(NEW YORK) — At least two Seattle police officers have been placed on leave and are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the U.S. Capitol protests.

The Seattle Police Department released a statement Friday night saying that it was made aware Friday of the officers’ involvement in the Jan. 6 siege and is now taking the appropriate measures.

“The Department fully supports all lawful expressions of First Amendment freedom of speech, but the violent mob and events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol were unlawful and resulted in the death of another police officer,” Chief Adrian Diaz said in the statement, referring to Brian Sicknick, who died of injuries he sustained during the attack.

Diaz said the case is now being reviewed by the Office of Police Accountability.

“The OPA will investigate whether any SPD policies were violated and if any potential illegal activities need to be referred for criminal investigation,” he said. “If any SPD officers were directly involved in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, I will immediately terminate them. While OPA investigates, these officers have been placed on administrative leave.”

This seems to be the first report of out-of-state law enforcement officials being involved in the violent pro-Trump protests.

The FBI is currently working to identify those involved and has already made various arrests.

In a statement late Friday, FBI Assistant Director in Charge Steven M. D’Antuono said in a press call, “Just because you’ve left the D.C. region, you can still expect a knock on the door if we find out that you were part of criminal activity inside the Capitol. Bottom line—the FBI is not sparing any resources in this investigation.”

Roy Rochlin/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Michael Apted, who directed the decades-long Seven Up documentary series, as well as mainstream Hollywood films like Coal Miner’s Daughter and Gorillas in the Mist, has died, according to the Directors Guild of America.

The filmmaker, who was 79, died Thursday night according to a statement from DGA president Thomas Schlamme.

Apted’s filmography included comedies like Continental Divide with John Belushi, to the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, to TV shows like Ray Donovan.

In a statement, Schlamme said Apted’s “legacy will be forever woven into the fabric of cinema…Michael’s search for the truth and what’s right was evident in all that he endeavored.” Schlamme, who produced and directed shows like The West Wing and Sports Night, closed with, “Words can’t express how much he will be missed.”

Other filmmakers were quick to memorialize Apted, including Traffic Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh, who said, “I spent countless hours literally two feet from Michael and loved every minute of it. Apart from his own remarkable body of work, what he gave to the DGA can’t be measured; he put his entire BEING into the Guild, and inspired us all to follow his example. We were lucky to have him and to know him.”

Canaan Smith “slept outside in my hammock” to make his outdoorsy new “Cabin in the Woods” video

No Comments Country Music News

Kurt OzanIf you’ve been following Canaan Smith’s career in recent months, it’ll come as no surprise that the music video for his new song, “Cabin in the Woods,” is another venture into the great outdoors.

The video was shot in rural McEwen, Tennessee, and Canaan says, “The whole filming process was a blast. I feel most at home when I’m out in the middle of nowhere, just enjoying nature — and that’s exactly what we did.”

In fact, he reveals to CMT, which exclusively premiered the clip, that he kept the outdoorsy vibes going even when the cameras weren’t rolling.

“The whole experience felt like I was out doing what I would normally do, and the video was just part of it,” he explains. “I actually slept outside in my hammock that night so I could wake up early and have breakfast by the fire.”

For the first time, Canaan also took on a directorial role alongside Kurt Ozan.

“Since this was my first time co-directing, it was that much more exciting for me. I hope fans enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it,” he says.

Canaan also co-produced the track alongside Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley.

Vanessa Kirby talks about 'Mission: Impossible 7''s "rigorous" COVID-19 protocols

No Comments Entertainment News

Netflix/Benjamin Loeb(LONDON) — Even if you didn’t know Mission: Impossible 7 was one of the first productions to spin back up after the COVID-19 pandemic all but shut Hollywood down, you’ve likely heard the Tom Cruise outburst directed towards crew members who broke the new safety rules.  Now co-star Vanessa Kirby is describing what it was like on set with what Cruise called “the gold standard” of safety protocols.

“The protocols, you get pretty used to them quite quickly,” she told Collider while promoting her intense new Netflix film Pieces of a Woman.

“Everyone’s always two meters apart, everyone’s tested three or four times a week. It’s really rigorous,” The Crown veteran says.  However, she explains that she’d had leg up in getting used to the “new normal.”

“My sister’s also a member of the crew on the film. She’s an [assistant director],” Kirby recalls. “She was on the first film [that got] back up [into production], Jurassic World, in July…and so I got to see her do it.”

Kirby added, “[I]t was such a wonderful moment because the industry had to shut down and cinemas are closed; to see the films that are getting back up and running and people being able to work was a really beautiful thing.”

Pieces of a Woman is reportedly on track for Oscar recognition, although Kirby’s co-star Shia LaBeouf was apparently deleted from Netflix’s awards consideration page following a lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs that accused him of abuse.

In response, he released a statement to the New York Times in which he apologized for his past behavior, blaming his addiction issues. He said in part, “Although many of these allegations are not true, I am not in the position to defend any of my actions.”
