Spring-like weather from Denver to NYC as strong storm hits West with snow

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBy MAX GOLEMBO, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — Spring-like weather is on the way for millions of people from Denver to New York City on Tuesday.

The latest hit of snow that moved through the Northeast Monday is long gone, but not before leaving up to 10 inches of snow in upstate New York.

There was a general swath of heavy wet snow measuring 3 to 6 inches from West Virginia to Vermont and this snow made roads slick causing several spinouts and accidents in the Northeast.

Now, the warm up is on the way with temperatures this mild not seen in months.

On Monday, the Twin Cities in Minnesota reached 41 degrees, the warmest temperature there since before Christmas.

Elsewhere, Kansas City, Missouri surged to 60 degrees, the warmest temperature in the city since the middle of January, and Chicago hit 40 degrees, their warmest temperature since Jan. 14.

Some areas on Tuesday will warm even more and it will feel like the middle of Spring, not February.

Dallas, Texas, was hit so hard with cold and snow last week but it should be near 80 degrees Tuesday.

Even 50-degree temperatures are expected in the Dakotas and near 50 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Some of that spring-like warmth will move into the Northeast with temperatures reaching the 60s in Washington, D.C. and near 50 for New York City and Boston by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a couple of storms are moving into the Pacific Northwest with heavy snow, flooding rain and damaging winds.

On Monday, due to several snow slides and avalanche danger, several main mountain passes have been shut down in Washington.

Some of these storm systems will move into the Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes Tuesday with snow expected.

On Tuesday, 12 states are on alert from Washington to Michigan for snow, avalanche danger, high winds, flooding and there is even a blizzard warning in Montana.

Snowfall totals will be measured in feet for the Cascades and northern Rockies where locally 3 feet could be possible through Wednesday.

Lighter snowfall totals are expected in the northern Plains and the Great Lakes as well where locally 2 to 6 inches could be possible from the Dakotas to Michigan.

And Just Like That… Chris Noth hints Mr. Big could be heading to the 'Sex and the City' reboot

No Comments Entertainment News

Marcel Thomas/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — Chris Noth, who played Mr. Big in Sex and the City, has broken his silence about the rumors claiming he will not be a part of the series reboot, And Just Like That.

Mr. Big played the sexy yet controversial boyfriend and eventual husband of main character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, throughout the HBO series’ six season run.

While fans mourned over a possible future without Mr. Big, Noth took to social media to suggest everything one reads on the internet may not always be true.

The 66-year-old actor originally had shared a photo of a red fox in his backyard, but his followers hijacked the Instagram post to ask him about And Just Like That.

Noth first replied to a fan questioning, “Why for heaven’s sake you are not playing my beloved Mr Big??”

“Everything changes—including announcements in the rags,” he cryptically replied.

A second fan begged the Golden Globe nominee to “reconsider” being a part of the SATC reboot, to which he winked, “well if page six says it… it must be true.”

While Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have all confirmed they will be returning for the reboot as Carrie, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York, respectively, Noth has yet to commit to the HBO revival.

However, with these two recent comments, the Equalizer star has reignited hope that Carrie’s love life is saved.

As for other series’ stars who will not be returning for the reboot, Kim Catrall, who played the salacious Samantha Jones, confirmed she will not be a part of And Just Like That.

It has also been rumored, but not confirmed, that David Eigenberg, who played Miranda’s partner on the show, will not appear on the reboot, either.

SATC ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004.

Matt James breaks silence on 'Bachelor' controversy: "It has been devastating and heartbreaking"

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Billy Kidd(LOS ANGELES) — The Bachelor star Matt James has broken his silence regarding the controversy regarding finalist Rachael Kirkconnell, longtime host Chris Harrison and former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.

“The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging of my life,” James admitted in a statement to Instagram Monday.

“While there are several episodes left of the season, it is important that I take the time to address the troubling information that has come to light since we wrapped filming,” the television personality furthered, “Including the incredibly disappointing photos of Rachael Kirkconnell and the interview between Rachel Lindsay and Chris Harrison.”

James, who is the first Black lead in Bachelor history, continued, “The reality is that I’m learning about these situations in real-time, and it has been devastating and heartbreaking, to put it bluntly.”

He continued, “Chris’s [sic] failure to receive and understand the emotional labor that my friend Rachel Lindsay was taking on by graciously and patiently explaining the racist history of the Antebellum South, a painful history that every American should understand intimately, was troubling and painful to watch.”

“It was a clear reflection of a much larger issue that The Bachelor franchise has fallen short on addressing adequately for years,” the 29-year-old remarked.

James said some good has come from the controversy, such as sparking “critical conversations” and uniting Bachelor Nation in solidarity.

“It has also pushed me to reevaluate and process what my experience on The Bachelor represents,” he added.

While James says he will continue to “process this experience,” he hopes the franchise will move forward in a positive direction, closing out with, “My greatest prayer is that this is an inflection point that results in real and institutional change for the better.”

The Bachelor airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Representative urges 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics boycott in letter to Biden

(WASHINGTON) — The ranking member on the Homeland Security Committee on Monday urged President Joe Biden to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

In a letter sent to Biden and obtained by ABC News, Republican New York Rep. John Katko cited suspected human rights violations against the Uighurs by the Chinese government.

“The actions taken by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are antithetical to the values of both the United States and its allies around the world,” Katko wrote in the letter. “Participation in an Olympics held in a country who is openly committing genocide not only undermines those shared values but casts a shadow on the promise for all those who seek free and just societies.”

A report released in January alleged China deployed a mass sterilization campaign against Muslim ethnic minorities in the country’s western provinces. China has denied the claims of forced mass sterilization.

Katko also said Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the “severity” of the situation in China earlier this year.

China’s treatment of Uighurs — the Muslim ethnic group that has historically lived in China’s westernmost province, known as Xinjiang — has come under increased scrutiny in the last couple years, as the Chinese government ramped up what it casts as a “re-education” campaign that uses mass detention camps.

China’s tactics, the January report outlined, could be genocide.

“Mr. President, the evidence is clear — the CCP is deliberately and systematically working to eliminate an entire population within its own borders,” Katko wrote in the letter.

He said China “expects” the rest of the world to be silent while it carries out these alleged actions and urged Biden to join with other nations in boycotting the winter games.

“The United States simply cannot in good faith participate in an Olympic Games in a country that is committing genocide and continuously attempts to manipulate and lie to the global community about such atrocities,” he wrote.

The games are set to begin Feb. 4, 2022.
