Trump tries to justify chaos at Capitol while Biden, President Bush condemn violence

No Comments Entertainment News

John Moore/Getty Images(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — As the chaotic scene continued in the nation’s capital with the world watching, President Donald Trump continued to tweet his repeated his false claim that the presidential election was stolen from him and tried to justify the storming of the U.S. Capitol that he encouraged earlier in the day.

“These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long,” he said.

After hours of chaos and as the Virginia State Police arrived at the U.S. Capitol Building, the president called on his supporters to “go home” in a one-minute video message posted to Twitter — which has since been removed across social media.  In the message, President Trump, without evidence, called the election “stolen” and fraudulent,” but told the protesters to go home “in peace.”

“It’s a very tough period of time. There’s never been a time like this where such a thing happened where they could take it away from all of us from me from you from our country. This was a fraudulent election. But we can’t play into the hands of these people. We have to have peace.”

“So go home. We love you. You’re very special. You’ve seen what happens. You see the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel — but go home and go home in peace,” he said.

Former President George W. Bush released a statement on what he called an “insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol, calling it “a sickening and heartbreaking sight.”

“This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic. I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement,” Bush said.

President-elect Joe Biden, who was scheduled to deliver afternoon remarks on the economy, addressed the unrest at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon from Wilmington, Delaware, and called on President Trump to “step up” and condemn the chaos being committed in his name.

“I call on President Trump to go on national television now, to fulfill his oath and defend the Constitution and demand an end to this siege,” Biden said. “To storm the Capitol, to smash windows, to occupy offices, the floor of the United States Senate, rummaging through desks — on the Capitol, on the House of Representatives — threatening the safety of duly elected officials, it’s not a protest. It’s insurrection.”

ABC/Maarten de Boer(LOS ANGELES) — The Real co-host Jeannie Mai says she’s “grateful for life” in a dazzling Instagram post celebrating her 42nd birthday.

Mai was forced to quit Dancing with the Stars in November for health reasons and underwent emergency surgery to remove an abscess blocking her airway. She said her birthday Tuesday is a special one, considering what she’s been through.

Pictured wearing a pink bikini, and posing in front of some tropical paradise, Mai wrote in part, “This year is unlike any other year I’ve ever celebrated my birthday. It was an awakening year, one that made me recognize what it means to be truly GRATEFUL. Grateful for the little things that soothe my soul and mind.”

Jeannie went on to say she spent the time recuperating and reconnecting with things she loved from her past, like favorite books, and actually printing photos on her phone.

“I’m grateful for the STRENGTH and resilience in my body after surgery, grateful to nourish it back to health, grateful for the healing love of my soulmate, Jay [her fiancee, the rapper Jeezy], and my family; and thankful for everyone here who has supported and encouraged me with such love and humor from around the world,” Mai said before closing with, “But most of all— I am utterly grateful for life!”

Devin Dawson’s grandparents are the stars of his “He Loved Her” music video

No Comments Country Music News

Warner Music Nashville/Atlantic RecordsDevin Dawson wrote his new song, “He Loved Her,” as a tribute to his grandfather, Jerry Durrett. To make the music video for the song, Devin went straight to the source: He cast his grandparents as the stars of the clip.

Throughout the video, we see Jerry living the kind of simple life the song describes. He relaxes in an easy chair, petting his two chihuahuas, works on home improvement projects, and of course, he spends time with his wife.

On social media, Devin explains that the video was filmed in his hometown of Orangevale, California during a Thanksgiving trip home. Prior to that visit, it had been a year since he’d been able to see his grandparents, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When he released it back in November, Devin explained that “He Loved Her” was one of the most special songs he’d ever written.

“It’s inspired by my grandfather, Jerry. My rock,” he reflected. “It’s different from other songs I’ve written because it’s simple and to the point, which is sometimes hard for me to accomplish as a writer. I’m proud of the words, the music, and the tribute it pays to one of the most important people I’ll ever know.”

“He Loved Her” is on the track list of Devin’s upcoming The Pink Slip EP, which is scheduled for release on January 15. Other previously-shared songs off the six-track project include “I Got a Truck” and “Range Rover.”

Michael C. Hall sees 'Dexter' revival as a chance to redeem "unsatisfying" finale

No Comments Entertainment News

Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — When Showtime’s avenging serial killer hit Dexter left the airwaves in 2013, it joined the infamous ranks of beloved shows whose fans saw its swan-song become more of a swan dive, according to some fans.

One of those apparently not thrilled with how things wrapped up was its lead, actor and musician Michael C. Hall, who is happy Showtime has decided to revive it as a limited series.

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Hall explained, “[P]eople found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling. I include myself in the group of people that wondered, ‘What the hell happened to that guy?’ So I’m excited to step back into it.”

Hall further says the idea of continuing Dexter’s story has sprung up from time to time in the years since the finale, but notes, “I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn’t…”

Incidentally, Hall was also on one of the rare shows that managed to stick the landing, HBO’s Six Feet Under, which ended in 2005 after five seasons.

“Talking about broad spectrums.  I’ve dabbled in the extremes of ‘extremely satisfying’ and ‘extremely dissatisfying’ television finales,” Hall quipped.

He added, “We certainly do live in an era where the bar is very high as far as the simultaneous surprise, satisfaction, and closure that should go along with a series finale.”

The new Dexter series is slated to debut in the fall of 2021.
