FGL makes history with diamond certification of "Meant to Be"; may be back on the road in the "late spring"

No Comments Country Music News

John ShearerThursday night, Florida Georgia Line and a few dozen of their closest music industry pals jumped on Zoom to celebrate a record-breaking achievement.

With the Diamond certification of their hit “Meant to Be,” the duo is now the only country act in the 62-year history of the Recording Industry Association of America to have had two Diamond singles. The other is, of course, “Cruise.” Diamond certification recognizes 10 million units sold.

Tyler Hubbard, who is recovering from COVID-19, joked, “Thank you for the ego boost,” and said the most important thing for him is that his music with band mate Brian Kelley is “connecting.” “When I hear these numbers, that’s what I hear,” he said.

Noting that he’d spent the past 13 days quarantining on his bus, Tyler said he’d gotten so much done that he’s considering sequestering himself on a regular basis. “Once a year, park the bus and stay on it!” he laughed.

BK, meanwhile, said he was “super gratified” and raised a toast to “life” just keeping “getting better.”

FGL also said their new album is completely done and “ready to be dropped” — and they think they might be back earlier than you might expect.

The group’s manager, music industry legend Irving Azoff, said on the call, “This thing’s going to end…We’re pretty gung-ho. It wouldn’t surprise to me to see the boys on the road late spring. But by mid-summer, we think we’re going to get our lives back. So everybody kind of stay the course, work together.”

Jimmie Allen celebrates a doo-wop Christmas with Louis York, the Shindellas in “What Does Christmas Mean”

No Comments Country Music News

BBR Music Group/Weirdo WorkshopJimmie Allen dropped his first-ever holiday release today, and it’s a fun, doo-wop tune called “What Does Christmas Mean.”

The duet finds Jimmie joining forces with songwriting and production duo Louis York as well as Nashville-based trio the Shindellas to create a sparkling toast to throwback Christmas magic. The festive track includes a horn section, sleigh bells and a lively piano line.

Louis York and the Shindellas first recorded this track for their 2017 EP Masterpiece Theater: Act III. With extra country flair from Jimmie, they re-imagined the tune for a new release in 2020.

For the “Best Shot” star, recording the song was a win-win: Not only did he get to celebrate the holidays, but he got to do it with two acts he admires.  “I am a huge fan of Louis York and the Shindellas. I love what they have to say musically. And I am a big, big fan of Christmas,” Jimmie explains. “So being on this song with them is super special and fun.”

Before he gets to Christmas, however, Jimmie’s got Thanksgiving plans: He’s performing with Noah Cyrus during the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Terminally-ill 'Halloween' superfan died minutes after Jamie Lee Curtis officiated his wedding

No Comments Entertainment News

Andrew Eccles/Universal Pictures(SOUTH CAROLINA) — The news of the September 13 cancer-related death of a super fan of both of Halloween the holiday and Halloween the movie has now gone viral.

Twenty-nine year old Anthony Woodie married his longtime girlfriend Emilee on that date, in a ceremony in South Carolina that was officiated over the phone by ordained minister — and Halloween star — Jamie Lee Curtis.

According to the Post and Courier, Woodie, suffering from Stage 4 esophageal cancer, passed away just minutes later.

This past summer, Woodie, along with the manager of his local movie theater and Emilee, were the first to see the yet-to-be released Halloween Kills.  The final wish was granted by the movie’s backers, Rough House Productions.

Curtis learned about Woodie’s story afterward, and reached out to him. Not only did they speak on the phone, but she sent him some movie merch, and offered to officiate their wedding on September 13.

By the time the big day came around, however, Woodie’s condition was dire; according to the paper, he fell unconscious, and never awoke. But Woodie was still able to marry Emilee, with his family around him,

At 10:30 p.m. that night, Curtis called and, over the phone, conducted the ceremony. She reportedly said,  “Anthony and Emilee…May the blessings of God rest upon you, may his peace abide with you, may her spirit illuminate your heart now, in this moment.”

“With the power vested in me by the Internet, it is my great pleasure to tell you that you are now married people,” the star concluded.

Less than an hour later, at 11:17 p.m., Woodie passed.

His new bride called Curtis the next day to tell her the news; the two remain in touch, according to the paper.

Halloween Kills opens October 15, 2021.

“It’s About Time” for a party, as Russell Dickerson pops the top on a fun Florida Georgia Line duet

No Comments Country Music News

Spencer CombsRussell Dickerson kicks things into high gear with “It’s About Time,” an uptempo and fun-loving new tune featuring none other than his country superstar buddies, Florida Georgia Line.

The singer says that when it comes to a song like this one, no one else could get the party started like the band mates of FGL.

“When we finished this song I knew there was only one feature to bring in. It’s the Florida Georgia Line energy that only they can bring. And they 100 percent took this song to a whole new level!” Russell declares.

“We knew we had to be on this song the second RD reached out and we heard it. Not only is he one of our best friends, but we’re huge fans of his music and him as a person,” the duo adds. “It was only a matter of time until we found the right song to do together, and that time has come.”

“It’s About Time” is the sixth track on Russell’s upcoming sophomore album, Southern Symphony. That project’s due out on December 4.

Though Southern Symphony hasn’t yet been released, its lead single is already heating up the charts. That song, “Love You Like I Used To,” landed at the top of the charts for the second week in a row this week. It’s Russell’s fourth consecutive number-one hit.
