.”

Of course, that turned out to be a fruitful collaboration, since Chase was one of the co-writers on FGL’s breakthrough, eleven-time RIAA-Platinum smash, “Cruise.”

Chase says there’s no denying all three have changed since then.

“Tyler said it best,” Chase smiles. “He said, ‘Back then it’d be “Drinkin’ Beer Talking GIRLS Amen.”‘ And now it’s gone from that to ‘Drinkin’ Beer Talkin’ God Amen.'”

“It shows the progression of our lives,” he adds.

Not long ago, the guys got together at an old tobacco barn on Chase’s Music City property to shoot the music video for their hit, which is nearing the top 30.

Look for Chase’s The Album Part III to be released later this year.

(NEW YORK) — Fordham University will hire Villanova assistant coach Kyle Neptune as the next head basketball coach, according to multiple media reports and confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

This will be Neptune first head coaching job.

The 36-year-old from Brooklyn starred at Lehigh University before joining the Wildcats in 2008 as an administrative intern and video coordinator.

In 2010, he became an assistant coach at Niagara University and spent three years with the team before coming back to Villanova as an assistant coach.

He is the longest-tenured assistant for Villanova. During his eight years in his current position, the Wildcats have averaged just over 30 wins per season, won five Big East tournament titles, and two National Championships.

During a zoom press conference with reporters on Monday, Villanova head coach Jay Wright would not confirm the hiring but praised his young assistant.

“I think he’s more ready to be a head coach than most young guys X’s and O’s-wise and I think he’s got great character, great leadership skills, I think he’s going to be an outstanding head coach,” Wright said.

Source’s tell ESPN the hiring will be officially announced this week.

Neptune will take over for Jeff Neubauer, who left his position in January in his sixth season.

He went 61-104 in his time with the Rams.

New York City moves to end qualified immunity, making it the 1st city in US to do so

(NEW YORK ) — The city of New York moved to end qualified immunity, making it the first city in the United States to do so.

Qualified immunity is the practice of not being able to file a civil lawsuit against a government official performing his or her official duties unless they “clearly established statutory or constitutional rights of which a reasonable person would have known.”

In New York, the City Council voted to end the practice for New York Police Department officers. The NYPD is the largest police force in the United States, with some 36,000 officers.

The move came days ahead of the start of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial. The killing of George Floyd while in police custody sparked international protests and a debate over policing reform across the U.S. last summer.

In an interview on WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show,” Mayor Bill DeBlasio stressed that the bill won’t have officers personally responsible.

“It makes it easier if someone has a concern to bring a legal action, but it does not put the individual financial penalty on the officer,” the mayor said. “It puts it on the department and the city, and that’s what I was comfortable with.”

City Council speaker Corey Johnson lauded the move saying that the practice of qualified immunity was rooted in the nation’s systemic racism.

“Qualified immunity was established in 1967 in Mississippi to prevent Freedom Riders from holding public officials liable even when they broke the law,” Johnson tweeted. “Rooted in our nation’s history of systemic racism, qualified immunity denied Freedom Riders justice and has been used to deny justice to victims of police abuse for decades. It should never have been allowed, but I’m proud that we took action today to end it here in NYC.”

Police union officials are speaking out against the law, which the mayor signaled he intended to sign.

“Qualified immunity is an essential part of the law enforcement profession. While it shields officers from erroneous and professionally damaging lawsuits, it does not erase responsibility. At any point in time, an agency determines the office was acting out of policy or unlawfully, qualified immunity could be removed and them exposed to full liability,” Don Mihalek, an ABC News contributor said.

“The public often confuses lawful actions by law enforcement versus public perception. What is lawful may not be clear in the public’s view. This is why an investigation is paramount to document the lawfulness of an officer’s actions,” said Mihalek, who also serves as the executive director of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

The motel from 'Schitt's Creek' is for sale

No Comments Entertainment News

CBC(ONTARIO, CANADA) — For fans of the everything-winning comedy Schitt’s Creek, here’s a chance to own a piece of TV history: its Rosebud Motel.

More specifically, Orangeville, Ontario’s Hockley Motel, the real-life lodging used as the hit Canadian show’s exterior, is now up for sale for a little more than $1.6 million.

According to the series, Eugene Levy’s once wealthy character Johnny Rose buys the entire town of Schitt’s Creek as a joke, thanks to its name. But in the pilot, his spoiled family — played by his real-life son Dan Levy, Catherine O’Hara as Johnny’s wife Moira, and their daughter, played by Annie Murphy, all Emmy winners thanks to the series — are forced to live at the town’s motel when they’re swindled out of their fortune.

Needless to say, it’s not an easy transition.

According to the listing, the 10-room property sits on 6.7 acres, “surrounded by nature, including Nottawasaga River – a highly desirable fishing river for Rainbow Trout and Salmon.” There’s also a separate cottage on site for a potential property manager.

While the motel isn’t operational, the realtor suggests, “A new owner has the ability to create something special on the Site, capitalizing on new travel trends following COVID-19.” The listing agent adds, “It is anticipated travelers will be valuing safety and cleanliness as well as unique experiences to enjoy nature and the outdoors.”
