Gary Oldman reflects on 24 years of sobriety: "I used to sweat vodka"

No Comments Entertainment News

Oldman on the set of “Mank” – Nikolai Loveikis/NETFLIX(LOS ANGELES) — In a candid interview with The Los Angeles Times, Gary Oldman looked back on his struggle with alcoholism and revealed he is nearly 24-years sober.

Oldman, who stars in the Golden Globe-nominated Mank, said his struggle with sobriety helped him better understand his character in the film.  The actor plays screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, famous for penning Citizen Kane.

“How do you make this guy likable and not this grump, snarky drunk? That was the challenge,” he noted. “You can’t just load a character up with all the best quips. You have to understand why people are frustrated with him.”

“Herman, with that self-effacing humor, he was at lunch, drinking with a friend, who said, ‘Why don’t you go home sober for once?’ And he answered, ‘What? And have [my wife] throw me out as an impostor?’ I did the same thing,” the 62-year-old British actor admitted.

Reflecting on being a “functioning alcoholic,” Oldman confessed that “beneath the denial” he felt he was “getting away with” his drinking because of his career.

“I would sit down and tell the waiter, ‘I’ll have a large vodka tonic. And can you bring it now because I’m an alcoholic. I need it quicker,'” Oldman furthered.

“People romanticize it, and even I romanticized it.  All my heroes were drinkers or opium addicts,” the Oscar winner confessed, before detailing the downside of being a heavy drinker.

“I used to sweat vodka,” said Oldman. “It becomes such a part of you. My tongue would be black in the morning. I blamed it on the shampoo.”

Looking back at his addiction and his two stints in rehab, the actor expressed he “wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, to be in the grip of it. It’s hell.”

Kristen Bell shows off her dance moves to celebrate returning to work

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Nicole Wilder(LOS ANGELES) — Kristen Bell is so happy she was able to go back to work, she shared a hilarious video of her banging out some not-so-professional dance moves.

“An actor prepares,” Bell captioned the celebratory video before declaring, “Can you tell I’m happy to be back at work??”

The video shows the 40-year-old actress grooving to Andy Mineo’s “Coming in Hot.”  Bell, dressed in cozy-looking pajamas and slippers, appears to be dancing inside a trailer.

As for her dancing skills, they appear to be on par with her husband Dax Shepard’s, who busted some moves of his own to embarrass one of their young daughters.

Bell’s dancing is a little more wild, as she shakes her leg and spins — and even grabs a coffee mug and starts drinking while flailing away to the music.

The Frozen 2 star also revealed what she has been brought on set to film, revealing with a hashtag that her Netflix series Woman in the House has finally started production.

As previously reported, the incoming limited series also stars Tom Riley, Mary Holland, Shelley Hennig, Christina Anthony and Samsara Yett.  It has been green-lit for eight episodes and will follow Bell’s character who is grappling with a heartbreak and spends her days drinking wine while staring out a window — that is, until she believes she witnesses a murder, reports Deadline.

It is currently unknown when the series will hit the streamer.

Thomas Rhett shares cryptic social media tease hinting at something big coming on Friday

No Comments Country Music News

ABC/Image Group LAIt seems that Thomas Rhett’s got something new up his sleeve, but he’s not sharing many details…yet.

The singer took to social media this week to share the cryptic image of a sepia-toned square, with “March 5” written and underlined in the middle. Thomas didn’t explain the meaning behind the date, except to say in the caption, “That’s a Friday, y’all.”

He also linked to his website, where fans can find a countdown clock which counts down to — you guessed it — midnight on this Friday, March 5.

Though there’s no telling for sure what exactly Thomas is planning for Friday, fans were quick to speculate in the comments section, and many are hoping for new music. Either a new single or a new album from the singer is certainly plausible: He hasn’t released a new album since May of 2019, when his fourth project, Center Point Road, arrived.

Plus, the “Beer Can’t Fix” star has been sharing new music lately. His latest single, “What’s Your Country Song,” is the lead single from an as-yet-unannounced new album; that song is currently a Top 5 hit at country radio.

After posting "mi vida" family pic, Alec Baldwin goes off on trolls

No Comments Entertainment News

Walt Disney Television/Yolanda Perez(NEW YORK) — (NOTE LANGUAGE) While his wife Hilaria Baldwin had the foresight to turn the comments off on the Instagram post she used to debut her family’s new addition, Alec Baldwin did not, and it didn’t go well.

The fact that Baldwin captioned the picture “mi vida” — particularly after his wife’s Spanish heritage flap — certainly didn’t help.

Baldwin apparently went off on some commenters who wanted info about the family’s new bundle of joy, who appeared just six months after the couple welcomed their fifth child, Eduardo.

What followed was a flood of negative comments, and lots of cucumber emojis — a reference to his Boston-born wife’s apparently feigned inability to remember the English word for the vegetable.

“CONFUSULATIONS!” one snarked.

“Mi vida? You all really didn’t learn from ‘pretend-gate’ did you,” another noted.

Another posted, “If it was a surrogate just say that. If the baby was adopted just say that…”

The poster added, “If you don’t want to say anything – why don’t you both stop constantly posting and…Just raise your 100 children in private.”

It was later revealed that the new baby’s name is Lucia; a source confirmed to People that she was born via surrogate.

According to E! and other outlets, Baldwin responded with an apparently now-deleted, “you should shut the f— up and mind your own business.”

Baldwin reportedly said of the trolls, “Basically, they’re not very smart. Americans are people who know less about how to live a peaceful, healthy life than most of the civilized world.”

One responded , “Congrats but don’t expect applause at your lecture on civility. You’ve been talking smack for so long, you had to know it would come back at some point.”

Another commenter tried to explain the vitriol by telling Baldwin, “it’s because you’re vague posting…It’s narcissistic. That’s all.”

Rachel Lindsay reacts to fellow 'Bachelor' contestant Taylor Nolan's offensive tweets

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC Press(NEW YORK) — Rachel Lindsay isn’t letting up on her criticism of The Bachelor franchise amid ongoing controversies involving seemingly racist comments.

Lindsay, the first Black Bachelorette, used the latest episode of her Higher Learning podcast, which she co-hosts with Van Lathan, to respond to newly resurfaced tweets from Taylor Nolan, who appeared alongside Lindsay on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor.

The tweets, posted between 2011 and 2012, contained insults aimed at minority groups, along with homophobic and fat-phobic slurs.

Nolan, 27, has since apologized for the tweets in a 30-minute video posted on Instagram, acknowledging they were “wrong and are hurtful.”

Alongside the clip she wrote, “I want to be clear that they don’t take away from the work I do today, they are literally how I got here to doing this work…I never deleted those tweets for a reason because they’ve been a part of my ~journey~ since way before going the bachelor.”

Lindsay, on Tuesday said she was “shocked and disappointed” by the old social media posts, especially given that Nolan has since been “very outspoken about all the inequalities and injustices within the [Bachelor] franchise.”

However, she stressed she has “the same energy with Taylor that I have with anybody who does something that’s wrong.”

“You’re never going to hear me say, ‘Cancel this person. This person is done. I’m done with them,'” she said, referring to her earlier comments about Bachelor host Chris Harrison and current Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell. “What you’ll hear my say is, ‘We have to hold this person accountable.'”

Lindsay also suggested the franchise put The Bachelorette‘s upcoming season on hold until it regroups and brings the show “back to us in a way that we can all enjoy it like we used to.”
