"I was an f-up" Tim Allen opens up on decades old drug arrest

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — (NOTE LANGUAGE) On a recent episode of the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, Last Man Standing star Tim Allen opened up about his troubled youth, which led to a 2-year stint in federal prison on drug charges.

“I was an F-up,” the 67-year-old admitted, telling fellow stand-up vet Maron that his troubles began when he started drinking in his youth, which got worse when his father was killed in a drunk driving accident in Colorado back in 1964.

Allen was 11 at the time.

“After my old man died, I really just played games with people and told adults what they wanted to hear and then stole their booze,” Allen explained.

He likened his younger self to that secret troublemaker on Leave It To Beaver. “Really I was Eddie Haskell: ‘Yes, Mrs. Cleaver. No, Mrs. Cleaver,’ Allen said. “I knew exactly what adults wanted — make your bed, be polite, use a napkin — and then I’d go steal everything in the house.”

Allen was arrested at 23 in 1978, in possession of more than a pound of cocaine in his luggage at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in his native Michigan.

The comic, who is now 23 years sober, said prison reformed him.

“I just shut up and did what I was told. It was the first time ever I did what I was told and played the game. I learned literally how to live day by day. And I learned how to shut up. You definitely want to learn how to shut up.”

Miranda Lambert reveals she wrote 13 as-yet-unheard songs in Marfa, Texas

No Comments Country Music News

ABCMiranda Lambert got fans talking earlier this week when she responded to one follower’s suggestion that it would “save 2021” if she released a Texas red dirt album with a winking smiley face emoji.

In that post the singer also tagged two fellow Texans, Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, who she’s worked with quite a bit in the past: The trio co-wrote Miranda’s 2018 ACM Song of the Year-winning “Tin Man” and, more recently, “Tequila Does.”

After a few more days of dropping hints — posting another cryptic photo, along with the caption, “We don’t know what we’re doing, but we know we’re supposed to be doing it” — Miranda is officially ready to share details.

“Every time I need an escape, I go to Marfa, Texas,” she tweeted on Wednesday. “[Jack Ingram] and [Jon Randall] come. We recharge. We get inspired by its beauty. We write songs. ‘Tin Man’ was the first we shared with you. ‘Tequila Does,’ the second.”

But those two tracks weren’t the last songs to emerge from her musical retreats in Marfa, Miranda continued: “In between, we’ve written 13 more. It’s about time to share them w/ y’all.”

So far, there’s no official word on when fans can expect the new music.

It’s been a busy few weeks for Miranda, who also released a new collaboration with rocker Elle King, “Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” late last month.

Midland share their origin story in a new documentary, complete with a soundtrack of early recordings

No Comments Country Music News

Big Machine RecordsThe country trio known as Midland — made up of Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson — are taking fans behind the scenes of their early days with a new documentary, called Midland: The Sonic Ranch.

In the film, the three performers will share their earliest bonds and what led them to form a band together. It all started when acquaintances Mark and Jess reconnected during Cameron’s wedding, initially bonding over their mutual love of throwback, vintage country. In the midst of an era where “bro country” reigned on the radio, it was a style that seemed to be dying out.

While it was Mark and Jess who initially decided to book some time together at Sonic Ranch, a studio located in the middle of an operating pecan orchard in Tornillo, Texas, Cameron ultimately tagged along and organically became the third member of the group.

“We weren’t 100% when we walked in the door, beyond Mark and Jess were going to record these songs and see what this sound really was,” Cameron remembers. “By the time we walked out, all three of us knew this was a sound that didn’t exist, and it was a kind of country music we really loved.”

The 12 songs they recorded at Sonic Ranch that day will be released as the soundtrack to the documentary. Before the documentary premieres, the band are previewing the soundtrack with one track, “Cowgirl Blues.”

Midland: The Sonic Ranch will premiere on CMT on March 19. You can pre-order the soundtrack now.

Woo hoo! Fox renews 'The Simpsons' for seasons 33 and 34

No Comments Entertainment News

THE SIMPSONS © 2020 by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.(LOS ANGELES) — Looks like The Simpsons‘ record as the longest-running scripted series in TV history won’t be broken anytime soon: Fox has announced it has renewed the multiple-Emmy-winning series for seasons 33 and 34.

That would bring the series to 757 episodes in 2023.

“We’re planning a lot of big surprises,” quipped show creator Matt Groening in a statement. “Homer will lose a hair, Milhouse will get contact lenses, and Bart will celebrate his tenth birthday for the thirty-third time.”

For his part, Homer Simpson himself was quoted as saying, “Woo Hoo! With any luck the show will soon be older than I am.” Canonically, Homer is and always was, 39 — though technically, his birthdate as glimpsed in an early episode, 05-12-56, would have him approaching 65 by now.

Dana Walden, chairman of entertainment at Walt Disney Television, which acquired 20th Century Fox, celebrated the news by saying, “Original, brilliant, outrageously funny, prophetic … there aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe this genius comedy which continues to entertain viewers of all ages…On behalf of everyone at our studio and the millions of fans of The Simpsons around the world, I want to thank our wonderful partners at Fox for making this a truly great day.”

On Sunday, March 21, the series will turn 700 episodes old, with the episode “Manger Things.”

Disney is the parent company of ABC Audio.
