(BOSTON) — Elementary school students in Massachusetts may return to in-person learning five days a week by April, education officials said Tuesday.

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley announced Tuesday morning that he plans to ask for the authority to reverse pandemic education changes in March.

“At some point as health metrics continue to improve, we will need to take hybrid and remote learning models off the table and return to a traditional school format,” he said.

Riley said he will ask for the authority to determine when hybrid and remote school models will no longer count for learning hours.

He plans to take a phased approach by bringing back elementary students first by April and then extend to middle and high schoolers returning by the end of the school year.

Parents will have the option to have their kids work remotely through the end of the year, Riley said, and districts that need to take a more gradual approach can apply for waivers to start out with a hybrid model if they are currently fully remote.

Most public schools in the state have offered blended remote and in-person learning, and 23% were fully remote as of December, according to Massachusetts Live.

In his decision, Riley cited that COVID-19 cases have declined in the state, the vaccine rollout is well underway, the availability of pool testing for school districts and upcoming spring weather.

He also noted that medical experts state children are less likely to contract and transmit COVID-19, and younger students are easy to cohort.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said in a press conference Tuesday he supports the move to open up schools.

“With COVID cases and hospitalizations continuing to decline and vaccines well underway, it is time to set our sights on eliminating remote learning by April, starting with elementary schools,” Baker said.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 540,794 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state and 15,534 confirmed and 319 probable deaths from the virus, according to the state’s department of public health.

'Spider-Man' star Tom Holland desperate not to spoil 'WandaVision' for himself

No Comments Entertainment News

Marvel Studios(NEW YORK) — Count Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, as one of the millions of people just hanging on — pardon pun — to see what happens week to week on WandaVision

In an interview with Collider, Holland says he’s “obsessed” with the Disney+ show.

“It’s so difficult because obviously I’m on a Marvel set at the moment,” he says of a third Spider-Man film. “So all of the producers are there, and I could just go up to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and be like, ‘So what happens? What’s going on?’ It’s really difficult for me to not ask the questions I want the answers to, but I’m loving it.”

Holland adds, “And I think, honestly, it’s for me, my favorite Marvel thing I’ve seen, because it really makes you think about ‘What am I watching? What’s going to happen? Where are they going to take this?'”

And in a day and age when people binge full seasons at a time, Disney+ and Marvel Studios decided to mete them out once a week, something Holland also “loves.”

The actor says, “I think it requires the caliber and the quality of the show to be better because you need to keep people engaged for a longer period of time.”

A new episode of WandaVision drops on Friday.

Holland will next be seen in the drama film Cherry, which was a reunion with his Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The film opens in limited release in theaters on February 26, and March 12 on Apple TV+.

Daniel Kaluuya says he "wasn't invited" to the world premiere of 'Get Out'

No Comments Entertainment News

Samir Hussein/WireImage(LONDON) — Although his performance in the movie shot him to stardom — and earned him an Oscar nomination — Daniel Kaluuya says he wasn’t even invited to the world premiere of Get Out back in 2017.

During a virtual appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the actor was asked to set the record straight about why he wasn’t in attendance at the event, at the Sundance Film Festival.

“That can’t be true!” Graham shouted.

“No, they didn’t invite me, bro,” the actor replied. “They didn’t invite me.”

He explained between laughs, “I was in Atlanta because I was shooting [Black] Panther… And I cleared my schedule and I was like, ‘Yo, I really wanna do it.’ And then just didn’t get an invite.”

“So I was just in my bed when somebody texts me, ‘Oh, it’s done really well,'” Kaluuya added, laughing sarcastically. “I’m like, ‘Alright, that’s cool. That’s alright.'”

“That’s the industry, Graham!” he laughed.

Made on a shoestring budget of just over $4 million, Get Out went on to earn more than $255 million at the box office, and earn an Oscar nomination for Daniel, and a Best Director and a Best Picture nom — as well as a win in the Best Screenplay category — for writer-director Jordan Peele.

Speaking of, there’s no bad blood between the two: Kaluuya is apparently set to re-team with Peele in a new thriller project set to debut in the summer of 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Incidentally, Kaluuya also mentioned that “the streets are saying” that Black Panther 2 is happening. The actor, who played W’Kabi, added of the “incredible,” late Chadwick Boseman, “We’re gonna have to honor him,” “Give as much to his legacy as he gave to us. Because he gave us everything.”

Tim McGraw offers fatherly wisdom to Garrett Hedlund: "You never stop learning"

No Comments Country Music News

Don Arnold/WireImageAfter actor Garrett Hedlund revealed last week that Tim McGraw is the godfather of his and Emma Roberts‘ son Rhodes Robert, the two actors joined together for a conversation about fatherhood via Leo Edit.

In the expansive conversation, Tim reflects on the shock and awe that he and wife Faith Hill felt becoming first time parents to eldest daughter Gracie in 1997.

“When we were taking her home, we couldn’t believe they were letting us take this baby home. We didn’t know what we were doing. I can’t believe they let us put her in the car with us and bring her home,” Tim recalls.

The “Humble and Kind” singer also imparted some wisdom onto the new dad, who inquired if life milestones such as a first step or first word ever get old, with Tim noting that a child’s life is full of firsts that you get to experience with them as a parent.

“All those firsts are always going to be there, and you have to prepare yourself for those things. Always be prepared for an opportunity. All those things connect. It goes back to always learning. You never stop learning. You teach your kids that, and that is something that is very important,” he explains. “Here is what you can want for your kids. You hope for the rest of their life that they will always have the opportunity to take a first step on a great adventure.”

Tim and Garrett met on the set of the 2004 film Friday Night Lights where Tim portrayed Charles Billingsley, the father to Garrett’s character, Don Billingsley. The two also starred in Country Strong and Garrett appeared in the video for Tim’s 2012 hit single, “Truck Yeah.”

Matthew BerinatoKane Brown‘s daughter may have the best laugh ever.

Kane’s wife Katelyn recently shared a video on Instagram that shows how the couple has been keeping their one-year-old daughter Kingsley entertained.

Setting up shop in the playroom with toys all around, Kane playfully falls to the ground, much to his daughter’s amusement. Each time the country star drops a plush orange ball on the floor and pretends to topple over, it sends the infant into a fit of giggles so cute you can’t help but smile along with her.

“Nothing is funnier than daddy pretending to fall,” Katelyn captions the adorable clip. “One of the sweetest sounds in the world,” one fan replied, while another shares, “Love this!!! I was having a bad day and when I heard this precious laugh all I could do was smile. Thanks for sharing.”

Kane and Katelyn welcomed Kingsley in October 2019. She also makes an appearance in her dad’s music videos for “Worldwide Beautiful” and his current single “Worship You.”
