Snow and rain hit the Midwest as new storm brings snow from the Rockies to the Mississippi Valley

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBY: REED MCDONOUGH, ABC NEWS

(NEW YORK) — Snow fell Friday night into Saturday in parts of the Midwest from Nebraska to Wisconsin. On Saturday morning, snow and rain continue as the storm moves to the North of the country.

The storm is expected to cross the Lower Peninsula of Michigan later in the day and move into Canada. It will bring windy and snowy conditions across the Lower Peninsula and will leave behind up to 10 inches of snow in some parts of the area by Saturday night.

A storm hit the Pacific Northwest Saturday morning bringing rain and snow to a large part of the country. By the end of the weekend, between 1 to 3 inches of rain may fall along the Pacific Northwest coastline from Northern California to southern Washington state.

The storm is bringing light snow in the valleys and heavier snow in the eastern mountains of California. Later in the day, it will cross over parts of the Rocky Mountains and eventually end up in the Southern Plains and Mississippi River Valley by Sunday evening.

It will likely bring up to 10 inches of snow in the higher elevations of eastern California and the Colorado Rockies, while the valleys will see around 3-6 inches. The storm will also bring a few inches of snow across the Southern Plains from southern Kansas to North Texas.

As soon as Saturday’s storm departs the Pacific Northwest, a second storm will move in. Parts of the Pacific Northwest will once again see rain and snow to finish off the weekend and kick off the work week.

While many parts of the country will see cold weather Saturday, the eastern states will see a dramatic warm up. Afternoon highs from the Carolinas to Philadelphia will be near or above 60 degrees Fahrenheit through the weekend before a return to cooler temperatures on Monday. New York City will approach 60 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

Next week, a storm will likely develop in the West and push toward the Northeast by Wednesday. It has the potential to bring in cold air on the backside by Wednesday evening, which poses the threat for a potentially rare early winter storm in major cities like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City. This would be significant considering the lack of snowfall over the past few winters in that part of the country.

FKA Twigs accuses Shia LaBeouf of abuse in lawsuit

No Comments Entertainment News

Melodie Jeng//GC Images(LOS ANGELES) –Shia LaBeouf is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs, with the singer claiming the actor “hurts women…uses them [and] abuses them both personally and mentally.”

The suit, submitted in Los Angeles by attorneys representing FKA, who was born Tahliah Barnett, calls LaBeouf “dangerous.”

Barnett’s suit claims the actor “tormented” her, brandished a firearm while driving, and “knowingly” gave her an STD, among other accusations of similarly violent behavior.

Her attorney Bryan Freedman says, “Shia LaBoeuf has abused Ms. Barnett…and others. We tried to resolve this matter privately on the condition that Mr. LaBeouf agree to receive meaningful and consistent psychological treatment. Since he was unwilling to agree to get appropriate help, Ms. Barnett filed this suit to prevent others from unknowingly suffering similar abuse by him.”

In a statement to the New York Times, LaBeoeuf says, “Although many of these allegations are not true, I am not in the position to defend any of my actions. I owe these women the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those thing I have done.”

LaBeouf, who has struggled with alcohol in the past, leading to run-ins with the law, noted, “As someone in recovery, I have to face almost daily reminders of things I did say and do when I was drinking.”

He tells the Times, “It has always been easy for me to accept responsibility when my behavior reflects poorly on myself, but it’s much harder to accept the knowledge that I may have caused great pain to others. I can’t rewrite history. I can only accept it and work to be better in the future. I write this as a sober member of a twelve-step program and in therapy for my many failings.”

Eric Church offers a tender tribute to his ride-or-dies in his new ballad, “Doing Life with Me”

No Comments Country Music News

ABCEric Church released a new song this week, and it’s a touching tribute to the people in life who mean the most. Called “Doing Life with Me,” the song is a gentle, guitar-focused ballad that’s all about expressing gratitude.

“Am I living giving thanks / For the ships I never sank? / Every big, every little / And the everyday things / The notes and the words in the songs I sing / To the ones doing life with me,” Eric reflects in the song’s chorus.

His latest release comes on the heels of a big career milestone for the singer, who was named Entertainer of the Year at last month’s CMA Awards show. In a virtual press room during that show, he promised lots of new music ahead.

Eric’s been hard at work for quite a while on his next studio project, and fans have already seen some of the fruits of that labor. Over the course of 2020, he’s shared songs like “Stick That in Your Country Song,” “Bad Mother Trucker,” “Jenny,” “Crazyland” and more.

Eric’s latest single, “Hell of a View,” is nearing the top 30 at country radio.

Runaway June brings Christmas cheer to armed forces deployed overseas with virtual holiday concert

No Comments Country Music News

Ford FairchildRunaway June is a featured artist in the Armed Forces Entertainment’s first-ever virtual show. Taking its name from the trio’s new holiday EP, the event is dubbed When I Think About Christmas with Runaway June.

The holidays will likely look a little different to most people this year, and for the men and women in uniform who are currently deployed overseas the differences will be even greater. Due to COVID-19 protocols, they’ll be unable to return to the U.S. to spend Christmas with their families.

Also due to the pandemic, artists aren’t able to travel overseas to perform. So the band mates of Runaway June took the stage virtually, with their show being made available to every service member, no matter where they’re stationed.

Runaway June brought their trademark vocal harmonies and bluegrass-tinged country stylings to the stage, mixing in Christmas hits with their own fan-favorite original releases like “Buy My Own Drinks” and “Lipstick.” The full show is available to watch on the Armed Forces Entertainment’s YouTube channel.

The trio isn’t done spreading holiday cheer yet. On December 16, they’ll team up with Cracker Barrel for the virtual “Cracker Barrel Sounds of the Season” show, along with their former tour mates Maddie & Tae and Carrie Underwood.

Jerry O'Connell, Gabriel Union-Wade and Molly Sims toast pandemic parents with Tropicana mimosa campaign

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC News/Steve Iervolino(LOS ANGELES) — 2020 has been, well, a lot for all of us, but for parents, it’s been particularly trying. Between work, helping kids with school, and keeping them occupied, it’s easy to forget to take some time for yourself.

That’s why Tropicana is urging everyone to take a “Mimoment,” after a recent survey it conducted showed that 87% of parents agreed that pandemic parenting has led them to craving some self-care.

With that in mind, Tropicana has recruited celebrity parents Jerry O’ConnellGabriel Union-Wade, and Molly Sims to help it urge parents to enjoy a “moment of brightness” — with a mimosa.  In a new campaign, the stars are shown stealing a “Mimoment,” thanks to a series of mini-fridges cleverly disguised as a garage tool box, a bathroom cabinet, and a laundry hamper.

O’Connell tells ABC Audio the spot was a bit of life imitating art.

“Literally, what was happening was my children were crying and screaming and blaming me because they were kicked out of a Zoom classroom,” he explains. “Something happened with the Internet and they were yelling at me like I had something to do with [it]!”

“And the phone rang and it was the people at Tropicana saying, ‘We’re going to do this…campaign where we’re going to celebrate the parents who have been holding it down in the pandemic.'”

He adds, “[P]arents should be celebrated during this pandemic…I’m really proud of all of us!”

While the mini fridges shown in the spot aren’t currently for sale, people can visit Tropicana’s Instagram page to reveal where they #TakeAMimoment of brightness — and they could just be surprised with one of their own. O’Connell says it’s pretty handy.

“What I do is I rattle some tools around and they have no clue what is going on down there,” he laughs.
