Acclaimed producer Scott Rudin accused of abusive and "unhinged" conduct by numerous ex-staffers

No Comments Entertainment News

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — Scott Rudin, an EGOT-winner who produced Oscar-winning films such as Lady Bird and No Country for Old Men, has been accused by multiple ex-staffers of physical, mental, racist and sexual abuse.

In a damning Hollywood Reporter story published Wednesday, the piece starts out with ex-staffers recalling a 2012 event when Rudin smashed an Apple computer monitor on one of his assistant’s hands — stating the producer became enraged for not being able to procure a seat on a sold-out flight.

The assistant required immediate medical attention while Rudin, allegedly, called his lawyer.

Andrew Coles, who worked for Rudin at the time, told THR, “There were the guys that were sleeping in the office, the guys whose hair was falling out and were developing ulcers. It was a very intense environment.”

Another staffer, Caroline Rugo, attests she was fired for having Type 1 diabetes but didn’t sue Rudin “because of the fear of being blacklisted.”

Adds Rugo, “Everyone just knows he’s an absolute monster” but excused his behavior because of his success.

Other staffers who have come forward have accused the 62-year-old of fostering a cult-like atmosphere and intimidating employees by throwing and breaking objects around the office. They claim Rudin would retaliate against those who quit, such as removing credits from IMDb pages and sabotaging their careers by emailing false accusations to their new employers.

Since the article’s initial publication, other ex-staffers have spoken out against The Book of Mormon producer, such as Megan Ellison, who worked with Rudin on True Grit.

“This piece barely scratches the surface of Scott Rudin’s abusive, racist, and sexist behavior,” she warned on Twitter. “Similarly to Harvey [Weinstein], too many are afraid to speak out. I support and applaud those who did.”

Regé-Jean Page is "hurt" over reports he was denied DC role because he's Black

No Comments Entertainment News

LIAM DANIEL/NETFLIX(LOS ANGELES) — Bridgerton heartthrob Regé-Jean Page has broken his silence in regards to a bombshell report claiming he was rejected from a potential DC television role because of his race.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British-Zimbabwean actor had auditioned for the role of Superman’s grandfather for the upcoming TV series Krypton, but showrunner Geoff Johns rebuffed the idea because “Superman could not have a Black grandfather.”

When speaking to Johns’ representative, they said the screenwriter was under the impression that fans would have wanted someone who resembled the current Superman, Henry Cavill, but denied the claims about Page.

A day after the report broke, the 31-year-old took to social media to express his disappointment, but did not reference the report directly.

“Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more [to be honest,]” he tweeted Wednesday.

Page maintained that he would not let the report to get the best of him and vowed, “Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.”

Unlike Page, Ray Fisher, a DC actor who played Cyborg in the Justice League film and repeatedly accused Johns and director Joss Whedon of misconduct, also took to Twitter to offer his insight.

“I appreciate Geoff Johns bringing on a crisis team to try to explain away his discriminatory behavior, but his excuses are WEAK,” he said Tuesday. “If Geoff believed fans expected Superman’s grandfather to look like ‘a young Henry Cavill’ — why was he ok with the Zods not resembling Michael Shannon?”

Representatives for both Page and Johns have not provided further comment.

Eric Church unearths 'Heart & Soul' at a fancy restaurant in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Joe Pugliese

Eric Church decided to shake things up when he set out to record the follow-up to 2018’s Desperate Man.

The North Carolina native took a totally revolutionary approach, sequestering producer Jay Joyce and his musicians in the Blue Ridge Mountains of his home state in January of 2020.

But Eric didn’t take them to a studio. Instead, he picked an unexpected location: Artisanal restaurant in Banner Elk, NC. A favorite dining spot for the Chief, he’d long admired the acoustics of the building, which was built out of reclaimed barn wood, he tells Entertainment Weekly

From there, the three-part Heart & Soul started to take shape.

“You know what I found is [that] there’s something about doing something different — that there’s a belief there,” the CMA Entertainer of the Year explains. “Every night we would eat together. Every morning we would be together… The players, the songwriters, they all respected what I was trying to do.”

“I was honest with them,” he continues. “I said ‘Hey, I may bring in a song, this song may suck. But I wrote it today. I’ve not slept. Give me a break.'”

Eric’s honesty paved the way for his team’s dedication.

“I think at some point in time, they committed themselves to what we were trying to do and they gave a hundred and ten percent of that,” he reflects. “They knew, ‘This dude has been up all night. This dude is trying and we’re gonna try, too.'”

“And I think that there’s something to that overall — pulling on the rope the same way — that made the project what it is,” he asserts.

Eric unveils the collection titled Heart on Friday, April 16, followed by the fan-club-exclusive & set the following Tuesday, before wrapping with Soul on the 23rd.

'We will miss you, George': "The Goldbergs" marks George Segal's final appearance with touching tribute to Pops

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC(LOS ANGELES) — The Goldbergs marked the final appearance of George Segal’s Pops character with a touching montage featuring the late actor.

Following Wednesday’s episode, titled “Couple Off,” ABC presented a 45 second video montage, bookended by graphics that read, “DEDICATED TO OUR FRIEND, GEORGE” and “We will miss you, George.”

The clip featured some of Segal’s most memorable moments from the show’s eight seasons — dressed in outrageous get-ups, offering words of wisdom and embracing members of his TV family, including his daughter Beverly, his son-in-law Murray, and his grandchildren — Barry, Erica and Adam — played respectively by Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia and Sean Giambrone.

The episode was shot before the Oscar-nominated actor passed away on March 23 from complications of bypass surgery.
