Russell Dickerson celebrates eighth anniversary of proposing to his wife with romantic “Home Sweet” video

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/Image Group LAIt’s been exactly eight years since Russell Dickerson popped the question to his now-wife, Kailey. In the years that elapsed, Kailey’s been the inspiration for hit love songs like “Yours” and “Blue Tacoma,” and she’s been an active participant in the singer’s career, too, directing the music videos for both those songs.

Kailey has perhaps an even more important role in the music video for Russell’s “Home Sweet,” which dropped on Wednesday in celebration of the couple’s eighth anniversary of getting engaged.

Home video footage of the proposal kicks off the clip, followed by a sweet montage of the couple’s life together through the years. We see all the special moments, including highlights from their wedding day, the day they purchased their first home together and most recently, their experience of welcoming their first child, Remington.

“Home Sweet” comes off of Russell’s sophomore album, Southern Symphony, which arrived in December. It follows “Love You Like I Used To,” which topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart for two weeks straight in November.

No Comments Entertainment News

NBCUniversal Media/HFPA(LOS ANGELES) — The nominations for the 2021 Golden Globes are in and stars are sharing their excitement over earning recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The David Fincher-directed drama, Mank, and another Netflix property, The Crown, came out on top, earning six nods, while Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and the Emmy-sweeping comedy Schitt’s Creek followed closely behind with five nominations each.

Morgan Wallen’s record label suspends his contract “indefinitely” due to racial slurs

No Comments Country Music News

ABCNashville’s Big Loud label, which releases Morgan Wallen’s music in conjunction with Republic Records, has suspended the singer’s contract indefinitely, according to a social media statement posted on Wednesday morning.

The decision comes “in wake of recent events,” according to the statement. Morgan came under fire when video footage obtained by TMZ Tuesday night showed him shouting the N-word and other racial slurs while partying.

The singer subsequently apologized in a statement issued to ABC News. “There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better,” Wallen said.

Meanwhile, many others in the country community, including Mickey Guyton and Maren Morris, began to call for the genre to hold Morgan accountable for his behavior.

Also on Wednesday, CMT announced via Facebook that they are “in the process of removing his appearances from all of our platforms,” adding that the singer’s words and actions “are in direct opposition to our core values that celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Big Loud’s Wednesday morning statement also said that Republic Records is in agreement with their decision to suspend Morgan’s contract. “Republic Records fully supports Big Loud’s decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated,” the statement added.

Several national radio ownership groups have also removed Wallen’s music from their stations’ playlists in response to the incident.

Reps for the singer had no additional comment as of Wednesday morning.

John Travolta teams with Martha Stewart, Leslie David Baker and more for new Super Bowl commercial

No Comments Entertainment News

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company(LOS ANGELES) — Scotts Miracle-Gro is pulling all the stops for this year’s Super Bowl commercial.  The lawn care company has called upon the likes of John Travolta, Martha Stewart, Leslie David Baker and many others to make a big statement during the Big Game.

The 45-second spot advertises the company’s “The Dream Lawn and Garden Giveaway,” where one lucky person will win exactly that.

In order to demonstrate what a dream lawn or garden will look like, they tapped on some of Hollywood’s finest to show off theirs.

For Martha, obviously, she touts her impressive garden that’s full of fresh-off-the-vine tomatoes and basil before teasing with a wink that no one will ever make a garden “better than mine.”

The commercial also highlights NASCAR star Kyle Busch, who drives a souped-up yellow tractor that, unfortunately, can only turn left, and fitness instructor Emma Lovewell, who has enough space to work her core.

For Baker, The Office star simply wants to grill in peace — away from The Mandalorian star Carl Weathers who is practicing his golf game.

Travolta taps his daughter Ella for his part, which celebrates father-daughter bonding.

Ella tries to gently coach her dad on how to make a viral dance video as the Grease star hilariously tries to work a camera.  The two begin busting some serious moves to Surface’s “Sunday Best,” with Travolta getting a little too carried away.

The camera then pans to a grinning Martha watching from her garden, who marvels, “He’s still got it!”  Meanwhile, Baker snaps from the grill, “Hey, Travoltas, don’t go Tickedy-tockin’ on my grass!”

The Super Bowl airs this Sunday, February 7, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Golden Globes 2021 — Snubs and surprises

No Comments Entertainment News

Courtesy of Netflix(LOS ANGELES) — As is the case every year, there were “sure things” when it came to the 2021 Golden Globe nominations, as well as some surprises and some head-scratchers.

Among the biggest stand-outs of the left-outs was Malcolm & Marie. The film had been on the awards show short list since critics first started screening the movie, which earned accolades for its two leads Zendaya and John David Washington. But neither the two stars, nor the film, which was filmed during the pandemic lockdowns, were recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), though its home, Netflix, dominated this year’s nominations.

Similarly, Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday morning, despite a National Society of Film Critics Best Actor award for Delroy Lindo and a posthumous Supporting Actor win for Chadwick Boseman.  The film also won Best Film and Best Director from the National Board of Review for Lee.

Other snubs of note included Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett, who were blanked in the acting categories for HBO’s Lovecraft Country, despite their series earning a Best Drama Series nomination.

Nine-time Golden Globe winner Meryl Streep was blanked for her work in Let Them All Talk, as well as the musical The Prom, which earned a nomination for James Corden, as well as a Best Motion Picture nomination in the musical or comedy category.

Also missing from the HFPA’s nominations list was Shonda Rhimes’ massive Netflix hit Bridgerton and its lauded cast.

This year’s nominations list managed to shatter a glass ceiling, however, with three females nominated as best director: Regina King for One Night In Miami, Chloe Zhao for her film Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell for helming Promising Young Woman; all three films were also nominated in other categories. The last female director nominated for a Golden Globe was Ava DuVernay, for Selma in 2015.

The Tony and Grammy-winning musical Hamilton was nominated for a Best Film Golden Globe trophy in the musical or comedy category, some six years after its Broadway debut.  The nominated film is a filmed version of a 2016 stage performance, which aired over last summer on Disney+. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated in the acting category, while his award-winning on-stage counterpart Leslie Odom Jr. was not.

Hosted again by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler — Tina will host from the Rainbow Room in New York City, and Poehler from the Globes’ home, The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles — the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live from on NBC Sunday, Feb. 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
