Kane Brown wraps his arms around a "Worldwide Beautiful" future for country music

No Comments Country Music News

RCA As the country music industry makes strides toward being more inclusive, “Worldwide Beautiful” hitmaker Kane Brown couldn’t be more pleased.

The struggle reminds the Chattanooga, Tennessee-native of his teen days when he worked to make country converts of his friends.

“Country music’s such a broad scene,” Kane reflects. “Once I got to high school, because I went to so many, you know, there were some of them that I would put country music on and they’d be like, ‘Aw, man, come on.'”

“But then I’d have that other friend that would get in the car,” he continues, “and they would put country music on. And I was like, ‘Heck yeah!’ You know, it’s something that your friend groups don’t listen to all the time, but you gotta love it.”

“My friend groups that didn’t listen to it at the time, I pulled them into it now,” he adds. “So they’re learning about all these different artists.”

Though there’s still work to do, Kane’s pleased that the number of Black artists finding success is on the rise.

“It’s just great the way that country music is being so diverse right now,” he says, “especially me and Darius Rucker and Jimmie Allen and Mickey Guyton. And, you know, I mean, there’s Black artists coming in and trying to be a part of the country genre, which I think is awesome.”

“It’s different, but it’s cool. I mean, I’m different, so it’s awesome just to see it, you know,” he smiles.

Kane’s own “Worship You” is now climbing the chart alongside “Famous Friends,” his duet with Chris Young.

Kane vies for Album of the Year for Mixtape, Vol. 1 and Video for “Worldwide Beautiful” at the ACM Awards, where he’s also set to perform.  The show airs live Sunday April 18 at 8PM ET on CBS.

Sharon Osbourne insists she apologized to Sheryl Underwood following "The Talk" controversy

No Comments Entertainment News

Monty Brinton/CBS (LOS ANGELES) — Sheryl Underwood says she hasn’t spoken to Sharon Osbourne since the two engaged in a heated argument on The Talk last month, which forced the show to go on indefinite hiatus.  However, Osbourne — who walked away from her hosting gig — claims otherwise.

Speaking in a three-part series documenting the fallout on her podcast, Sheryl Underwood Radio, the media star dismissed Osbourne’s claims that she apologized for their contentious on-air argument on March 10 regarding the “racist” comments Piers Morgan directed at Meghan Markle.

During the three-part special titled “Sharon Walks Away,” the TV personality said she has received only radio silence from Osbourne and even brought out her phone to show there have been no new messages sent.

Osbourne countered Underwood’s claims on Tuesday and shared several time stamped screen grabs of the alleged apology texts with Daily Mail

The first message reads, “Sheryl, My heart is heavy and I’m deeply saddened by the events that transpired on Wednesday.  I don’t want to lose my true friend over this.”

The British personality sent two additional messages after not receiving a response.

In addition to the messages she sent her former co-host, dated March 12, 15 and 18, Osbourne adds, “I not only sent these messages to Sheryl but I apologized to her in person in her dressing room.”

The 68-year-old also had some questions for her former co-host, telling Daily Mail, “What are you trying to do to me? Why are you trying to destroy my reputation? Just be honest. Tell me.”

Underwood has not reacted to Osbourne’s claims, but during her podcast, says she still has love for Osbourne, but that, “I’m very disappointed. And I’m just trying to navigate my feelings about that because it was a trauma.”

1-year-old shot in head during apparent road rage incident in Chicago, police say

(CHICAGO) — A 1-year-old is in grave condition after he was shot in the head during an apparent road rage incident in Chicago, officials said.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. local time Tuesday on Lake Shore Drive, police said.

Shots were fired for approximately two blocks along the expressway, during which a nearly 2-year-old child was struck in the head, Cmdr. Jake Alderden of the Chicago Police Department’s 1st District told reporters during a press briefing a few hours after the incident. Multiple shell casing were recovered across those two blocks, he said.

The drivers appear to be “completely unknown to each other,” Alderden said.

“There was a dispute possibly over somebody not letting somebody into a lane of traffic,” he said.

The vehicle carrying the child continued driving before crashing shortly after on Lake Shore Drive.

A good Samaritan took the toddler and other occupants of the car to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. From there, he was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he was in critical condition, Alderden said.

Police recovered a handgun from the crashed car and are determining if it was fired during the incident, the commander said.

The police district plans to release a description of the car involved in the incident, Alderden said.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said that detectives have a suspect and are “actively pursuing the other car.”

“Obviously any time anyone is shot in Chicago it is tragic, particularly when it is a child,” the mayor said during a press briefing Tuesday afternoon. “This was simple, but stupid, road rage.”

The victim was receiving full critical care support, including the use of a ventilator, in the pediatric intensive care unit, Lurie Children’s Hospital officials said Tuesday afternoon.

“He is in grave condition,” Associate Chief Medical Officer Dr. Marcelo Malakooti told reporters during a press briefing outside the hospital. “It’s a very serious bullet injury.”

The child was believed to have suffered one bullet wound and sustained a brain injury, Malakooti said.

“It’s a very tenuous situation,” he said. “It can change hourly for us.”

Ja’Mal Green, a Chicago community activist, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.

“This should not be our reality,” Green, who is the father of a 2-year-old, said at a media event Tuesday. “We have to bring this horrible person to justice.”

Take a look, he could get booked: Who is LeVar Burton for new 'Jeopardy!' host?

No Comments Entertainment News

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — LeVar Burton is making it clear that he’s ready to step in as the new host of Jeopardy!

After fans created a change.org petition to have Burton take the Jeopardy! reins following the passing of long-time host Alex Trebek, the Reading Rainbow vet says he’s officially up for the challenge.

“Leaving this here in the event that the powers that be are listening,” Burton wrote, tweeting the link to the petition, which has received over 140,000 online signatures so far.

The petition notes that Burton has plenty of experience, including hosting Reading Rainbow for more than two decades. It also highlights Burton as an accomplished actor with credits like Star Trek: The Next Generation “and the ever important mini-series Roots.”

“Even if nothing comes from it, I can’t tell how much how I appreciate all y’alls love and support!” Burton had tweeted in November 2020, after the petition was first made. Now, with 100,000 more signatures, and plenty of online support, there’s a real chance that Burton could become the next host.

“While no one will ever be able to replace Alex, LeVar should be the one to carry the torch,” tweeted a fan on Tuesday. “He was a staple in many childhoods, encouraging young people to read, and explore this world. No one else comes close.”

“There isn’t a more likable guy in the business,” shared another.
